  • First ride on my Honda NT700V Deauville. Taking it easy and taking my time getting to know the motorcycle on this first ride.

    Thanks for your comment.
    Indeed. I was taking it really careful and slow and gradually getting to know the bike. My previous bike ride was the license exam almost a year before, and this was the first ride on the first bike I've ever owned.
    Being conscious that I'm a "noob" and not an experienced rider, I chose to take it easy and let the traffic behind do whatever it pleased to do. :-)

    After a 38yr break from biking I bought my CBR250R last year and have enjoyed (nearly) every minute. This is the bike I would consider upgrading to. Thanks for the vid

    I do take it very easy for this first ride. It was my first ride for almost a year (previous one was my license practical exam on a quite different bike). This is my first bike and this was my first ride on it. I was very careful and took it easy and slow for this first ride - me being rusty, the bike being alien to me and even a wet surface to ride on.
    My riding skills and confidence in the bike have since improved. :-)
    BTW, ride safe, ride smart, wear all the gear, all the time!!!

    That video made me feel good and warm inside, thanks for sharing! Great choice of music and excellent timing introducing it. What's not to like about winter riding, I do it too :)) Nice looking bike as well!

    Literally one the finest vehicles a real man would never have . .. If you want a goldwing get one. If you wanna go 2k mile a day get a Blackbird. This is just pure compromise. 😊

    I love it! It has plenty of acceleration and fun factor for me (but then again I'm 36 and not 19 hehe), it's got storage space and comfort for longer rides, weather protection, durability, low fuel consumption and everything I want from a bike. It's great!! :-)

    Like you I passed my bike test 30 years ago whilst a driver in the Royal Air Force. Never been on a bike since. Now I am older and with more cash, my thoughts of exploring the Scottish islands by motorcycle grow stronger every day. Just need to be brave and take the plunge!

    First, let me say: "Nice bike." I did a search for this model of bike because I plan to rent one when visiting Europe this summer. Your video gave me a good sense of what it will be like when I ride this model (so thanks). I am a more experienced rider (not by much). I have toured the east coast of Canada (ex: the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia), through Quebec city, Montreal, Toronto, etc.
    Secondly, that was a great piece of accompanying music. Great video! Happy riding!

    Just started again riding bikes after a 32 years hiatus.
    Loving it!
    Right now a Honda VTR 250 is enough but as soon as I get more practice I wil buy for sure a Deauville 700 ABS.
    Good video. Excellent feeling of what this bike ride is.

    It is really good of you to learn the bike's behavior. Taking it easy is always good to start on a bike you don't know all that well. However it looks like you're afraid of riding bikes in general. Like on the straight bit on the bridge you could easily drive a bit faster to get out of the front of he cars that were behind you. If you are that afraid maybe it is better to leave the bike at home and get the car to work.

  • @rufo
    @rufo 11 років тому

    Thanks for your comment. :-) Not really nervous, but maybe a bit rusty and careful not to damage the bike I've saved up for on some stupid showoff maneuver. ;-) It was almost a year since my previous bike ride (license exam), and this is the first bike I've ever owned, so I was very careful. Maybe even over-careful, and my riding skills have improved over the summer to the point where I know the bike and feel much more relaxed on it.

  • @rufo
    @rufo 11 років тому +1

    This was my first ride since passing the driver license test almost a full year earlier, and the first bike I've ever owned, and the first ride on that bike. So I decided to take it very easy and methodically and not mind what the drivers behind might think.
    Besides, I did follow the speed limit most of the time, but Norwegian traffic doesn't tend to do that, and that's their problem, not mine. :-)

  • @rufo
    @rufo 11 років тому +1

    BTW the main downside of being a motorcycle owner i northern Norway is the length of the winter. When spring comes, my riding skills will be a bit rusty again, and I'll do more careful riding and parking lot practicing to stay on top of my game.
    MC riding is only fun when it's as safe as it can possibly be. The thrill is to feel the afternoon sun and smell the forests and enjoying a great ride, not to constantly push the envelope until you finally surpass the limit (and have a very bad day).

    It is easier to get the bike off the mainstand if you do it from aside the bike, onto the sidestand. Your Mainstand will last longer too,

    This is all about protecting yourself no matter what. Many people are disfigured due to slides and wearing a helmet has saved many lives. If you follow the comments regarding this you will find Andras Gaspar responding by saying that protection gear is not necessary. BTW Happy New Year to you too.

    I'm looking at getting one of these bikes... It would be my first bike. How well does it get for MPG? And is the weight an issue for a first bike? Thank you!

    • @Westside7be
      @Westside7be 9 років тому

      the weight is an issue when you're moving the bike whilst you aren't on it. For the rest well, you have to know your bike and the engine's capabilities, but that goes for every bike. The NTV 700 could use a bit more torque, but if you know how she works, it's not a problem. It's my first motorcycle (had only scooters before) and i'm doing just fine. Not a passionate machine but surely on that commutes and does weekend rides very well. And around town, i can still follow some Ducati's ;-)

  • @rufo
    @rufo 11 років тому

    It's an excellent first bike. It's my first bike as well. For a beginners bike, it may be a slighty little bit on the heavy side and a bit tall if you're not a tall rider. I'm 175 cm tall and can almost put both heals on the ground at the same time. But I'm also on the heavy side just as my bike, so I do compress the suspension more than a slim rider would.
    If in doubt, you should try to sit on one in a shop to get a feel for the seat height. Good luck. :-)

    Hi from Athens, I am the owner of the ex Honda Deauville model (NT650V, 2004 year) and I'd like to ask you what camera are you using on your helmet? Is it the Contour1080 or GoPro or a Drift camera? It is very important to know because your footage is actually very nice. I own the ContourHD (720p) but I'm not so much satisfied. Please send a reply and have the best rides with your Deauville.

      I am just trading in a Pan European for a 700 Deauville and have a Versys 650 which I recently past my test on in the Uk
      I wanted different options as retired I intend to tour Ireland next year on the Honda also Scotland
      The Versys is for running around the local area or Sunday stress relieving.
      I returned to two wheels after the recent death of my wife after 48 years.
      Doing the 4 stages of the UK Test which isn't easy prepares you very well.
      Luckily I had a 250 Suzuki when I was 16 on L plates for two years.
      Perfect bike for me safe riding to all.

    Looks like a smaller version of my ST1300, what is the useable tank range?

    • @ctace111
      @ctace111 10 років тому +1

      Tank volume is 19 liters. Depends how aggressive you drive, but on my Deauville with speed like in video above it can go for 350 Km before refueling, but I usually drive fast up to 110 Km/h average speed so need to refuel after passed 230-250 Km and usually takes 17-18 liters to fill it full. Increasing the speed make big difference. Thumb up from me for the video, beautiful landscape. I wonder where it is? It looks like Alaska but it bike would be Hurley Davidson than. I guess it may be someplace in Norway or Sweden.

      Just trading in a beautiful ST 1300 great bike but dead weight too much at 66 years
      The Deauville will suit me fine and is like a mini Pan obviously power is a lot more limited but all the image of the Pan remains
      Strong build quality and beautiful design. I get it next week cannot wait.
      I do have a Versys 650 but keeping that also as mint low mileage. The Honda has 10 K miles but showroom condition.
      Insurance fully comp 300 pound for both which isn't too bad..
      Happy days ahead. It's a bit like downsizing houses sometimes it makes good sense
      Happy biking Gents
