Just noticed this update a few weeks late. Good reaction so far. These have been fun and insightful to watch. About the hobbits and the power of the ring. Remember when they first got to Rivendale and Elrind remarked that the Ring had little effect on Frodo which surprised him. He was there when Isildur took the Ring from Sauron and should have destroyed it then and there, but that brief time Isildur had it, he came under the influence. And also Aragorn talks about how the Nine Black Riders are slaves to the Ring's power. Men are susceptible to the Ring's power. But Frodo is persistent against the influence. He is showing an amazing amount of resistance to it, although Mordor is making it hard for him. Gollum/Smeagol was similar to a hobbit. And even though he fell for the ring fairly quickly, we see that even after a couple hundred years of exposure, there is still a small amount of Smeagol in that Gollum heart. I have an interesting theory that I can't prove but I like to think it did for symmetry's sake. I think that Gollum murdered Frodo's parents. Frodo's parents die in a boating accident which is quite peculiar for hobbits, they avoid anything that has the whiff of adventure to it. So Frodo's parents had a rather odd death. And that would have been after Bilbo has had his adventure and had met Gollum. So Gollum knows your name and rough address, so it could be possible that Gollum wandered into the edges of the Shire looking for that filthy Hobbitt and came across Frodo's family. Like I said, it's only a theory and I can't prove any of it. Bit it is a fun thought experiment. Looking forward to finishing up this great series you've created.

absolutly correct. Smeagol was banished from his tribe (a kind of hobbits). Deagol was his Cousin. Unfortunately, the film deviates significantly from the book when it comes to the encounter with Saruman. Saruman dies much later and much further north-west than in Isengard.
