Looking forward to watching your reaction to the rest of the story. You've been so thoughtful and insightful so far. Also wondering if you've seen the newer Dune films?

Hey! Thank you so much for your adorable comment 🥰 I made a poll for next movie so we'll see which one wins 😁 (And I won the championship first place, I'll share a picture of it when I can in the community tab in my channel 🖤)

Another wonderful reaction... Thanks for sharing the Patreon link again. Much appreciated. I thought grabbing the stuffed animal in preparation for the battle was quite adorable...and it shows your level of commitment is where it should be. Hehe I thought your commentary pacing was great and I understand the "sorry for not talking" during the battle. It gets quite intense. I just saw your comment on your archery championship. Congratulations! Legolas was surely smiling down upon you... Well deserved for a very nice person...

Enjoying your reactions to the series, thank you 🙏.
I read and loved these books as a boy, I never (ever) imagined anyone would be able to bring a story so vast and deep to the screen, Peter Jackson did a truly amazing thing, it's a masterpiece. Even though they inevitably had to remove and change some things, it genuinely does justice to the story and the spirit of the books.
There are so many small touches in the movies that most people will not notice, understandably as so much is happening, that demonstrate how much Peter Jackson loved the story. I know how much you like Boromir's character, you will be moved to know that Aragorn actually puts on Boromir's bracers (arm guards) after he dies defending Merry & Pippen, and he wears and cherishes them from then onwards ❤‍🩹😢. Aragorn had huge respect for Boromir ... "be at peace, son of Gondor".

I always enjoy watching Boromir's backstory unfold. You think he's wrak at first, trying to get the Ring because he misunderstands it. But in this movie you see the real motivation. His father was the weak one wanting the Ring for himself and drawing Boromir into his plans. The tragedy of Boromir is that he knows all this and yet he feels trapped by a sense of duty to his father.
At first his sense of duty to his father gets muddled with his sense of duty to Gondor. At the meeting in Rivendell he blurts out that Gondor has no king and doesn't need one. That is his father talking. But later in Lothlorien he is talking to Aragorn saying how he and Aragorn would ride back and they would proclaim that the lords of Gondor have returned. But his father's mandate comes back at the worst time when he tries to take the Ring from Frodo. The Ring is not attacking Boromir making him weak and it isn't attacking a sense of greed. It is attacking his conflict of duty between his father and what he would do right.
And a cool note on Faramir. He is the brains of the brothers. He is up in the mountains carrying on a guerrilla war against Sauron and pretty effectively. But when Gollum says the hobbits stole his precious, he figures it out pretty quickly. So Faramir, like Aragorn, is well read.
And a funny note on Merry and Pippin. After the battle at Orthanc and they have Saruman bittled up, they come across the foodstore. They first see apples. When Pippin picks up an apple, he looks up. Remember when Aragorn was taking them through the Wilds and Pippin was asking about second breakfast, Aragorn throws an apple from over a bush and hits Pip in the head. Thought it was a nice nod. And no, the weed they smoke is tobacco. That is an old colloquial term for tobacco that Tolkien would have known.
Well done so far. Brace yourself for the last of the story. And I'll be the first to ask it: when it is all over, do you want to see it again? Hmm, you could record your second viewing and call it Second Breakfast 😅

Denithor (Boromir & Faramir's dad) is given more nuance in the books- he believes that it is his destiny to lead Gondor to victory, & that Boromir was to be his "champion". He resents Faramir because his wife died in childbirth, which is why he has always viewed him as a sort of personal weakness. Still not a likeable character, but it's nice to have a little more context for why he's such an a-hole

Finduilas didn’t die in childbirth. She died 4 years after Faramir was born, and there is absolutely no evidence that her death was the cause of Denethor and Faramir’s poor relationship.

the hobbits only smoke regular tabacco 🙂Apart from nicotine, there should be nothing in it. 🙂 This was grown in different varieties in the Shire. Tolkien was a passionate pipe smoker. His books often contain somewhat extensive digressions on this subject. A side note: During and after the Second World War, cigarettes (and tobacco) were almost a means of payment with which something could be bought or exchanged, at least in Germany.

It's a fantasy plant in a fantasy setting. Even if it was inspired by & represents tobacco, it is never stated anywhere that it contains nicotine, only that it has magical mind-altering effects. People argue this point to death but honestly, it doesnt represent tobacco or marijuana any more than hobbits represent real people. Hobbits are hobbits, & pipeweed is just an herb they cultivate to smoke.
