I like to think that Zhongli recognized her as the kid that got bodied during the Archon War, and played along with her request (even if he knew there's no Cocogoat) out of kindness.
While it's possible (even likely) that he did recognize her, I don't think he was intentionally playing along. I think he was so excited to not already know something that he stopped using his critical thinking for a while. Think about it from his perspective; after however many thousands of years, he's finally about to learn something new.
Knowing Qiqi's lore, I think Zhongli is awkward around her because he remembers how she became a zombie but she's always the same, forgetful and pure. Especially when he's trying to pass as someone she's not supposed to know. Only difference is that she honestly don't know him....
I may miss some things so take my intake on her lore with a grain of salt. If I remember correctly, it happened during a time when adepti’s and demons were battling each other. Qiqi who was still mortal and human was a herb picking girl who was in the fields picking herbs until she was in the crossfires of an ongoing battle between the adepti and demons. Qiqi was severely injured and rushed into a nearby cave. In her dying moments she received her cryo vision but the adepti couldn’t let her die through guilt, so each of them (not sure how many were present) gifted her a small amount of their adepti energy to help her. This indeed helped Qiqi but it caused her to go in a berserk-like state causing Mountain Shaper to imprison her in amber. Whether or not if Rex Lapis was present in the tragic event is not known but let head cannons be head cannons

She can only hover so high on solid surfaces. Hence why we found her in the water in the beginning. More dense than water with all that food she ate. Also why we don't have a fishing rod afterwards, she's too fat and it broke.

Zhongli isn't immortal, if you play Azhadha quest, we will know that Morax (as well as other archons) and Azdhaha were not immortal as they will eventually die. Extreme longevity but not eternal.

Its stated that zombies only follow orders from someone else in most cases, and that Qiqi is a unique case where she follows her own. I just realized why. Zombies are usually brought back by someone who wants them for a purpose, therefore are created to obey to fulfill that purpose. But Qiqi was brought back to life as a zombie because the Adepti and demon were remorseful that their fight killed an innocent child. They brought her back so she could live her own life again. That's why she follows her own orders. She wasn't brought back to be a slave, but to live a life where she could live free in a sense. Free from fear, free from death, free from sorrow. Just living a peaceful life by her own rules.... The price for this was her memory. And she had to be imprisoned for a while because the sudden power made her go berserk.
i was reading her background story (i just umlock her friendship lvl 6) and i get to understand what you're saying. her last moment of death was her really wishing to freeze time so she can spend it with her family and friends, but fate is a little too cruel sometimes i guess..they freeze her memory, she remembers nothing, and she has to live justfor herself. that voiceline when she said she wants to be with us (the traveler) forever really is a final stab to the heart haa 🥲

Its stated that zombies only follow orders from someone else in most cases, and that Qiqi is a unique case where she follows her own.
I just realized why.
Zombies are usually brought back by someone who wants them for a purpose, therefore are created to obey to fulfill that purpose. But Qiqi was brought back to life as a zombie because the Adepti and demon were remorseful that their fight killed an innocent child. They brought her back so she could live her own life again. That's why she follows her own orders. She wasn't brought back to be a slave, but to live a life where she could live free in a sense.
Free from fear, free from death, free from sorrow. Just living a peaceful life by her own rules....
The price for this was her memory.
And she had to be imprisoned for a while because the sudden power made her go berserk.
i was reading her background story (i just umlock her friendship lvl 6) and i get to understand what you're saying. her last moment of death was her really wishing to freeze time so she can spend it with her family and friends, but fate is a little too cruel sometimes i guess..they freeze her memory, she remembers nothing, and she has to live justfor herself. that voiceline when she said she wants to be with us (the traveler) forever really is a final stab to the heart haa 🥲

Yeah the eng dub sucks a lot, breaks the game for me. Almost every other dub gives a better immersion in the game, listening to the eng i cant even follow whats going on bcause i'm to busy being angry at how awfull they sound.
