Thailand is truly the real deal when it comes to capturing the hearts of visitors from around the globe. The fact that countless tourists come here and instantly fall in love with its culture, food, and stunning landscapes speaks volumes. It’s no surprise that Thailand consistently ranks as one of the most visited countries in the world, with cities like Bangkok topping the list year after year as undeniable proof of its charm and allure.
Having lived in Bangkok for 5 years and Philippines for 5 years ( with 1 year in Manila), there is no doubt that Bangkok wins EVERY TIME! The only advantage Manila has is the language ( English spoken) but apart from that its a complete shit hole! Bangkok is one of my favourite cities in the world.
The beaches in the Philippines are not that beautiful because the Philippines does not have limestone mountains like in Thailand, which are more diverse. The Andaman Sea in Thailand is also more beautiful and has very clean white sand beaches, without piles of garbage like in the Philippines.
Hey Tom, Oliver here from Switzerland, I totally agree with you. I've been living 4 years in Bangkok (worked there) and I visited Manila once and everything you said is true (poverty, traffic etc..). I worked in East Timor where I met lot's of Filipinos and wanted to see Manila once but yeah, I prefer Thailand. The only nice things about Filipinos is that they speak a better English.
Thailand has a much more sophisticated and refined culture from their ornate temples to their complex food. There's no comparison, it's not only one of the best countries in Asia, but the entire world. No Western country comes close to the level of detail of the Thai culture or natural beauty. In Asia, only Japan compares to Thailand. That being said, Philippines has potential as it has the charm, natural beauty and is beginning to modernize with neighborhoods like BGC. It is the fastest growing country in SE Asia. However, it will take hundreds of years before it gets to the level of Thailand in terms of modernity, infrastructure, cleanliness and safety. Manila immediately strikes you as a poverty stricken place, whereas when you go to Bangkok you feel like you are in a cosmopolitan, safe world capital that the entire world wants to hang out in all the time. It feels like NYC or London in that sense. Manila doesn't have that feel at all yet.
Partly true but everything what lay said is 110% true. Philippine infrastructure, goods and services prices and health care is not in par with Thailand. Thailand in these areas is far superior.

So nice to see a Filipino be objective when analyzing the two countries I understand them loving their countries. We all in both cases love our countries, however, hands-down, Thailand, better, easier to navigate everything, food is fantastic, condominiums as you pointed out cheaper and better quality, transportation, better, Internet, better, not a whole lot of reason to go to the Philippines to live, to visit fantastic but for day-to-day, Thailand wins hands-down

The Philippines has been lagging in everything compared to it’s neighbors for quite a while now. Pretty despondent with the rate the country is progressing, especially nowadays.
Philippines and Vietnam have the highest growth rates of any country in Southeast Asia at 6.7%. It's practically the back office capital of the world at this point. It's not the richest country but it is definitely growing faster than its neighbors.

Hi Tom & Lay,great conversation and although a few don't like you both favoring Bangkok and as l have been to Thailand many times and taken my partner, her opinion and mine is same as yours and over the years the infrastructure has improved where the Philippines is lacking and have a look at Internet and power in fact many hotels in Thailand have emergency generators. Not to mention the Manila Airport ,it certainly dont do any justice to the Philippines.Cheers Guys enjoy 🙏
I agree 100% that Thailand is a better option for most people. I like to visit the Philippines but I will live in Thailand. The food, infrastructure, security, medical, and housing are all better in Thailand.
You never mentioned anything about language barriers. Another great plus about the Philippines is that is where you met your girl. Amazing sweetheart. Lucky you
Now…Thai people English skills is improving a lot especially in Bangkok and young generation. Also new technologies like google translate makes it so easy here too.
The abject poverty in Manila and associated crime is enough to turn many people off, obviously you can hide behind armed security at places like BGC or in upmarket housing Estates but you've got to go out and away from their watchful eyes sooner or later. That's another reason Bangkok is one of the most visited cities in the world and Manila is avoided.
Having been to both, I agree with you pretty much. One thing that I think is better in Philippines is the diving (loads more wrecks) & I still love Boracay above the Thai resorts I have visited. The parks are also superior and feel a lot safer in Bangkok than Manila.
There is no disagreement among people who know both cities and both countries really well. On the other side is just Pinoy pride (see some telling comments here) and expats who are stuck in the Philippines for some reason. The question was already settled decades ago - and the answer is even more glaring today, so much so that it's become an unfair question. One exception though: Cebu mangoes really are best (during the mango season at least). Yes, there are some remote and scarcely populated Philippine islands that are really beautiful, but getting there is not exactly hasslefree. If island adventure is your thing, culture rich Indonesia with its 14'000 islands is the answer. Culture (or the lack thereof) is the sad answer to almost all these comparison questions - far beyond just food or garbage.
It’s a matter of preference and in the end it’s their choice. I understand what Tom and Lay’s point of view cause as a Filipino living abroad for more than 4 decades I could relate to them. We shld respect each others opinion not bash them. Peace out!❤
You’re correct, Thailand is way better than Philippines to me too . I’d rather live in Bkk Thailand than the ph , it’s ok to visit ph but I would prefer Thailand too . Ya Manila is so hard to get around uggg and expensive food too .
I chose Manila because of the bs with visas and tax in Thailand and I feel more welcome here in Philippines as well immigration officials here are more polite too 1 hour to extend visas here. food is better in Bangkok I have a condo here in Makati very nice I pay 25k pesos so is the same as in Bangkok for a nice condo there is 15-20K baht per month best is to cook food home better and cheaper 😊
The tax issue you mentioned is not true. It is a lie. Where did you get the news from? We Thais don't even know about it. And I've seen you comment in many places like this.
Regarding petty theft, Thai people are not at all afraid of Thai people stealing from foreigners, but they must be careful of neighboring countries that come to Thailand illegally to steal things. and foreigners will be mistaken for Thai people Many times people have their phones stolen, and the next day they go to check relocation and go to live in a neighboring country.
Lay should know that Filipinos would rather cook their meals instead of eating out because it is cheaper. Rich people usually patronize the more expensive restaurants here. There are no such things as street foods to cater to people like you in Manila. Your point of comparison with Thailand is only Manila? Consider also other places or islands in the Philippines. As a Filipina, I still love my country and I will choose it over and over again. What you experienced in Manila is not everything in Manila. Likewise, Manila does not represent the whole Philippines. I didnt hear Lay say positive things about her own country in this video.
Many foreigners are living in the province away from Manila and they are comfortable with it. I think you shouldn't zero in to Manila only and already saying Bangkok is great. To Lay, good luck in your relationship with Tom living away from your own family. And also, please be reminded that most of your viewers are from the Philippines because of your past relationship Tom. Good luck too if your Filipino viewers are still gonna stick with you. In fact, your views are already declining compared to the first time you're vlogging with Lay. How much more now that you always say something unfavorable to your own country Lay. Oh by the way, have your teeth fixed first for aesthetic reasons being in social media and vlogging. I hope you listen to my suggestion instead of just brushing it off. It's for your own good as a vlogger. Please, enough of these comparisons between the Philippines and Bangkok because we've been hearing this from you so many times already and it's not nice anymore especially coming from you Lay. One more thing, I think Lay should learn to cook already homemade meals. We respect your decision and move on already. Good luck.
@@kismet8ann 1) Comparing Manila to Bangkok is a logical comparison. If he wanted to compare the province, he would have compared it to somewhere in Isan. 2)Lay's family is only 3hrs away. It takes that long to go anywhere in Manila. 3) Would you rather compare airports? Trash? Brownouts? The thing is people usually give the win to the Philippines when it comes to the people. That is, until they read messages like yours. 4) NOBODY cares what you are sick of. They made an informative video that was honest and factual. You cant argue anything that was said. The fact that you get but hurt by people SAYING the Philippines is dirty and full of trash but not by the FACT that it is dirty and full of trash is mind-numbing. It however explains a lot.
@@kismet8annvery well said. First time traveler kasi si Lay sa Bangkok ,hence she is overwhelmed of what she is experiencing. But Lay, you have not been to other places in the Phil ? Manila ka lang ba? Go around luzon, visayas and mindanao. Convince Tom.. By the way, Lay, what are your future plans? Stable job? Anong sabi ng magulang mo?
Filipinos are consistently friendly and respectful. You make it sound like you were treated badly in the Philippines. Maybe if you were comparing France vs Thailand but not Philippines vs Thailand.
You have to be careful, there are gangs coming in from neighboring countries. Both from Cambodia and Vietnam, the police were able to arrest and release many. As for beggars, 95% in Bangkok come from Cambodia.
Pickpockets gangs most of them from Vietnam and Cambodia news showing polices arrest these junk very often Thailand is tourists destination those bad people love this.
Interesting. One thing I keep hearing about is that in Philippines you’re not going to have as much as language barrier as in Bangkok. Thai people’s English is just not as good right?
True, restaurants will typically understand your order in Bangkok, but tougher to have chats with locals for sure. Not always though, depending on the neighborhood you're in
@@nattapolvvvvddd4289 yes but that's only simple commands, a Filipino can share stories and understand jokes/sarcasm much more widespread even in small towns. Talking about simple topics to Thai people cuts the conversation short after 3 sentences, I like this, I want that, etc. In Tourist areas, there is okay English sometimes
The density of Manila is 43,611 people per square kilometer whilst Bangkok is only 5,300 people per square kilometre. Also, the Greater Manila Area population is 28,250,517 whereas Greater Bangkok Area population is only 11,200,000, so are the 2 Cities comparable ? Not really !!!! Manila is over twice the size !!!!!
That is the population in the civil registration. But the hidden population in Bangkok still double both from other provinces and from neighboring countries, including millions of foreigners living Not counting the 22 million tourists per year in Bangkok.
Metro Manila's problems That is, the amount of roads is not enough. Most of the roads are quite narrow. Roads in some areas are bottlenecks. In addition, there is no public transportation system such as public buses. There's only a jeepney. When running, they often stop to pick up passengers in bottleneck areas. causing heavy traffic jams About 15 years ago, Bangkok metro was the most congested city in the world. But at present it is ranked 45th in the world because it has increased the electric train system, electric buses, built elevated expressways, built new roads, and tried to expand bottlenecks. Including building a multi-level ring road. So that cars passing through Bangkok don't have to get stuck in the city center. Even among Malila authorities, there are runs that should be even on odd days. According to the vehicle registration But I think that's the end of the matter. As a result, people with money will buy more cars. So that he can drive the car every day as before. And Philippine society may be similar to US society in that it favors using cars more than public transportation.
Filipino here and I'd still choose Philippines. People are free to choose where they want to go but seriously you haven't been to Iloilo City yet. That city easily dispels all the bad stereotypes of food and infrastucture in the Philippines.
I agree and not even comparison though. The Philippines or Cambodia I still prefer Cambodia or Laos because of overall environment and the importance thing is both countries are connected with Thailand. Just across borders to Thailand and you are in heaven and it’s very easy that’s why Laos and Cambodia people always go to Thailand on weekend for travel or shopping. Let alone war thorn Myanmar and Vietnam is too crowded and chaotic.
@ Yes.. I would love to live in Vientiane, Laos more than Phnom Penh, Cambodia or BGC makati in Manila due to overall environmentally, life style and its people. Not much modern but it’s enough and comfy. Just cross border to Thailand there you go convenience lifestyle. But the other parts of Laos still like Stone Age.😆
I think , if you can afford travelling as you do, a proper comparison between most affordable locations in Asia would be great, Bangkok/Manila/Saigon/Kuala Lumpur , as, especially now with the more than insane and ridiculous situation in the US, more than ever people will be looking to escape the West and it's, over the past fee years, rapidly evolving negative living circumstances and environment, people are disgusted with where it's all heading and it's not looking promising in any form or way, so a lower cost, often times half or less, with beautiful scenery and culture looks a lot more attractive as a living, and/or retirement option compared to the f'd up West "alternative "...😊
Interesting to hear so many opinions about the differences, not just between the cities themselves but as a visitor versus a working resident and a man and a woman too. Is the pool open now to enjoy 🏊🏻♀️
Manila for me as well once I retire from California. No Thailand I prefer English language plus I want the Filipino food that I’m accustomed to eating. Have to plans to learn another language except learn more Tagalog and my province language Bicol. Plus I have lots of relatives in Manila and Bicol. I wouldn’t mind visiting other Asian countries for vacation.
@ when I came to the US as a child took me a very long time to learn English even with tutors. Had to watch so much movies and tv shows to completely understand and learn English. I’m old now don’t need to learn another language.
Nice discussion topic. Most foreigners choose Thailand as expats living there. I have some friends in Bangkok and they choose Bangkok rather than manila Philippines . Thanks for sharing 🙏 tom 😊
We all know Tom wouldn't live in the Philippines, Thailand he knows well, so not shocked at Lay's choice. You can both still visit family in the Philippines and Ireland. Food good and inexpensive if you choose. Hot street food not served cold like in the Philippines.
english and beaches 7600 + philippines much better and palawan i love Makati and palawan.. in thailand be there many times dont understand english not easy to talk with...
I’ve been to Bangkok and several places in Thailand. A beautiful place and respectful people. Something we could learn here at the West. I was in Vietnam years ago. 1970.-1971. Never wanted to go back
I live in the province off Bohol (Anda) we went on vacation in Phuket a year ago, positive: infra structure, internet, electricity( no bran outs) better food, better hotels, negative, not so friendly people, language,
@ compared to here the prices off restaurants where about 50% higher then here, a good meal at a restaurant in a resort with ocean vieuw is about 450 peso ( no drinks included)

Difference is a higher quality of life for less money in Thailand, I’ve been coming here for 22 years, and have retired here for the last 12 years. I might add you do not get all the typhoons and it doesn’t rain as much.
I 100% agree in regards to the ability (or lack of) to maximise a day in Manila. I’m from New Zealand living in BGC in Manila and I have never felt so isolated. It is so challenging to go out anywhere that you end up going nowhere. It just isn’t worth going to other areas in Manila when you waste so much time getting there and back. It’s also incredibly stressful trying to drive through the chaos in Manila, so even when you do go out it’s just not enjoyable. Having good infrastructure to move around is so important.
@@FunkyChild718 I knew what to expect and I have lived or traveled all around the world including all of ASEAN. I was agreeing with him in regards to him stating the difference between the countries is that due to lack of infrastructure Manila is a challenging place to maximise a day. For me Philippines is like third world, too much trash. skin tax and lack of infrastructure. Im on Hua Hin Thailand, its not Bangkok, but people speak enough English, friendly and great food
I have lived in Manila since 2003 except for 2 times me and my family lived in Bangkok (in fact on the other side of Suhumvit from where you are). Best Mexican food in BKK is walking distance from there. Margarita Storm cor SUK soi 13 and SUK road, Me my Filipina wife and fil-am son lived in both places for many years. Ties: International schools in both countries are really bad and over-priced as well. Medical care: very terrible experience at Makati Med. BKK: Bumrungrad was OK for me and not grate for my then yound son, but not horrible. Food: far better in Thailand on every level. Sorry to say, not even close. Living conditions: Rockwell was great, but missed the mark on a few things. BKK: cheap, nice buildings with full amenities. I love sauna, most condos there have it and steam room and Jacuzzi, I use those things every day. and they are clean. Manila living conditions: rents are much higher and quality is much lower. Plus the furnishings in places other than Rockwell are really bad. For me and my Family - quality of life was just much better in BKK - I drive in Manila and all over the Philippines. I do not drive in Thailand because I don't need to, mass transit has things well covered. We prefer Filipa helper, so we hired those in BKK. Pretty sure they are TNT but there are lots of them and they do a good job. Worst thing about Thailand has been immigrations. Very difficult. But I just got my DVT (Digital Nomad Visa), so it should be much better now. BTW: you can pick up a DTV at the Thai embassy on Roda street in Legaspi Village (Manila). You cannot get one inside of Thailand.
Love your videos! I've lived in the Philippines and am moving back next month. Visited Bangkok and enjoyed so many things about Bangkok over the Philippines. I think I might just try out living in Thailand. I see that my experience was the same as the two of you. Cool
I am not surprised by thai people use of language because they have never been colonized and are very proud of their history, culture and nationalism.

What you wrote is completely incoherent and makes no sense.
Thank you for the beautiful view 💙🤍❤️☘️🇺🇸🧡
Lay should know that Filipinos would rather cook their meals instead of eating out because it is cheaper. Rich people usually patronize the more expensive restaurants here. There are no such things as street foods to cater to people like you in Manila.
Your point of comparison with Thailand is only Manila? Consider also other places or islands in the Philippines. As a Filipina, I still love my country and I will choose it over and over again. What you experienced in Manila is not everything in Manila. Likewise, Manila does not represent the whole Philippines.
I didnt hear Lay say positive things about her own country in this video.
We love Philippines to travel but living has to many difficulties
Good luck.
She's stupid person hahaha maarte
Stable job? Anong sabi ng magulang mo?
was treated with more friendly people in thailand and more respect
Compared to the Philippines yes definitely. I found many Filipinos arrogant for no reason
Filipinos are consistently friendly and respectful. You make it sound like you were treated badly in the Philippines. Maybe if you were comparing France vs Thailand but not Philippines vs Thailand.
I felt safe in Bangkok but I did have my wallet stolen the second night I was there. There are signs warning about pickpockets so be careful.
The pickpockets often foreigner who see opportunity rise when major entertainment event take off
The pickpockets often foreigner who see opportunity rise when major entertainment event take off
I've lived here for 15 years and had no issues anywhere. It's possible you just lost your wallet too.
Interesting. One thing I keep hearing about is that in Philippines you’re not going to have as much as language barrier as in Bangkok. Thai people’s English is just not as good right?
True, restaurants will typically understand your order in Bangkok, but tougher to have chats with locals for sure. Not always though, depending on the neighborhood you're in
Not as good, but good enough
Thai English skills is improving a lot especially in Bangkok. It’s very easy to use google translate as well. Not a big problem now.
It's simply not true that the majority of Filipinos speak English fluently.....they don't.

Good morning Tom & Lay time 7:49 am just woke up 🩷
@@DorothyShioura morning 😃
Thailand, Welcome you. We safe and fun, Peaceful life.
Yeh so should be more convenient in that case
That is the population in the civil registration. But the hidden population in Bangkok still double both from other provinces and from neighboring countries, including millions of foreigners living Not counting the 22 million tourists per year in Bangkok.
Metro Manila's problems That is, the amount of roads is not enough. Most of the roads are quite narrow. Roads in some areas are bottlenecks. In addition, there is no public transportation system such as public buses. There's only a jeepney. When running, they often stop to pick up passengers in bottleneck areas. causing heavy traffic jams
About 15 years ago, Bangkok metro was the most congested city in the world.
Ofw for 24yrs and missing so much Philippines
Nice where you working ?
There's no place like home. 🇵🇭
Filipino here and I'd still choose Philippines. People are free to choose where they want to go but seriously you haven't been to Iloilo City yet. That city easily dispels all the bad stereotypes of food and infrastucture in the Philippines.
Yes it’s on top of our list to go 😃
Even you like Thailand, I would say keep working on the Philippines, contribute their economy. because no other way to get permanent resident here.
Why you always compare the Philippines to Thailand , we hear already your previous vlog .
Watching from canada
I agree and not even comparison though. The Philippines or Cambodia I still prefer Cambodia or Laos because of overall environment and the importance thing is both countries are connected with Thailand. Just across borders to Thailand and you are in heaven and it’s very easy that’s why Laos and Cambodia people always go to Thailand on weekend for travel or shopping. Let alone war thorn Myanmar and Vietnam is too crowded and chaotic.
Laos is very underrated in my opinion class place
There is some medicine that you can only get from a hospital in Thailand the pharmacy doesn’t stock everything
I've been to both MANY times and I couldn't agree with you more on everything you have said. Now I just need to convince my Filipina to move.
Yes 😄😄
It’s so nice to see that lay speaks fluent English
I've lived in manila now for six years and the worst thing is the inferstructure.
But the best thing is most people speak good English
I want to go to Thailand just to learn their language 😂
@TharaLetzISLANDER
I can not learn new languages so i will stay in manila.
Good luck with your travels
Manila for me as well once I retire from California. No Thailand I prefer English language plus I want the Filipino food that I’m accustomed to eating. Have to plans to learn another language except learn more Tagalog and my province language Bicol. Plus I have lots of relatives in Manila and Bicol. I wouldn’t mind visiting other Asian countries for vacation.
@@Airraidcd Many Thais speak English, most just don't want to talk to Americans.
@ when I came to the US as a child took me a very long time to learn English even with tutors. Had to watch so much movies and tv shows to completely understand and learn English. I’m old now don’t need to learn another language.
I say, pray, and ask God to guide both of you. If you ask, He will hear and answer you. God bless you two 🙏 ❤️

Hot street food not served cold like in the Philippines.
great story
Only thing Philippines beats Thailand on is women😅😅😅
And natural resources and English.
english and beaches 7600 + philippines much better and palawan i love Makati and palawan.. in thailand be there many times dont understand english not easy to talk with...
Yup. The ONLY thing !
Nah… Only more Beaches and Islands.

No need to compare Thailand and the Philippines, we all know Thailand is far better than PH😂😂
I’ve been to Bangkok and several places in Thailand. A beautiful place and respectful people. Something we could learn here at the West. I was in Vietnam years ago. 1970.-1971. Never wanted to go back
The West is far too respectful to its detriment. You have a lot to learn.
I live in the province off Bohol (Anda) we went on vacation in Phuket a year ago, positive: infra structure, internet, electricity( no bran outs) better food, better hotels, negative, not so friendly people, language,
Interesting
@ compared to here the prices off restaurants where about 50% higher then here, a good meal at a restaurant in a resort with ocean vieuw is about 450 peso ( no drinks included)
Cool i went scuba diving i anda this year and really enjoyed it.

Difference is a higher quality of life for less money in Thailand, I’ve been coming here for 22 years, and have retired here for the last 12 years. I might add you do not get all the typhoons and it doesn’t rain as much.
True
There's a formally reporting 6typhoons had hit Phillipines just only November and more 23 of it in a year.
chiang mai is nice too not as expencive as bangkok
True
I 100% agree in regards to the ability (or lack of) to maximise a day in Manila. I’m from New Zealand living in BGC in Manila and I have never felt so isolated. It is so challenging to go out anywhere that you end up going nowhere. It just isn’t worth going to other areas in Manila when you waste so much time getting there and back. It’s also incredibly stressful trying to drive through the chaos in Manila, so even when you do go out it’s just not enjoyable. Having good infrastructure to move around is so important.
Thanks for sharing
So true just going from point A to B takes the whole day😂
@@TharaLetzISLANDERU don't tell how long distance A to B.lol
I mean what are you expecting, it's a third world country. If you want all of that, just move to London or NYC - it costs money you know.
@@FunkyChild718 I knew what to expect and I have lived or traveled all around the world including all of ASEAN. I was agreeing with him in regards to him stating the difference between the countries is that due to lack of infrastructure Manila is a challenging place to maximise a day. How about rural areas, beaches when comparing the two countries?
Philippines more beautiful Thailand more connectivity

Haha i want that you correct her every time she says WAY TOO 😅 I'm sure that you understand that means too much Tom 😂😂😂 like the train system is way too nice, so she wants it to be worse 😂😂😂
For me Philippines is like third world, too much trash. skin tax and lack of infrastructure. Im on Hua Hin Thailand, its not Bangkok, but people speak enough English, friendly and great food
And for me you are so much trash idiot
I have lived in Manila since 2003 except for 2 times me and my family lived in Bangkok (in fact on the other side of Suhumvit from where you are).
Best Mexican food in BKK is walking distance from there. Margarita Storm cor SUK soi 13 and SUK road,
Me my Filipina wife and fil-am son lived in both places for many years.
Thanks for sharing your experience.!
