You never mentioned anything about language barriers. Another great plus about the Philippines is that is where you met your girl. Amazing sweetheart. Lucky you
Partly true but everything what lay said is 110% true. Philippine infrastructure, goods and services prices and health care is not in par with Thailand. Thailand in these areas is far superior.
I chose Manila because of the bs with visas and tax in Thailand and I feel more welcome here in Philippines as well immigration officials here are more polite too 1 hour to extend visas here. food is better in Bangkok I have a condo here in Makati very nice I pay 25k pesos so is the same as in Bangkok for a nice condo there is 15-20K baht per month best is to cook food home better and cheaper 😊
Hi Tom & Lay,great conversation and although a few don't like you both favoring Bangkok and as l have been to Thailand many times and taken my partner, her opinion and mine is same as yours and over the years the infrastructure has improved where the Philippines is lacking and have a look at Internet and power in fact many hotels in Thailand have emergency generators. Not to mention the Manila Airport ,it certainly dont do any justice to the Philippines.Cheers Guys enjoy 🙏
So nice to see a Filipino be objective when analyzing the two countries I understand them loving their countries. We all in both cases love our countries, however, hands-down, Thailand, better, easier to navigate everything, food is fantastic, condominiums as you pointed out cheaper and better quality, transportation, better, Internet, better, not a whole lot of reason to go to the Philippines to live, to visit fantastic but for day-to-day, Thailand wins hands-down
Filipino here. They are right. Bangkok is so much more worth it in terms of quality, price and convenience. Had a month stint there and was quite impressed. The Philippines has been lagging in everything compared to it’s neighbors for quite a while now. Pretty despondent with the rate the country is progressing, especially nowadays.
I’ve been to Bangkok and several places in Thailand. A beautiful place and respectful people. Something we could learn here at the West. I was in Vietnam years ago. 1970.-1971. Never wanted to go back
Lay should know that Filipinos would rather cook their meals instead of eating out because it is cheaper. Rich people usually patronize the more expensive restaurants here. There are no such things as street foods to cater to people like you in Manila. Your point of comparison with Thailand is only Manila? Consider also other places or islands in the Philippines. As a Filipina, I still love my country and I will choose it over and over again. What you experienced in Manila is not everything in Manila. Likewise, Manila does not represent the whole Philippines. I didnt hear Lay say positive things about her own country in this video.
Many foreigners are living in the province away from Manila and they are comfortable with it. I think you shouldn't zero in to Manila only and already saying Bangkok is great. To Lay, good luck in your relationship with Tom living away from your own family. And also, please be reminded that most of your viewers are from the Philippines because of your past relationship Tom. Good luck too if your Filipino viewers are still gonna stick with you. In fact, your views are already declining compared to the first time you're vlogging with Lay. How much more now that you always say something unfavorable to your own country Lay. Oh by the way, have your teeth fixed first for aesthetic reasons being in social media and vlogging. I hope you listen to my suggestion instead of just brushing it off. It's for your own good as a vlogger. Please, enough of these comparisons between the Philippines and Bangkok because we've been hearing this from you so many times already and it's not nice anymore especially coming from you Lay. One more thing, I think Lay should learn to cook already homemade meals. We respect your decision and move on already. Good luck.
@@kismet8ann 1) Comparing Manila to Bangkok is a logical comparison. If he wanted to compare the province, he would have compared it to somewhere in Isan. 2)Lay's family is only 3hrs away. It takes that long to go anywhere in Manila. 3) Would you rather compare airports? Trash? Brownouts? The thing is people usually give the win to the Philippines when it comes to the people. That is, until they read messages like yours. 4) NOBODY cares what you are sick of. They made an informative video that was honest and factual. You cant argue anything that was said. The fact that you get but hurt by people SAYING the Philippines is dirty and full of trash but not by the FACT that it is dirty and full of trash is mind-numbing. It however explains a lot.

Interesting. One thing I keep hearing about is that in Philippines you’re not going to have as much as language barrier as in Bangkok. Thai people’s English is just not as good right?
True, restaurants will typically understand your order in Bangkok, but tougher to have chats with locals for sure. Not always though, depending on the neighborhood you're in
Manila for me as well once I retire from California. No Thailand I prefer English language plus I want the Filipino food that I’m accustomed to eating. Have to plans to learn another language except learn more Tagalog and my province language Bicol. Plus I have lots of relatives in Manila and Bicol. I wouldn’t mind visiting other Asian countries for vacation.
@ when I came to the US as a child took me a very long time to learn English even with tutors. Had to watch so much movies and tv shows to completely understand and learn English. I’m old now don’t need to learn another language.

Good point Lay about transport in Manila, they don't effectively publicise the transit system, they happy for foreigners to use taxis, most of them are out of control trying to scam tourists, its not surprising that tourism hasn't recovered in Philippines like in other asian countries since Covid. This year Cambodia is more popular, people vote with their feet
Nice discussion topic. Most foreigners choose Thailand as expats living there. I have some friends in Bangkok and they choose Bangkok rather than manila Philippines . Thanks for sharing 🙏 tom 😊

We all know Tom wouldn't live in the Philippines, Thailand he knows well, so not shocked at Lay's choice. You can both still visit family in the Philippines and Ireland. Food good and inexpensive if you choose. Hot street food not served cold like in the Philippines.
Ofcourse its cheap to live there and you guys have no stable source of income but vlogging, in the Philippines is very convenient to live and everyone speak English!
Maybe they speak in Manila English, but in other places I can barely make myself understood, most taxi drivers on other islands hardly understand English
I have lived in Asia for 36 years:split between HK, Thailand (2 spells), Philippines (3 spells), India, Vietnam. Currently 5 years and counting in Pasig. Married a Filipina a long time ago and we have a 28 year old son and he prefers Manila to Bangkok, as he is a dual national and works without the need for a WP. Honestly, accommodation is cheaper, generally, in Manila. Like for like, having rented condos long-term in Bangkok (2013-19) and Pasig (2019- ongoing), Manila is cheaper. You cannot compare BGC and any part of Bangkok like for like because Bangkok has no BGC equivalent. And accommodation is the single biggest expense. Other costs are similar, in terms of supermarket shopping. And if you live somewhere, you really should be cooking at home a lot of the time. Eating out is a needless expense. The biggest drawback with Thailand, as a foreigner, is the pain in the butt that visa limits create. Any foreigner can stay in Manila for 3 years before there is a requirement to exit. Lay, as a foreigner in Thailand, will have to deal with immigration.
@@Tom-Lay I can tell you, like for like, I moved from a 2 bedroom condo in a nice block, pool/gym etc., in Ramkhamhaeng, to an equivalent condo 2 bedroom condo in Pasig, with same facilities, and it was 17000 Baht in BKK and 17000 Pesos in Pasig (both furnished). That makes the Pasig condo about 40% cheaper.
I agree 100% that Thailand is a better option for most people. I like to visit the Philippines but I will live in Thailand. The food, infrastructure, security, medical, and housing are all better in Thailand.
The density of Manila is 43,611 people per square kilometer whilst Bangkok is only 5,300 people per square kilometre. For me, Philippines wins hands down. More wild and beautiful beaches and Islands in the Philippines, travel around the Philippines is far more fun. The people are warmer and friendlier, the music taste is Western as opposed awful Thai music. My standard of living is higher and more enjoyable in the Philippines. Thai food is nicer, but thats about the only advantage. So Philippines for me every time.
It seem if you are eating out everyday, Thailand would be a much better place to live when talking about quality and taste of food. I have never been to either country but based on opinions of people, it seems as though Thailand is better to settle down if you have a girlfriend and Philippines would be better to meet a girlfriend.
I live in the province off Bohol (Anda) we went on vacation in Phuket a year ago, positive: infra structure, internet, electricity( no bran outs) better food, better hotels, negative, not so friendly people, language,
@ compared to here the prices off restaurants where about 50% higher then here, a good meal at a restaurant in a resort with ocean vieuw is about 450 peso ( no drinks included)
I 100% agree in regards to the ability (or lack of) to maximise a day in Manila. I’m from New Zealand living in BGC in Manila and I have never felt so isolated. It is so challenging to go out anywhere that you end up going nowhere. It just isn’t worth going to other areas in Manila when you waste so much time getting there and back. It’s also incredibly stressful trying to drive through the chaos in Manila, so even when you do go out it’s just not enjoyable. Having good infrastructure to move around is so important.
Are you referring to metro manila versus Bangkok .. or Quezon city, pasay city, taguig city, makati city, Valenzuela city, muntinlupa city or bgc versus bangkok
Yes I agree Thailand is a safe place as a traveller foreigners unlike Philippines many times I Heard on my friends and the food there is cheaper.. good luck guys hope you are lucky and stay forever on your relationship 😊
Interesting to hear so many opinions about the differences, not just between the cities themselves but as a visitor versus a working resident and a man and a woman too. Is the pool open now to enjoy 🏊🏻♀️
All the best too You Tom And you Lay🙂Thailand is better too live many more possibilities in Thailand ❤️have Living In Thailand before 5 yers❤️ and live In PH now but Will move back too Thailand Agine and im 41 year Old All the Best💪🏽🙂
Thailand is better for food, accommodation, quality of life. Cheaper for higher standards. Philippines is more private, less touristy, easier to connect with locals, easier to find a girlfriend not a prostitute. Most people choose the Philippines because of these aspects, but Thailand offers the better quality of living at a lower price.
I think most people know Thailand is a much better place overall than Phils. But its way harder to stay long term in Thailand. unless you can and are willing to pay much more $$$ for visa options.
Ph infrastructure / efficiency needs to catch up. Ph needs nuclear plants for electricity = cheaper hotels & food. Thai food is overrated - if Pinoys smarten up they could match or even beat it. I prefer Vietnamese cuisine over Thai any day. I bet Mr Bourdain agrees.
Love your videos! I've lived in the Philippines and am moving back next month. Visited Bangkok and enjoyed so many things about Bangkok over the Philippines. I think I might just try out living in Thailand. I see that my experience was the same as the two of you. Cool
I have lived in Manila since 2003 except for 2 times me and my family lived in Bangkok (in fact on the other side of Suhumvit from where you are). Best Mexican food in BKK is walking distance from there. Margarita Storm cor SUK soi 13 and SUK road, Me my Filipina wife and fil-am son lived in both places for many years. Ties: International schools in both countries are really bad and over-priced as well. Medical care: very terrible experience at Makati Med. BKK: Bumrungrad was OK for me and not grate for my then yound son, but not horrible. Food: far better in Thailand on every level. Sorry to say, not even close. Living conditions: Rockwell was great, but missed the mark on a few things. BKK: cheap, nice buildings with full amenities. I love sauna, most condos there have it and steam room and Jacuzzi, I use those things every day. and they are clean. Manila living conditions: rents are much higher and quality is much lower. Plus the furnishings in places other than Rockwell are really bad. For me and my Family - quality of life was just much better in BKK - I drive in Manila and all over the Philippines. I do not drive in Thailand because I don't need to, mass transit has things well covered. We prefer Filipa helper, so we hired those in BKK. Pretty sure they are TNT but there are lots of them and they do a good job. Worst thing about Thailand has been immigrations. Very difficult. But I just got my DVT (Digital Nomad Visa), so it should be much better now. BTW: you can pick up a DTV at the Thai embassy on Roda street in Legaspi Village (Manila). You cannot get one inside of Thailand.
I totally agree with you I think the Philippines charge far too much money for what you get in the Philippines have less to offer than Thailand the hotels are cheaper I'm better the food is better in Thailand than the Philippines just everything is better than Thailand in the Philippines only thing the Philippines have go for them the people speak English that's it the train get internet in the Philippines is very expensive and it's crap Thailand's party here for cheaper you got a 7-Eleven and get your SIM card Philippines you have no chance to do now if you're a foreigner just on a holiday or someone decides to put their name on it and get the card for you but you cannot put it in your own name the Philippines need to waking up recharge too much money for what you get add guidelines more developed yes part of Manila is late going to another country it's a city within a city is the difference between day and night it's unbelievable you know that I know that
For me Philippines is like third world, too much trash. skin tax and lack of infrastructure. Im on Hua Hin Thailand, its not Bangkok, but people speak enough English, friendly and great food
Is the pick pocket thing bad in SE Asia like in Europe? By the way had to report a nasty comment calling you guys moldy sandwiches, total idiot with a smart attitude! 🤔
The English is not spoken has much in Thailand although they do speak it in Bangkok but in patches of the city. English is more spoken throughout the Philippines so I’ll take P.I.
Yeah Manila restaurant are expensive and the food and service is not up to par..very disappointing paying over 3K for 2 people…it was awful seafood boil
Ive been to both many times and there is no way i could live in manila. There is nothing to do and eating options are terrible. Bangkok is a lot more laid back as well.
It's just the visa issues in Thailand that are a huge ''pain in the ass" when compared to the tourist visa in the Philippines ? --- Not been to either - but heard many videos like yours here comparing the two ! --- I'm old and retired so leaving the country every 3 months is a huge pain in the ass !!! Every 3 years is so much better !!!!!! - - - All else clearly puts Thailand as the winner - and not close really. > My conclusion: I'll live in Siem Reap on their "retirement visa" and visit Thailand. The accommodations and the food is quite good enough for me. Far less crowded than the big city life for everyday living and essentials for "comfort" !!! Visit Bangkok for occasional fun and medical purposes. 🤗
@Tom & Lay haha.. Tom just watching your vlog now and that what you said about paying 350 pesos for what you got, but man that's still cheap compared to here in Northern Ireland and south of Ireland. 350 pesos is only 4.93 pounds, but if you were buying that here now it would probably cost close to 10 pounds. I have never been to Thailand and don't know about the money there or food, but am sure there is still food there that is abit expensive aswell. Lay is right about Rockwell mall because it is expensive, coz it's seems the rich Filipina and Filipinos go.
Thailand has 70M people living in 500k sq km. Philippines has 120M people living in 300k sq km. Ph almost 3x more people per sq. Ergo everything in Ph is smaller.
Jomtien is ideal for me - being old and retired. Visit Bangkok frequently but daily essentials for living '''comfortably''' with much less chaos...... 🤗
To be fair Lay has not really been around other places and really seen what they all have to offer. For example if Lay was to come to the States her first thought would be how much everything cost But she would not really get a chance to see all the beauty. Also if lay was to see Dane Lionheart in person she would just scream out I want to live in Florida or Alaska or what ever State Dane is going to because he is the best damn good looking guy I have ever seen. Then she would taste some of my cooking and just melt .But then again Tom if you was to come here you would say the same things and to try my cooking even you would want to be my lover lmao.

@@timmy4wimmy well Dublin is a lot smaller city than London so different in population but both are convenient
I've been to both MANY times and I couldn't agree with you more on everything you have said. Now I just need to convince my Filipina to move.
Cool
Thailand by far! No doubt...
It seem if you are eating out everyday, Thailand would be a much better place to live when talking about quality and taste of food. I have never been to either country but based on opinions of people, it seems as though Thailand is better to settle down if you have a girlfriend and Philippines would be better to meet a girlfriend.
Thailand wins if you bring a Filipina.
was treated with more friendly people in thailand and more respect
I live in the province off Bohol (Anda) we went on vacation in Phuket a year ago, positive: infra structure, internet, electricity( no bran outs) better food, better hotels, negative, not so friendly people, language,
Interesting
@ compared to here the prices off restaurants where about 50% higher then here, a good meal at a restaurant in a resort with ocean vieuw is about 450 peso ( no drinks included)
Cool i went scuba diving i anda this year and really enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing
So true just going from point A to B takes the whole day😂
This is going to ruffle some feathers 😂
Are you referring to metro manila versus Bangkok .. or Quezon city, pasay city, taguig city, makati city, Valenzuela city, muntinlupa city or bgc versus bangkok
Manila vs bangkok
Yes I agree Thailand is a safe place as a traveller foreigners unlike Philippines many times I Heard on my friends and the food there is cheaper.. good luck guys hope you are lucky and stay forever on your relationship 😊
Thanks 🙏
❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍
Interesting to hear so many opinions about the differences, not just between the cities themselves but as a visitor versus a working resident and a man and a woman too.
Is the pool open now to enjoy 🏊🏻♀️
Yes 😄😄
All the best too You Tom And you Lay🙂Thailand is better too live many more possibilities in Thailand ❤️have Living In Thailand before 5 yers❤️ and live In PH now but Will move back too Thailand Agine and im 41 year Old
All the Best💪🏽🙂
Interesting
Talk about a chair leg on the edge….look at Li chair
😂
Thailand way, way better, especially the food.
Have to agree
Thailand is better for food, accommodation, quality of life. Cheaper for higher standards.
Philippines is more private, less touristy, easier to connect with locals, easier to find a girlfriend not a prostitute. Most people choose the Philippines because of these aspects, but Thailand offers the better quality of living at a lower price.
👍
Philippines
I think most people know Thailand is a much better place overall than Phils. But its way harder to stay long term in Thailand. unless you can and are willing to pay much more $$$ for visa options.
Ph infrastructure / efficiency needs to catch up. Ph needs nuclear plants for electricity = cheaper hotels & food.
Thai food is overrated - if Pinoys smarten up they could match or even beat it.
I prefer Vietnamese cuisine over Thai any day. I bet Mr Bourdain agrees.
Food comes down to preference
Love your videos! I've lived in the Philippines and am moving back next month. Visited Bangkok and enjoyed so many things about Bangkok over the Philippines. I think I might just try out living in Thailand. I see that my experience was the same as the two of you. Cool
👍
I have lived in Manila since 2003 except for 2 times me and my family lived in Bangkok (in fact on the other side of Suhumvit from where you are).
Best Mexican food in BKK is walking distance from there. Margarita Storm cor SUK soi 13 and SUK road,
Me my Filipina wife and fil-am son lived in both places for many years.
Thanks for sharing your experience.!
👌👌🙏🙏👍👍
And for me you are so much trash idiot
Is the pick pocket thing bad in SE Asia like in Europe? By the way had to report a nasty comment calling you guys moldy sandwiches, total idiot with a smart attitude! 🤔
No it’s not bad but you should always be aware anywhere
The English is not spoken has much in Thailand although they do speak it in Bangkok but in patches of the city. English is more spoken throughout the Philippines so I’ll take P.I.
I love Thailand! I
Prefer Thailand for me too
Interesting why?
@@Tom-Lay because its cheaper and people there friendly , and i love the condo there too its bigger and cheap by the ocean .
@ cool 👌
I imagine no noisy roosters crowing from all hours is a blessing in Thailand🤔
Yeah Manila restaurant are expensive and the food and service is not up to par..very disappointing paying over 3K for 2 people…it was awful seafood boil
Yeh that sucks we had similar experience in seafood place
Tom she is only saying that because she is with you ask her if she will live there bye her self not with u
Ive been to both many times and there is no way i could live in manila. There is nothing to do and eating options are terrible. Bangkok is a lot more laid back as well.
Yeh more chilled for sure
Cool 👌
@Tom & Lay haha.. Tom just watching your vlog now and that what you said about paying 350 pesos for what you got, but man that's still cheap compared to here in Northern Ireland and south of Ireland.
350 pesos is only 4.93 pounds, but if you were buying that here now it would probably cost close to 10 pounds.
I have never been to Thailand and don't know about the money there or food, but am sure there is still food there that is abit expensive aswell.
Lay is right about Rockwell mall because it is expensive, coz it's seems the rich Filipina and Filipinos go.
Yes it is but when you live in a country you can’t compare to your currency that’s why so many of us get white taxed 😅
For me it's the food. I struggled to find healthy tasty food in philly
Yes food is a big thing
Thailand has 70M people living in 500k sq km. Philippines has 120M people living in 300k sq km. Ph almost 3x more people per sq. Ergo everything in Ph is smaller.
This not a true reflection if you move out of BKK
Jomtien is ideal for me - being old and retired. Visit Bangkok frequently but daily essentials for living '''comfortably''' with much less chaos...... 🤗
Beaches and islands in the Philippines are much better than Thailand but for long stay, it is Thailand.
Yes Philippines better to travel so much nature and cool spots to check out
To be fair Lay has not really been around other places and really seen what they all have to offer.
Definitely the weirdest comment I've ever read. Who says this?? Gross, you don't even know these people like that. 😂
I think the drugs are taking their toll😅
@@ziggarillo It has to be the good stuff lmao🤣😅😂
@@gregorydorough7479 Awe you are just jealous I wasn't talking about you
419th Like of the show
Many foreigners are living in the province away from Manila and they are comfortable with it. Good luck.
Honesty is the best medicine
You talk shit now about Philippines
Nope
its just their oppinion 😮
They aren’t talking shit, it’s just their experience. I love both countries but Thailand is a more livable country on most levels. Philippines can be very challenging.
They'll go back to the Philippines when they run out of money. They need pinoy views.
Their comments are 100% valid. All countries have good and bad, but you’re just ignorant and have a closed mind..
Philippines-Thailand comparison video no. 573
Easy winner Thailand just look around tourist out of control in Thailand but Philippines u don't see as many at all
True
True but that’s why it’s harder to find a good woman in Thailand. Bigger competition, more foreigners, and even the English.
