A big upset, but I still look back on the 70-71 bruins with Robert Gordon Orr, Espo, Sanderson and the boys who were dumped in 7 by a Canadians team with a certain Ken Dryden in net. Dryden was a college player called up for the last 6 games of the season, helping drag the habs into the playoffs. Dryden then stood on his head, stoning the high scoring bruins en route to a playoff MVP award and the Stanley Cup.

As a Mariners fan, I strongly disagree. That started a 21 year postseason drought that finally ended last season. Never been to a World Series in franchise history. The Boston Bruins have done it all. The 2001 Mariners dominated everyone, finished 70 games over .500...and then suddenly forget how to hit, barely squeaking by Cleveland and never posed a threat to the Yankees. I feel like there was a lot more significance to that story that should've been written but never was, and still never has to this day.

I'm honestly relieved you made it to the playoffs finally last year. But the context I was giving was that in that season, you at least won that first playoff series versus Cleveland. Golden State at least made it to the Finals. 2007 New England Patriots at least made it to the Superbowl before the 1 in 18-1 happened. The 2023 Boston Bruins didn't get out of the first round after setting the wins record and after holding a 3-1 series lead. That's going to be damn hard to top for wasting a dominant regular season. If this were to be an objective argument with stats.. this is the biggest upset, not one of the biggest. Team with best NHL record in history, largest point gap between a 1 and 8 seed, and Bruins were up 3-1, but lost 3 straight. Find another upset match that tops that.

I think it is safe to say that the Panthers won that trade with the Flames. Tkachuk is a dynamic player, he threw off the Bruins goalie in the previous game and even caused a minor distraction in this one causing the tying goal. Scoring the OT in another game and had a breakaway here almost ending it. Good thing Brad Treliving is gone. We miss you Tkachuk!
Lightning fan also... and from what I've seen of both series I really think the Panthers have a good shot at winning the cup this season... They've played lights out hockey for the last month now...

And coach Montgomery will have to prove that he is not only a good motivator with a smile but also an excellent strategist, tactician; something he failed to prove in that fatal first round. THANK YOU to the whole team for the historic regular season. However, it's not the performances of the regular season that make you deserve or not to win the Stanley Cup... but the ones you offer during the playoffs. The organization would be wise to never again forget or ignore this principle. See you next season!
@@wad316 I can't totally disagree with you. Pastrnak has an exceptional talent and it is not debatable. However, he has no aggressiveness and often lacks ardor and determination. However, playing in the same team as a Bergeron or a Marchand should instill in him this unlimited will. Obviously not. He tends to be overconfident and conclude that he never needs to give more. In addition, he does not appreciate physical play. During the rough parts, it is not very visible. In this first round, he was only really present in three games.

Happy for Paul Maurice. From my seat, I think he is one classy individual. He left the Winnipeg Jets with dignity and I feel he did the best he could with that group of players. A well deserved ticket to the next round after an incredible comeback in this series.
Panther's performance was one of the grittiest I've ever seen in the NHL playoffs. This team is nowhere near done.

This is by far one of the most amazing things I could have expected going into the playoffs. One of the greatest regular seasons ever turns out to mean absolutely nothing. Couldnt happen to a more deserving group of fans. Obviously a Leaf here and this is truly amazing. Thank you for this Boston. This almost feels as good as the Leafs actually winning a round finally. As a Mariners fan, I strongly disagree. That started a 21 year postseason drought that finally ended last season. Never been to a World Series in franchise history. The Boston Bruins have done it all. The 2001 Mariners dominated everyone, finished 70 games over .500...and then suddenly forget how to hit, barely squeaking by Cleveland and never posed a threat to the Yankees. I feel like there was a lot more significance to that story that should've been written but never was, and still never has to this day.

I think it is safe to say that the Panthers won that trade with the Flames. Tkachuk is a dynamic player, he threw off the Bruins goalie in the previous game and even caused a minor distraction in this one causing the tying goal. Scoring the OT in another game and had a breakaway here almost ending it. Good thing Brad Treliving is gone. We miss you Tkachuk!

This team must renew itself. The shortcomings have become too obvious. The Bruins need to develop real all-round talent (including in net)...meaning fast, tall, muscular players (a bit like Western Conference teams ). And coach Montgomery will have to prove that he is not only a good motivator with a smile but also an excellent strategist, tactician; something he failed to prove in that fatal first round.

However, it's not the performances of the regular season that make you deserve or not to win the Stanley Cup... but the ones you offer during the playoffs. The organization would be wise to never again forget or ignore this principle.

@@wad316 I can't totally disagree with you. Pastrnak has an exceptional talent and it is not debatable. However, he has no aggressiveness and often lacks ardor and determination. However, playing in the same team as a Bergeron or a Marchand should instill in him this unlimited will. Obviously not. He tends to be overconfident and conclude that he never needs to give more. In addition, he does not appreciate physical play. During the rough parts, it is not very visible. In this first round, he was only really present in three games.
