The lore is that, these are tanks developed and forced into production in secrecy by the Regular Army, because Morden’s Army almost destroyed the Regular Army. Because of that, these tanks are made and kept hidden behind enemy lines for use by Regular Army commandos in special operations (Thats why they were made to be able to jump, crouch, and operable by a single person. Honestly, that’s pretty ingenious and revolutionary) But, the tanks were eventually discovered and captured. This is where Marco comes in, the Regular Army sent him to recapture the tanks, or destroy them to prevent from being captured. Tarma volunteered when he knew about this. Fio and Eri were recruited to assist him. They succeded against all odds, and the SV-001 proved to be an indispensible tank. Every other type of vehicle that’s not unique (Anything without SV in it) are provably just regular tanks any army can purchase for their own use.
The elephant slug is really cool and funny for the fact when the elephant eats something that allows it to shoot lasers out of its trunk, it makes a face like it can't believe it just did that.
The black hound is a slug as the mini boss from MS5, in Metal Slug Advance as the playable slugs, it used the mortar launcher (with unlimited ammo of enemy chaser) instead a vulcan and instead a laser hatch. In MSD and MSA as the playable units from PM army. It used horizontal vulcan shots, mortar launcher, close range laser and ramming attack with lasers. There are more of types of black hound (Type-R with fire more of catapult mortars while close range lasers, Land Blowfish exclusive with same attack like type-r version and golden version with overheat lasers, only in MSA)
Fun fact: the Slug Flyer is based on the IRL aircraft Harrier which is actually capable of taking off vertically and can hover like the Slug Flyer does, so seeing a Slug Flyer which is a jet engaging in a "dogfight" against a helicopter face to face isn't crazy at all. To this day Metal Slug is the only game I've ever seen that recreates Harrier's helicopter-ish behavior in such a realistic way in a playable aircraft (except for War Thunder and GTA).
Slug Gunner is really cool and my fav becoz when you do stabby, the follow up animation is like theres a flying slug from its arm, its like its not a stake but rather a big injection knife and I presumed that would be the Co2 slug.
The Slug Gunner’s melee weapon is a pilebunker, if im correct. It’s basically just a fictional shell/gas-powered spear that got popularized by mecha animes. Uses gas or like an explosive round to make the spear go PSSHUNK
I randomly come across this in my recommendation, just looking at the thumbnail made me smile and then cry the next, it reminded me of my childhood and all the fun I had with my cousins playing this game. Us cousins grew distant because we lived in different countries and didn't really contacted each other through social media, but now I video called them and talked for a long time catching up 😁

They're cute, they're fast and quite powerful without being TOO broken, and the best part? *They're expressive.* They comically recoil when they fire and flinch when they're hit; they stretch and squeeze while jumping and crouching... the tanks feel *alive,* making them fit perfectly into the MS world with all the other fluid sprite animations. And THAT'S why the original tanks are my favorite Slugs. TL;DR: i wanna hug a fictional tank bite me

Slunoid was a pain in the ass. You lose each turrets with each damage and eventually you have nothing to shoot. That's just punishing

We get the turret on the first half of Final mission in MS-3 to pay homage to the first game, which has a special kind of charm, like mission 5 with the old lady in the background. Something Metal slug 3 lacked or the Arab in Metal slug 2 and the business man
