    In this video, I put my homemade compost to the ultimate test! Using the biological testing methods of Dr. Elaine Ingham, a leading expert in soil microbiology, I dive deep into the microbial life present in my compost. We’ll see if it’s packed with beneficial organisms like bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes - or if it’s missing the mark. Watch as I analyze the diversity and quantity of microorganisms under the microscope to determine if this compost is truly healthy and ready to boost soil fertility.
    Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just getting into composting, this video will give you insight into why microbial diversity is key to building a rich, living soil. Join me on this journey of scientific discovery and learn how you can use biological testing to assess your own compost quality.

    Pasture Raised PIMP awesome video, way to Geek out soil and compost. Can't wait for additional video's showing the progress, as far as teas and extracts, making and applying. God Bless from TN.

    Man I just listened to you geek out with very little understanding of what you are saying. Time to nerd out. What's your favorite resource for the layman to aquire an understanding?

      Aww man, I'm sorry. I'll do a video explaining the soil food web. Dr. Elaine Ingham is a good one. If you like audio books/books, check out For the Love of Soil, by Nicole Masters. I think she gives a well rounded understanding of the importance of soil biology.

    How badly can chemtrails screw up your soil? I have zero mushrooms on my mountain, and they used to be abundant. Nobody has done anything, except for the chemtrails.

      Chemtrails have messed up my garden too.

      That's a good question. I know one of the ingredients is Barium Chloride, which is a water soluble salt, so there's really no telling.

      If the con trails are screwing up your soil, then your whole country is knackered

    In the 60s i was training in Haematology lab, we used a silk cloth to clean cover slips.
    So you dont bend over to use your mirciscope, raise the microscope ie with piece of 2 by 12 wood or adjust your seat.

      I use the paper towel to clean the soil off and then finish it off with a lint free cloth. I don't know why I didn't do it, but my desk is actually adjustable 😂 I'm over here hunching over for no reason

    I’d love a breakdown video of your microscope setup. I need one to fully capture the element of my worm castings. Personally I feel worm castings fresh harvested at home are the key to it all when it comes to water and sun and erosion and soil health! Great video!🤙🪱

      10:36 this kind of stuff is awesome it’s perfect for what I wanna do!! I imagine I can use the initial reading of castings and adjust feedings to account for deficiencies specific for the application uses. Like if I want calcium or potassium or magnesium concentration than possibly seeing if increase in this we correlate to the castings!! This will be my new nightly video so I get it down mentally!! Can’t wait for more videos on the micro and I see a lab coat sporting you quite well for these segments lol😅 thank you brother and keep it up!🤙🪱

    William what a very important topic! But, I must say, that I was secretly wishing that you were sporting a Texas size Mullet! But seeing you without a hat in your lab, you kinda burst my bubble! I live vicariously through men who have a good head of hair! Oh! I used to have a great head of hair, but that was 40 years ago! But, if I did have hair, it would be a Mullet - Texas Style! 😁

    I am enchanted with this test video. I know you have quantities you are seeking but are there any type of national or international standards and who is setting the standards? What kind of numbers are we looking for?

    • @ThePermacultureConsultant
      @ThePermacultureConsultant  7 днів тому

      There are is a set of standards, but I'm not entirely sure who set them. I'm sure it's from observations of various soils. If you search "Fungal to Bacteria Ratio Chart" you should pull up a chart telling you the preferred ratio based on what you're wanting to grow. Thank you!

    QUESTION🎉 HOW FO YOU BUILD Fungi

  • @FarmerCheryl
    @FarmerCheryl 8 днів тому +1

    What kind of microscope are you using? Are you at 400x or higher? Could you obtain compost samples of Johnson-Su, Elaine Ingham, Catalyst Bioamendments, and others that are supposed to have the correct fungal to bacterial ratios? I’ve been using spent mushroom blocks in my compost, so I would be interested in your biological microscopic results from the spent mushroom blocks.

    • @HippocratesGarden
      @HippocratesGarden 8 днів тому +1

      What kind of mushroom. Oysters are known to reduce nematode populations. This could be good (removing the "bad ones"), or bad (removes good ones as well). Just something to keep in mind.

    • @FarmerCheryl
      @FarmerCheryl 7 днів тому +1

      These are spent mushroom blocks, not fresh mushroom blocks. People who’ve used really spent mushroom blocks tell me they don’t have nematodes. Looking forward to the @thepermacultureconsultant investigating this.

      @@FarmerCheryl Google "oyster mushroom compost nematode" and peruse the results. dont' trust me or any one other person (btw, I've also got one pdc, working through a 2nd, have done Dr Inghams course and a bit more.. so.)

      I'm using an Omax compound shadowing microscope. The eyepiece is 10x but I use 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives which turns into 40x, 100x, and 400x. I have a 100x objective but that's not needed for testing and I'm not entirely sure how to properly use it. It's apparently helpful for specific taxonomy.
