Chris was talking about the trailer that the coach was sitting on - many many years ago I was involved in heavy lifting - one company had a hover trailer basically a trailer with a skirt and a large fan it was used to take heavy loads across weak bridges it would hover across

An interesting hangout to see the carriage go over to IOW. In the steam days railway stock would go over by Bembridge or to dock on the River Medina.

I’ve only just watched this as I couldn’t watch yesterday. Well done team. This was the best episode yet IMHO. I’d love to go to the IOW again. I competely missed the 483s. Last time was in the mid 1980s when the even older trains were in service.

Another great episode of the hangouts. I will certainly have a ride on the Island line when I visit the Isle of Wight in May.
A lot of heritage railways also use low loader wagons to move their locomotives and rolling stock around the country because it’s cheaper than sending them by rail.
There’s a good tv programme on the Yesterday channel called Train Truckers which covers this subject
Keep up the good work 👍

If you come up to Manchester it was, of course, the first place the public could ride a DLR train. When the local council here was trying to sell the idea of a tram network, they borrowed one of the DLR trains on it's way to London, stuck a pantograph on it, and ran it up a now closed section of rail line in the suburbs. Much love for your awesome shows :)

I have been re-watching your increasingly large back catalogue of episodes and was struck at how excited you were when you and sam were estimating total views. It was just over 100,000 about a year ago. Do you know how many views you now have ? I count 519,000 with the previous class 484 episode being the highest. There is something magic about seeing old become new like this. Over 27000 views seems to agree. Please keep going. Lots of future left to explore.

Excellent video gang, nice paint job on the old D78, would like you all create a history of the old LU line Northern City line - Moorgate to Finsbury Park and the former depot site at Drayton Park, those 1938 trains were in use there up to transfer to BR in 1975 and the Moorgate disaster before the Converstion, I had been those two former northbound tunnels at Drayton Park, the LT Museum has some excellent photos, saw an impressive UA-cam video showing the layout, interested to learn about the 1938 stock transfer over the ramp about the whats now mainline trains to Finsbury Park, be interesting if you could do such a documentary for me 😀.

@@alexgrundon2346 You might be able to get some library footage of Drayton Park, saw two videos on UA-cam, one of the deport being stripped, mainly tracks being removed while a 313 EMU in Network South East livery climbed the ramp up to Finsbury Park, Drayton Park was one of my local stations, was a frequent user of TESCO around the corner 👍.

Two questions 1) how did the trains move from underground depot to depot where they were changed and then to Hampshire could they travel on normal railway or did they have to use lorry? 2) I noticed that the second unit to arrive was on the trailer the same way round as the first, but surely that would mean when it came off the trailer on to the tracks it be facing the wrong way and could not couple up to the first unit?

    • @alexgrundon2346

YOU CLEVER BOY! Car 2 was loaded onto the lorry the wrong way round so a clever bit of driving sorted the problem. One was reversed in. One went in forwards. But very well spotted !

@@alexgrundon2346 You get that I wasn't suggesting chopping up the audio, instead just do more of the cutaways that were already being done. As for the humour, I kind of tuned out because of the distracting image exposure.
I've really only made a comment about it because your production values are usually spot-on, and this seemed to not be up to your usual high standards.
