I'd love to see you guys do a side by side review of the Sherco 500 SEF and the Beta 500 RS. The only major difference I can see is the Sherco has a slightly taller stroke so it may have a lil more low end grunt. But it would be a cool comparison.
I ride a 22 450 Sherco and the bike is amazing. It is a little heftier than the competition but I only feel that in the tightest woods and in the “oh crap!” Moments. It doesn’t flame out easily and makes very good power of the bottom and rolls off at the top. It’s super stable and smashes through 2 track like no body’s business. I’m excited for the 500 and hope they sell out of them. With the KYB suspension it’s an incredible platform that is ready to rip! ❤❤
Sherco’s are basically the closest thing that we’ll ever get to a Modern Day Bultaco!… I would love to see Sherco come out with a commemorative Bultaco Edition with a classic Bultaco livery.
Sounds like a unicorn bike. However being a dual sport it would have been nice to have highway review. Or at least a twisty road test ride. I am sure it will come.
@@ericcournoyer1595this isn’t a 650 replacement as it is much more off road biased. (Like 95/5). It’s effectively the 2023 500. I ride my 450 (plated) on gravel roads and occasional pavement with full off road tires and no issues. I mentioned in another comment the transmission gearing is not a super wide ratio which would limit its use on the highway without relying on 1st gear in the woods a lot. My bike had a 14/50 and I went to a 13/48 which cruises at 45 in 6th. If they widened the gearing that would be great, but the aim of this bike is a plated enduro.
is this just the normal SEF 500 that is road legal now? Or have they actually made physical changes to make it a legit duelsport? Such as more oil capacity for longer service intervals? Cush drive rear hub? Softer seat?
The seat doesn’t need to be softer. This is a dual sport, or a street legal enduro. This is a perfect bike for dual sport events, connecting trails, etc. I don’t think the use case is riding the TAT. I have the 450 and my only gripe is the transmission gearing could be taller in 5-6. The 2.5ish gallon tank will get me through about 95 miles based on 40 miles a gallon when I’m doing events. The Selle Della Val seats are soft and very good compared to Beta’s wood plank and the KTM seats. I love mine having owned all of the above.
It is a legal version of the Enduro race bike. The changes are limited to the minimum requirements for the plate. The whole Sherco Enduro range is able to be registered for road use in Australia.
The DOT has a bunch of requirements, including a keyed ignition, lights, blinkers, horn, mirrors and so forth. The EPA has its own list, which deals with emissions and noise.
Oh and the only difference is likely that the soft map is used for the duel sport option. Talk to your dealer about mapping specs. The 300SEF is a great ride on the road and I expect that the 500 is even better.
When does the reflash show up ? I’d rather control things with a selectable map and/or a throttle tamer. I’m mainly interested due to the street registration. Lots of enduros around here are open course and use public road to transfer to another test. This state has been revoking previously registered KTM, Beta and Husky cause they realized the vin stood for off highway even though they came new with a motorcycle title
Is it faster than the beta 500rr which is the fastest and the best engine out of all of them I think the Bata weighs 30 lbs lighter baby good to see another contender these bikes are Rock solid I rode one for a long time they are f****** bulletproof
The DRZ is in a category of its own, imo. Its way lighter and quicker than an xr/dr650 and it feels lighter than any 450 due to manageable power and predictable handling.
@@stmboat Iv had every low end and expensive dual sport there is. Nothing out there beats this bike for true 50/50 dual sport riding. Im glad Sherco is competing against KTM cuz Im sick of them buying their competition.
What's the gas tank size? What does it have for gages, like fuel level? Any support for rear luggage? Has Cody Web ever tent camped off a bike? This demo ride tells us nothing.
4 stroke Shercos have a 9.7lt fuel tank. There's no instruments other than a simple speedo/trip (made by Trailtech), but there is a low fuel light and the tank is translucent. The bike really is the regular Enduro race bike that has been road use approved. As such, there's no much in travel gear, but if your budget is unlimited, there is a a rally tower and carbon side pod rear fuel tank in the parts catalogue.
Great that they made a street legal dirt bike but to call something a dual sport it should come with a 16 L tank a wide seat at the back for highway stints. Stings to buy a new bike and then replace the tank and seat to make it functional. Glad to see another player in this category though.
All Sherco models are street legal and unrestricted in Europe. The most reliable bike I've ever owned. Still on the original piston after 250+ hours and I'm not afraid to ride it deep into the wilderness 100+ miles away from home and all on my own.
Yeah same for me. In France we say « Trail » bike instead of dual sport for something like a heavy enduro : 500XT or Vstorm, multistrada (even if this one is more for the road). @@80_kanon_08
why do you set these up at premiers? and on top of it, its set up for so long away.... if its something that peaks my interest, ive already went and watched everyone elses video on it, so no need to watch yours lol. total waste.
It’s great to see a small company come out and take on the competition.

A good friend of mine has a 2000 sherco 450 that is street legal still runs to this day have 15,000 miles very reliable

How come they dont list it on the website? seems odd.

This or a beta will be my next dual sport if I had the money

A bike that light with knobbies will never perform well on highway. You just can't beat the physics.
90/10 tires like d606,MT21 and Tusk do well on twities on a dr650. It is surprising considering the size of the knobs. @@iamandreja

Is there a keyed ignition on this bike? Tach/dash setup? Curious what dual sport features set it apart from the SEF.
The DOT has a bunch of requirements, including a keyed ignition, lights, blinkers, horn, mirrors and so forth. The EPA has its own list, which deals with emissions and noise.
The Aussies have had a version of this for years now. Easy to dial in the ECU to make the bike sing.

Please tell me, what is the dry weight of this sherco 500? Does it feel much heavier than 350?
How long until KTM tries buying them out too?
I wonder if they will make a 300sef dual sport?. I wonder if they will make a 300sef dual sport?.
Yes, they have a ton of variation, 2 stroke, 4 stroke, factory or not. See my comment below.
Not in the US at this time. Only the 500 and 125 4t
This is great to hear. But I still love my 20 year old DRZ.

why all americans insist in calling this bikes dual sport, this is a racing bike
In Europe we call that a Enduro bike. It's not at all a MX or SX bike.

Dual means two sooooo we say dual sport Because it is ment to handle two different riding styles.
Because it's an Enduro bike and it's street legal. Hence.. dual..
Enduro bikes… are street legal in most of the world@@cdr188
