Part of the appeal of early BOC is that back then none of us had the slightest idea what they were singing about. The were just straight up weird. Most of their early material was murky and weird and oblique and vaguely menacing, but it all swings like crazy too and the band was absolute fire.
why buck is the guitar god's guitar god? his solo's are so musical. its never about thrashing about 64th notes. he weaves a melody throughout. he is a jazzman in a hard rock band.
When they played Cities on Flame Live, they would have 5 guitars...the drummer would walk up with the lights low and the 5 would stand there banging out the chords. You can hear that in the live version
Outstanding! Great reaction, Biz. It's been forever since I've heard this Live track, and the whole album is excellent. This LP introduced them to a new league of fans in the 70's, who may have not heard their first 3 albums yet..
"Subhuman" probably should have been titled "Submariner", because that's more in line with the lyrics, but their manager, Sandy Pearlman, who wrote the lyrics, wanted to play off the word "Untermensch" to go with the image of a Nazi jet fighter, a Messerschmitt Me 262, used on the cover of their Secret Treaties album. That's the album with "Subhuman", "Astronomy", "Flaming Telepaths", "Career of Evil", "Dominance and Submission", and "ME 262", the short name of that jet. A good live track from them to check out is "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" from 1981. But you reacted to that last year.
8:22 Pretty much. The song was originally titled Blue Oyster Cult, but apparently Sandy Pearlman disliked the idea of having a song titled the same as the bands name. Sandy was BÖCs Producer & Manager, and he was also credited with Lyrics for many Blue Öyster Cult songs. Subhuman was retitled Blue Oyster Cult for the 1988 Imaginos album with extended lyrics. I love Albert Bouchard's, ex drummer of BÖC, version of the song Blue Oyster Cult he recorded for his 2020 album Re-Imaginos.
Love these guys! This is the end of their best era for me. Agents of Fortune began a more radio friendly era. 7 Screaming Diz Busters and Bucks Boogie off this are great. My favorite album is Tyranny and Mutation. Rock on!
Love this band, especially their early albums. 1971 album: Blue Oyster Cult: Transmaniacon MC ua-cam.com/video/b0yNndiQMVk/v-deo.html Before the Kiss, a Redcap ua-cam.com/video/9vSkXNM1XUQ/v-deo.html From "Secret Treaties": Dominance and Submission ua-cam.com/video/6xpnyoAOTCo/v-deo.html From "Agents of Fortune": [Don't Fear] The Reaper ua-cam.com/video/FS8p_F0Stog/v-deo.html&start_radio=1 Good sampling, but the 1971 album is my favorite.
…….great choice Biz, classic cult 🔥👏🏻 Love his voice 🔥🎸❤️ Musicianship is on point. Had the privilege to experience them my 1st time on the Black & Blue tour 🔥❤️🎸 (Cultöasaurus Erectus) tour for the Cult and Heaven & Hell for Sabbath 🤘🏼 (1980)
One of the best live albums done by anyone, anywhere, anytime. This was live at the Oakland Coliseum....I was 15, and blown away!
BOC doesn't get enough love, They belong in the ROCK and ROLL HALL of FAME 😅😊

I think that was ME262
On the same album, Then Came the Last Days of May. It's the most beautiful version of that beautiful song.
I saw them live in 1974. Great band!
My Black Sabbath tribute band opened for them in 2001 and those guys couldn't have been nicer.

Yep, I was one of those fans
I never miss a BÖC reaction! ❤

Agents of Fortune
Spectres
Fire of Unknown Origin
Listen to all 3 albums
BOC's is the king crimson of metal. you either love them or hate them because their music is challenging.
From the Album Imaginos and it's a great track on the studio album. Astronomy is a must from this album as well.
Spot on!

Secret Treaties is their best album
"The Vigil" is the next one...😎😎
My favorite cut off the album.
Awesome pick, Biz! 🎉
You all will let you know
I was always interested in the story of Imaginos from their album Imaginos, which has different versions of Subhuman and Astronomy.
Hey Biz the word is cryptic.
You have to hear Cagey Cretin!
This is dive, right here ❤
Just one guitar.
Its just plain old Cryptic
