  • On this episode of Make It Kustom, I build the ‘Mother Tucker’ . This heavy hitting nylon tipped hammer is perfect for shrinking sheet metal quickly.
    Materials:
    16” hickory handle
    2” aluminum round bar 6” long
    2” nylon round bar 2 pieces 3” long
    4- 3/8” coarse thread x 1/2” set screws

    No auto-feed. You are still part of the process. Many don’t have the patience or understand what that means. Great job.

    First, let me say, “thank you” for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us through your channel. You inspired me to try my hand at metal working.
    Secondly, That’s a great tool! I am adding that to my growing, “I want it” list of tools, especially since my current tooling is the HF basic hammer and dolly set and some wood working tools I am repurposing for working on my 1954 Chevy Advanced Designs 6400 grain truck build.
    I hope to create my own videos of the build I am calling Farmageddon since it will be my ‘Mad Max’ style heavy hauler for gravel, hay, trash etc… for our small Kansas farm.

    A little tip I learned a couple years ago. Is to toss a peice of leather over your sandbag. Because much easier to replace a peice of leather then the bag. And cheaper. Since no matter what the meatal will cut into it.

    Check out Pro Shaper, Wray has “stumps” lined with EDPM rubber to grip and hold the metal. As always, it’s enjoyable to watch a craftsman at work and learn a few things. 👍

    Great build Karl, I like it!...But now I have to buy a milling machine. I hear the problem with tree sections for shrinking stumps. I have three outside "weathering", I just hope they aren't too weathered. If you want a thicker shot bag, get some moose hide. If you don't use hearing protection, I'ma gonna have to shout so you c'n hear me. YES! Make some "Mother Tuckers"! I think that they would be an awesome addition to your tool line!

    A helpful tip, usually the handle hole on a hammer is slightly tapered. So when you drive in the wedges, the head cant slide off.

    • @faroironandcustoms6577
      @faroironandcustoms6577 2 роки тому +6

      I was going to mention that, but also it is actually hourglass shaped. When a hammer is drifted, it is drifted with a taper from both sides of the eye.

    I think I'd like a mother tucker hammer depending on the cost and more importantly the shipping cost to the us. No lathe here but a U assemble or some assembly required kit would be right up my alley.

    Made pop in ends for similar hammers. A protruding ring machined around the insert like an o-ring and a matching groove in the steel body worked great after the bad ideas were sorted. Needed a relief in the plastic to allow the ring to compress before end swaps were possible but they did go in...once. Aluminium handle wasn't a great idea but the owner/designer/critic eventually seemed to enjoy ating on is bloody hammer.
    Yours is a nice one.
