- I need a planishing hammer to shape metal. In this video I build one from scratch. With the exception of some pipe fittings, I used material and off cuts that I already had in the shop.

What a beautiful machine! I like it when utubers show their mistakes, rather than trying to make it look like their perfect.
Nobody is perfect, so it's just fakery 😅
Love the Jingle Bells background music 😂
😂Just for a bit of fun
Grandpa handsome, thank you for the skill lesson. 1000👍
I think you are an inspiring, crazy, genius artist. I love that you used an air tool. Brilliant! 👍👍 Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
Thank you brother!
'UA-cam welding inspectors' !! lmfao😅
I've seen those built from pipe in all shapes and sizes but your foot pedal is on a whole new level of badass, that's pure genius, I love it,, awesome job on that whole thing and now I've gotta have one
Thanks man. Yeah, build one!🙂
I love your sense of humor and that you show us your mistakes.
We all make mistakes. At least you're not trying to hide it. You are a hell of a builder. Keep up the good job.
Thank you. If one has never made mistakes, one has probably built nothing!
As a professional industrial tool maker , I am today humbled , amazed and inspired ! An awesome machine ! Thanks for sharing !
Thank you very much Randy, that's quite a compliment!
Thanks for taking us along. Fun to see you out enjoying your creations
Terrific Diff, you really have a mechanical mind.
The coolest tool in that shop is you! Followed closely by that work table!! Another GREAT video Div! Aloha from Hawaii!
😅Thank you!
I am very glad that I came across your UA-cam channel! you have golden hands!
Thank you so much!
I’m a new 82 yrs and I’m a lot like you. I live in Dickson , Tn. I really enjoy making my own tools when needed. Keep on enjoying and doing what keeps us going!
Well done man!
At 5 minutes 19 seconds, my old buddy patrick must of been fabricating for you😅😅😅😅😅😅
20,000 subs now must be your shout for the beers now.
everyone loves that tee shirt.....
hey Diff, 19:58 serious? Jingle bells? allready? LOL just ended my summer vacation by one day.🎄🎸🎶
Hehe, early Christmas this year😂
Second time I have watched it completely.
"I need a little bambam in my life."
Same.
Of course one does get different kinds of bam bams...🤣
That turned out really nice! Love the home made foot pedal!! Pure genius!!
Thank you!🙂
Love it! Thank- you for this great project ...something anyone can build with materials commonly found in any shop.
Thank you Dif, for the encouraging words and the education. I have enjoyed the Hudson playlist. Sorry I spelt your name wrong.
Wow, John! Thank you very much! I appreciate the support. No worries about the name, it's a bit strange 😄
Great job. What a great tool to build and have in your shop. I really love how versatile it is.
Nice. Now you have "a blue lacquer one"...Got the Bam,Bam in your life to take out all the dings from the Pebbles...Thank you and Cheers.
😎👍🇺🇲
Truer words never spoken.
"No matter how big your shop is. It's never big enough."
I try to keep stuff mobile so I can shove it outside when I'm working on something.
Cheers brother 👊🍺
That for pedal was sweet
Hey man don't worry about what everybody else says, if it works for you then it's perfect!
I appreciate how you occasionally pretend to make mistakes so those of us who do mess up occasionally ourselves don't feel too bad about it and just fix whatever we did. Very nice looking tool, now I need one.😉
Oh it's not pretend brother! No fakery here, it's for real. Everybody makes mistakes occasionally. 🙂
@ratrodsafrica I realize that, like it because you don't edit out things we all do from time to time. It's more enjoyable that way, to me anyway, because it's more real.👍
One hell of a builder , that is very nice . Build On Bro
Diff, mark my words; “YOUR CHANNEL IS GOING TO GROW “.
Thanks man. I'm just doing my stuff, what ever happens will happen 🙂 Definitely not gonna be doing ridiculous things just to get views. Like some...
This was a fantastic video! Not only do you build bad assed cars, you build bad assed tools to build those bad assed cars!
Thank you!
Nice work my friend. 2 thumbs up from Texas 👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey Diff, I never thought of using a air chisel the way you just have. Hmmm? I have all sorts of ideas now!😊 Thanks from North America!!
Awsome! Let that imagination run wild😀
Oom Div! You are one artistic craftsman I tell you. Love your work, love your humor. Much thanks and one love for sharing. Stay cool! 👊🏿😎
Thanks man!
been watching you for a while and love the content, I owned a bodyshop restoring classic british cars for 30 years.
I got my dad back in the U.K with a 1964 2600 Alfa Romeo spider that he wants me to fix up, most of the rear end is missing and been looking at bead rollers etc and when i saw the price of these hammers i thought of using an air chisel, you just made a great tool my friend!..... and chance of showing the angles and lengths of the steel frame work so i could copy your amazing creation 🍻👍💪
I don't have a drawing, but guess I can go take some measurements and make one. Drop me an email at ratrods4africa@gmail.com
Thanks for many new ideas, I built one a few years ago when I made tanks and fenders for my chopper, now I see how I can improve my construction.
Thank you from Northern Sweden
Glad if it can help 🙂
An air chisel and a planishing hammer. Nice job Div. Be good and stay safe my friend. 👍 👍👍
Thanks, you too!
Diff, you’r a genius, great job
Thank you!
Beautiful and very handy tool. Thanks Div.
You are welcome 🙂
Lekker man. Search so long to find a channel from SA. Fellow South Africa having a channel. Lekker man lekker
Thanks boet. Ja, gotta show the rest of the world that we SA boykies can also build stuff😅
Amazing build and logic. Thanks Boet.
Now I think I'll build one.👍🇨🇦
Yes, please do!🙂
Lekka Div, great CAD drawing.
Dif, I was eagerly following on with your latest adventure as you are funny to listen to, as you abuse yourself when you make mistakes and admit when you stuff up in real time instead of editing out. That homemade foot pedal was a whole new level of genius and bush ingenuity brother, I hope UA-cam is paying enough to keep building more Rods. Hope you have many, many more healthy years creating in the Forest. Have a Lakka day and a very Lakka life my brother. Best wishes from Oztrailia. 👍👍👍
Thanks mate! Oztrailia...😂 I like that
Awesome BAM BAM uncle Div.
i love to watch ur clips.
Always learn something new.
Keep up the good work and ideas.
Thanks boet!
Slick DIY planishing hammer! You walked through that project no sweat!
Div that hammer turned out great hey. When your mind is set and focused you build anything inside that forest workshop. Lekka boet take care.
Thanks. Anyone with a set and focused mind can do it!🙂
i don't wear gloves either, i also like making my own tools and being in the serenity of my shop. thank u for taking the time to make the tool. film and edit this video for us.
A man after my own heart!🙂
A very nice jobb😊, when you did that mesure error, i was smileing! It was me in a nutchell! Know day i always dubbel checking😅. Old man with alzaimer light 😂. Tanks 👍
I too have built a few hot rods and do my own fabrication. That said, I can really appreciate what you have built and the quality you achieved. Great video man 👍
Thanks
What a hoot Div. Really enjoy your presentation. Thanks man.
Glad you enjoyed it!🙂
Looks great, certainly strong enough, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones, have a Lekka one
Turned out awesome. Good job on the foot pedal.
Thanks!🙂
Real nice job on the plannishing hammer, I use mine all the time.
Thanks
Excellent build! Never thought of making one of those, but now maybe I can with the exception of the lathed parts I’m sure the rest is very doable. Thanks for the inspiration. 👍👌
Thank you! Yes, build one! You can probably buy the dies easy if you live in the States.
Love watching another lefty at work and who has a damn good sense of Humour.... Damn good music as well so I have subscribed, Australia watching Diff
Thanks for the sub lefty mate!🙂 And you drive on the left side of the road as well. It can't get better than that!😂
This is my new favorite fab channel. Thanks so much for sharing your skills, knowledge and experience. Appreciate ya
Wow, thank you!
Nice job Div, I like the idea of it being portable so it could be used in situ on a guard or roof panel.... Lekka for sure. Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg
Thanks for including your mistakes. We all make them but some want to pretend it never happens.
No mistakes means fakery! 🙂 Everyone makes them, the value and learning curve lies in how you recover from them!
Awesome Diff
Bill Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks mate!
Hey from Mississippi brother 👋👋👋
Your. mistakes shows me that you are human. Thinking through the problem on the fly. You are amazing. Reminds me of my Uncle Lloyd whom I call Pop...he was like a welding god. You are that caliber of a welder. Pop was the only Rat Rod builder on my Island until I grew up and built 2 Rat Rod Wreckers JYD and JYD II.
Aloha from Hawai'i,
Mama Leigh😮
Thanks Mama Leigh! 😊
Primer and paint.. Oh my god that's high end.... Nice video.
😅 Yes, I don't know what happened there 😂
Mate, very informative, funny and well made (the planisher ) video wernt bad either. Love the UA-cam welding inspector bit😂
Will be making one myself, cheaper than buying one and you know it ain't going to fall apart in a couple of weeks. Cheers Man!
Thanks 👍
Great fabrication and design
👍😊yes you hammered that out!!
😅
You made it very strong !!!!!!!
I was always Leary of someone with new tools, “suspicious”⚡️
Well, I have a new tool now, so are you leary of me too?😅
Another great tool made by diff great video buddy 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Bam bam OG .... love it!
Thanks fellow member of the International OG Society!😅
Div, congrats on reaching 20,000 plus subscribers. Plus another great Vlog!
Thank you!
Hey Div,
I really enjoy watching you build tool to help you build Rat Rods.
I am the same way, I enjoy refurbishing an old tool as well as custom building something I could go buy.
Hanging something on the wall or having a stand for it, you still get to see it and enjoy again the pride that you made it !
Good video man.
Work Safe, Be Well
Enjoy Life
Thanks! Yes, the satisfaction of making your own tools can't be bought 🙂
Great work. We shared this video on our homemade tool forum this week 😎
Thanks!
Great video Div! Thank you!🍺
My pleasure!🙂
That is muc;h better than store bought!
I like to think so too 🙂
Golden hands man
Must have been looking in my window , looks alot like the one I built
Impressive your unstoppable great work.
Great job on bam bam
Hervorragend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Grüße aus Österreich
Thanks!
Nice, how about a clevis pin for the top bolt of the turnbuckle, forming a quick release for opening the throat larger if needed. Example, something has 6 inch edge around the thin material that needs planishing.
Hello, honestly, great job, love it, beautiful.👍👍🇧🇪
Thank you!
There is nothing like wisdom running the hands of makers!
Incredible are there no ends to your talents Diff
Very cool , very nice job ... I've always said a mans tools tells everything you need to know about him ..... I'm one of those guys who sharpens his Vice grips , lol
😄 Thanks
You Are Wise Beyond your Years Diff, you never cease to Amaze with your Skillset & attention to Detail
LOL 😁 Believe it or not but right under the notification respectively title photo of your great BamBam was advertising for hearing aids! At least in my smartphone and in Germany! 😁😁
Wow, what's the chances of that happening 😂
@@ratrodsafrica
I don't know but it was a funny coincidence.
Thanks for replying and especially for giving a heart to my comment. I totally appreciate both very much.
Sincerely yours.
Fekkkinn Awesome Build Diff
You make it look so Easy
Alright good job Mr. D I like that this will come in very handy I myself could use this but till next time 👍👍👍👍👍👍
i really like your channel i learn a lot keep them coming Bill from USA
Thank you
Morning diff from NZ😊
Brilliant, great engineering 👍
They crazy thing about the current world is that i could buy an entire planishing hammer with all the trimmings for LESS money than i’d have to pay for a local machinist to make JUST one or two of those dies you got made.
What a beautiful thing you built. But that is just par for your course! Thanks as always for letting us hang out and watch. Can’t waIt to watch you using it!! 😊👍👍
No man, can't be! A cheap planishing hammer goes for around $250 -300, the better ones $1000 upwards. What kind of rates are they charging? I'm sure you'd be able to buy a set of dies online in your part of the world
@@ratrodsafrica cheap hammer with three dies is about $220. To get three dies made from scratch could easily be more in NY USA. A machine shop here would likely charge a rate that would make your head explode. Mine head explodes here all the time! 😊😆. Unless it comes from China, nobody here can afford ANYTHING! 🤮
@aceadman wow! Excluding the cost of the material, I paid ZAR 450, about $25 for the machining of 5 dies
Div, so glad I found this! Really enjoyed watching it. Mooibly.
Dankie boet. Bly jy het geniet
Very nice in all aspects
Another fine video my friend!
Better than the one I bought 😢
A damned good grinder and a pot of paint,
makes me the great welder...
that I ain't.
Welcome to the club!
I'm an honorary member of the club 😅
That is super cool man 👍
Yay, great job, this tool will serve you well and probably another couple of generations.👍
