I sell at a craft fair in Oregon. Years ago, after the film came out l saw it twice. Several months later a guy came by with his buddy and talked about my work. I mentioned he reminded me of someone but l couldn’t remember who. He grinned, gave a burbling, idiotic giggle and walked away. About 20 minutes later l realized l’d been chatting with Tom Hulce. That giggle is the last sound heard in the movie.
I love Mozart and music seemed to be in his blood. Although I liked the movie, the Salieri story was way overdone and not really true. Salieri was accused by some of poisoning Mozart but it was shown to be false. The accusations, while limited, really bothered Salieri later in life. I have played Mozart’s music on the piano most of my life, and it’s purity and range amazes me. His father probably shortened his life by dragging him all over Europe in bad weather and Mozart often became sick. His early death really bothered me as a kid since I loved his music so much. Mozart 35, Chopin 39, Schubert 31, Mendelssohn 38….Nobody ever said that life was fair.
Don't know much about salieri but the movie makes him look like an insanely jealous human, but I totally agree with you about his father dragging him all over Europe in non heated carriages to show off his prodigal son, poor kid got sick a lot and he never had a normal childhood because of the skill that he was born with
@themacabrekid I play other music as well. Scott Joplin was also a favorite, especially with friends. Simon and Garfunkle (sp?), plus other more modern music. I downloaded music of many types from online publishers. They can be downloaded immediately. cheers
It’s a movie, they are creating drama. Salieri was a contemporary, that’s mostly what was going on. Did he harbor jealousy of Mozart? Likely, a modern comparison can be made between Michael Kamen and John Williams or something. As popular as John Williams, perhaps not. But a good composer in his own right
Oh wonderful! such memories....when my son was still young enough that I had to bathe him, I would play this opera...and after the long overture, when the singing started.....he would sing out, right on cue..."cinque, venti, trenta"... etc....love it...he now has more guitars/ basses then I have fingers n toes, plus at least 3 keyboards, and drums, and composes his own stuff. I like to think that those early days had some influence on him, plus...being a teacher myself, I've read/ learned how music can influence a child's learning in a very positive way. Thank you!

*FUN FACT:* This music was originally written for the 1983 movie _Trading Places_ starring Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy. It was so well-received that when _Amadeus_ was released the following year-in 1984-Director Milos Forman made some hasty reshoots and post-production edits to insert _Le Nozze di Figaro_ into this film and (fictionally) credit the music to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The actual music that Mozart composes in the film which stirred up the Emperor _vis-a-vis_ its political themes was a lesser known _opera buffa_ that he had written called _Rock me Amadeus_ .
