Man that Valentine's Day story is bull. :( Painting the concept of even *talking* to a boy as so impure that a casual interaction means you've given part of yourself away. Not to mention heteronormative as all hell. UGH

Yeah that valentines thing seems super skeevy, and younger me just would have hated it. I mean current me hates it, but younger me would probably have spent the whole day freaked out and hiding from everyone, just so I wouldn't get into a situation where boys could gang up on me or harass me.

  • @beemobile98

Wow... that valentine thing is something my school would do... during our adaptation camp we were given names of our schoolmates and we had to kiss them on a cheek to "kill" them and they would give you your next target

You might cringe a little now, but watching your style evolution made the 14-year-old me alive again. Your alternative looks were who I wanted to be at 14/15, but never had the guts or confidence to just do it (partly because I just wasn't confident at that time, but partly because I was always the star pupil at school and being a good student and a good girl, but one who looks like Avril Lavigne don't go together :P). It really is brave to be going through one's own fashion history, but as long as you were happy with it at the time, it can't be that bad. Looking forward to the Lolita style evolution video! :D x

I guess my evolution is like in the past I wore "normal" clothes so not really special, then I liked to wear vintage clothing and now I'm into fairy kei and decora ^^

  • @TheGothicFudgebunny
    @TheGothicFudgebunny 7 років тому +6

I went through a scene phase but wasn't very open about it as far as clothing because my friend said being scene was "her thing" and I couldn't wear the same stuff. Probably for the best.

When I was in middle school I went through a really odd phase of being a frumpy mess of oily slicked back hair and wearing xl t-shirts with like sweatpants. Then I went through my scene phase in 8th grade/high school. I didn't get into lolita/j-fash until my early twenties.

I'm trying to get from "lazy and incredibly unconfident (basically band t-shirts and jeans/shorts everyday)" to the styles I *actually* want to wear - cute/otome kei/lolita/vintage/etc. I just... don't have the confidence.

lol I loved this video a lot. Hearing MCR at the end nearly killed me XD It's always so interesting (and sometimes embarrassing) to look back at yourself and how you used to dress. I know I kind of went through a punk/scene phase when I was in the sixth grade.

  • @undetestable1

I went to a private Christian middle school for about two years and we did the heart thing too. Only ours were literally just construction paper cut into a heart shape on a piece of yarn. I COMPLETELY forgot about it until you told your story.I didn't care for the "game" at the time but looking back on it as adult now I think it was kinda cute and fun. Valentines day can be needlessly intense at that age so it cut back on all the drama. Also I cant say I had much of a style evolution. In high school I just wore the same hoodie everyday (brought a new one each year) and any ridiculous jeans I could find, the stupider the better. I'd say my current fashion aesthetic is a mix of Miss Frizzle (from the magic school bus) and a superhero.

I love your eye make-up in this! I went through almost as many phases as you but I never pulled any of them off! I went emo, then scene, then dressed in the plainest clothes I could find for a long time, then suddenly one day I wore dresses skirts and sparkles! You have blossomed and I'm sure you'll continue to do so!

This was a fun video, thank you. I think people forget that as humans, we are ever changing and things like fashion are expressions and creativity and fun, and not this like... static part of ourselves. We're not cartoon characters who wear the same thing every episode.
Also the hearts thing wtf, yeesh.

Honestly, I think the School was forcing something vary immature, I mean come on you're practically forcing people who could be complet strangers to each other to "give them your heart." and what about the people who were homosexual, and why only the girls!!!

Second: OMG you remind me of my middle/high school days. I think a lot of people our age grew up, going through these same phases. I chopped off my hair in high school, when I was obsessed over Visual Kei bands.

I enjoyed this too much man! I am living for your high school scene looks.
I had a Jeri Curl through middle and high school but I was also very much scene influenced/ scene adjacent thanks to MySpace and various high school friends. Yes, I was a messy child.
I also like that we graduated in the same month and that we're the same age.

  • @candiirabbit
    @candiirabbit 5 років тому +1

Wow! You always were rather experimental! This is really cool to see.
Growing up I never had fancy clothes or anything really abnormal. Lots of hand-me-downs sort of clothes. xP I was also VERY SHY and dealing with bad social anxiety so I didn't want to stand out and wanted to hide whenever I was in public. I always for such a long time admired the girls who got such pretty dresses and loved a more dressy and old-fashioned style. I never actually asked my parents for anything like that though because when we actually went clothes shopping it was for the essentials, but I did pick out when I could some girly, lacey detailed ones. I also wanted to fit in with what few friends I had by being more of a tom boy. In high school I finally, finally got a few pretty sundresses and a blouse and was able to express more of my girly side. At this time I had known about some J-fashion and really liked mori-kei and lolita. I knew I didn't have anything in my wardrobe to use for lolita but I still wanted to dress cute, so I mostly dressed in mori-kei when I could and admired lolita from afar, while incorporating inspiration from fairy-kei, Larme, mori-kei, natural-kei, and otome which is much easier to afford and find for me.
Only very recently have I gotten a petticoat and a lolita dress, a blouse, and made some skirts. So after all these years I can finally wear some lolita. I'm so happy that lolita has become much more accessible and affordable over the years so that I can finally wear it. It's so great to see all the new designers and styles too.
    I love watching your videos.

wow that heart thing is super fucked up, kinda reminds me in my high school we had this "battle of the sexes" where it was like a pep rally/assembly that was all about boys vs girls and it was just so annoying, all day the boys would get super into it and they always won and it was pretty much just bullshit, not as bad as that heart thing tho. but that my chem at the end

I think my many years of trying to be a Scene kid really fucked up my fashion sense... But it was also very fun because you got to experiment a lot more than people who were "Normal" clothes. When you already dressed weird but was easier to transition into another weird look.

My style fluctuated so much. I was really into heavy metal when I was younger so I had a lot of oversized black band shirts and baggy tripp pants with chains. Then I fell into the punk and scene groups during middle school. Come High school I was weeaboo trash and self proclaimed kandi kid. I wore a lot of decora, kigurumi, cat ears, bad cosplay, and 90s rave gear. I dyed my hair like every month or so and went through the rainbow. This is also when I got into Lolita fashion. I graduated early my Senior year and spent the 6 months between my graduation and the real graduation losing weight. I dropped 70 pounds, dyed my hair blonde, and showed up to prom looking like a Barbie. My college years were a haze of gypsy/boho/hippie looks. I then joined AmeriCorps and decided I only wanted short pixie hair, cargo pants, and tank tops. The two years after that were spent backpacking so I kind of just lost interest in fashion and had a very minimal wardrobe. Currently I'm really into Lolita, multifunctional clothes, and crop tops. :)

I wore uniform all my school life and wore my sisters clothes a lot otherwise so I knew nothing about personal style until I went to university where I could start to experiment. Even in 6th form I had almost nothing nice to wear and didn't know what to wear. Once at uni I could use my meagre paycheck for charity shop shopping. Even then it wasn't much of an experiment compares to yours but it was my personal revolution. I started wearing so many dresses and girly things and the one thing that's never changed is my love for retro styling. I just wear it in a different way now, more causal, more trousers and more mixing and matching instead of full on trying to be vintage. It was a later road for me than most people I know but better late than never

I never really went through any fashion fads i always more focused on my grades (I know nerd), all through school i apperiated fashions, as i did textiles and fashion design, my final projects were based on Harajuku fashion and i also really like 1940s-50s style but as a gender confused 'female' teenagers i never knew what to wear lol. I stuck with skinny jeans and graphic tshirts and band shirts. Now in my twentys i wear the same thing mixed with suits and such. I never felt i had the petite cute body type for Lolita i loved looking at it but when ever i tried something on it just looked wrong so i didn't get into it.
Great video it was lovely seeing the stages you went through

When I started high school as a freshman I was transitioning from a "swag" California kind of look. Once I moved from California to Idaho, I saw a lot of the same thing and I wanted to be different, but I didn't know how different. I wore bright pinks, weird green colors, and hideous hairstyles. Once sophomore year came around I went into the scene phase, the scene phase that's bleached red hair and dark black emo kind of style. Well, that soon changed in the junior year. I have always loved anime since I was a kid, so I started to wear circle lenses and wigs to school. I wore pastel goth sweaters or kigurumis. I got kicked out of school once for wearing all white circle lenses.
Then everyone started wearing circle lenses, it became a trend. I hated "preppy" trends, so once i stopped wearing circle lenses, everyone did too. This is where my style got lost. I want to be pastel goth like, but I love to nuu goth style, I just can't afford it. I want to wear circle lenses again and become more mature now that I am a senior. I just don't have a job. i live in a small ton, so no one will hire anybody unless they are friends with them., and if you have a weird style they won't hire you. Does anybody have any recommendations of what I should do, or cheap online stores for nuu goth?

    My fashion evolution:
2006-2009: my mother dressed me because I was a baby
    2009-2014: I dressed insanely basic
2014: I became aware of harajuku fashion, and pretty much dressed as lacey, girly, and kawaii as possible without ever wearing any real name brands
2015: my worst year ever fashion-wise. I had long, greasy, dish water blonde hair and lived in a wife beater and booty shorts
2016: i chopped off all my hair and rocked a blonde and green pixie cut, usually wearing high waisted shorts and shirt with my favorite stuffed lamb on them (i made them at cvs pharmacy)
2017: i hair grew out into an undercut and i dyed it black. At this point i considered myself a goth. I usually wore black T shirts, black jeans or black shorts with fishnets.
2018: i shaved my head completely, a halfway through January and pretty much wore whatever the fuck i wanted. Now I'm rocking a red fauxhawk and bounce back and forth between kinderwhore and retro.

I can relate to having handmade halloween costumes and other cute clothing as a kid; it's so awesome~ For me it was my grandma who made everything. She loved making me dresses, so I think that's contributed to my lifelong love of a traditionally feminine style.
I can also relate to wearing uniforms (for me it was 8th grade on). We never had free dress days though. But we also never had anything like that weird heart thing so at least there's that (that totally is messed up, I agree). When we occasionally had events where I could wear what I wanted and be seen by my classmates, I loved getting dressed up. Luckily, wearing uniforms all the time didn't stunt my sense of style.
My embarrassing fashion days were when I only shopped at this place called Justice, which meant a lot of neon and peace signs at that time. I wore it into 7th grade, while everyone else was wearing Aeropostale, Hollister, and Abercrombie shirts. Midway through the year, my tastes matured a little bit (thankfully). I liked coordinating colors even then, so when I found lolita fashion several years later, I felt like it was meant for me~
My fashion evolution is pretty boring, I think; I didn't go through any crazy phases. But I'm really happy with my style now~

I've gone through about every western fashion there is (except country). I even had this point in my gothic phase where I only wore tutus. No shorts or normals skirts, only tutus. I also went through the rainbow puke of clothing phase and the prissy pink "legally blonde" type of fashion. I'm only now hitting the j-fashions like fairy kei and Lolita (mostly Lolita) but I'm pretty hyped to keep trying more styles!

My "style evolution" was pretty much kid clothes to really cowgirl-work-clothes to some kind of mish-mash of goth/emo stuff (unfortunately that hit when my mom bought me a bunch of clothes so even though I was done with that by the end of my sophomore year of high school my wardrobe was recovering from that into college cause I didn't buy clothes that often) then there was the recovery/slightly kitchy phase, and now my whole wardrobe is just kinda in the cute realm, whether it's a more classic vintage cute or lolita or more of a light fairy kei style.

Really surprised to learn I've been into lolita longer than you! Your choppy blonde/black hair was cute :)

One of my biggest regrets is not dressing crazier when I was a teenager... In middle school and the first two years of high school I wanted to dress goth/emo, but I was too self-conscious to try anything too out of the ordinary. It didn't help that I was in private school with uniforms and a dress code that didn't allow for anything too "edgy". I remember thinking to myself, "I hope nobody thinks I'm a slut for wearing black socks that have lace on them!" In my last two years in high school was when I finally started dressing weird and attempted decora and Lolita as much as I could. Pastels and hyper feminine fashion weren't terribly trendy in 2011-2012, so I only had a few "decora" outfits and three "Lolita inspired" dresses. I also got most of my accessories from Claire's and Hot Topic and wore glasses that didn't really suit me, so I looked like a huge dork lol.

I've spent this week just going through old videos and photos of myself, screaming and cringing over how I used to dress qq
My evolution were basically tomboy -> emo -> Scene-ish -> mix of streetashion and "normal" -> "kawaii"/streetfashion -> Idk what the heck I am atm haha!

Oh my gosh I had the most obnoxious emo phase haha. Mom wouldn't let me dye my hair black, but I got red streaks and grew out my bangs so I could drape them over one eye. Raccoon eyes, all black, MCR T-shirts, tons of chains and buckles...It was pretty bad lol. Then I went through a "lazy/depressed college student phase" where I just wore sweats or jeans. Then one day I literally just went out and spent a bunch of money on super girly clothes and had a super floofy/flowery phase. Then I got into fairy kei/decora/cult party, which is when I found your channel...And now I'm going in a more vintage direction, but I kind of stopped trying to put a label on it. A lot of my wardrobe is on the professional side because it has to be, but otherwise I just wear clothes I like, and that make me feel like "me" when I wear them.

I don’t really have a fashion style I followed, since my school required uniform I always wore that. And outside of school I just would wear what was comfortable to me.

as soon as i bought my own clothes pieces, i went.,.. oof.... hot topic colorful mall emo, xD among others. i found out lolita existed when i was in middle school and ALWAYS wanted to dress that way, but couldn't really accomplish it?? honestly couldn't accomplish emo or scene as I desired either LMAO but I sure did TRY. my colorful studded (and patterned!) belt collection was probably the most impressive part, as well as stripey-sleeves and SOCKS that i cut into sleeves LMAO

As a child I was a hippy (by choice, nothing to do with my parents!) and wore lots of rainbows and tie-dye. Then as a teenager I started to follow my mum's fashion style of goth and have been a goth ever since... in it's various forms (goth-loli, cyber goth etc.)

A short story of my style evolution: I kind of wanted to be a scene kid or maybe gothic when I was around 14, but was too scared to dress like that. I mean, everyone was a bit scene around 2008-2010, but I lived in a small town where most people were still pretty basic. So they would bully those kids who were ''too emo'' or had a different style 😳 Even in high school, I was terrified of standing out in any way, so I only wore basic clothes, like dark jeans and t-shirt. I remember the most radical thing I did back then was to start wearing a few hot pink shirts during the senior year, instead of always wearing black, navy, blue or white 😅 Now I regret that I didn't have the courage to experiment with my style until at uni when I got out the small town I'm from. But in the beginning of uni, I decided to change and ''become a new person'' 😅😂 I had a short phase of wearing preppy style, like blazers (very brave of the old me 😅), jeans and smart-looking ankle boots. Then, I got into kpop and started wearing clothes that were inspired by kpop idols and Korean street fashion. That made me feel cooler than ever and I started to care less about other people's opinions 😊 My style remained quite similar for 2-3 years, although I gradually started wearing more skirts and shirts that had ruffles or other cute details (but only occasionally). However, it was only about two years ago when I started wearing skirts or dresses everyday. My style became a lot more feminine and vintage-like for a while (a lot of midi skirts and flower patterns). I slowly started to wear more pastel pink, instead of hot pink which I wore at high school, as well as other light pastel colors. In the past year, my style has evolved more into the direction of lolita fashion, although I'm not really a lolita, at least not yet. I just enjoy wearing pastel colors, ruffles, lace and cute skirts, sometimes with knee high socks ❤️ I guess the closest label I could give to my style might be larme 🤔 I'm not sure where my style is headed, but I like to try out different things, alter clothes and try to coordinate colors and textures 😊 Even if some people IRL think I'm a bit old for a person who is only just getting into cute/pastel/lolita inspired style 🙄 But I only started properly experimenting with my style at 19, so I'm still searching for my own personal style at 24. I think I'm getting closer to finding what I like though 😊 I would like to try wearing a proper lolita dress someday to see how it feels, and yeah.. I do like to watch lolita related videos 😅 I hope my short style evolution story could inspire others as a reminder that it's never too late to try to find or change your style. Don't let anyone stop you from expressing yourself cause at the end of the day, what other people think is not nearly as important as what you feel good wearing 😃

I've had various styles growing up but they always fit the theme of "disappear in a crowd" except a short period about halfway through high school when I wore the biggest baggiest pants in the land. I'm not proud of it, but its a thing that happened. I liked that outtro A+ d(>.>d)
