Well done. The statue is of Queen Tassie Hangbe....the first Woman King of the Dahomey Kingdom and the founder of the Agojie military regiment. Other Woman Kings in West Africa include Queen Idia of the Benin Kingdom that is now Edo state in Nigeria and Okyenhene Nana Dokua of the Akyem kingdom in present day Ghana. Woman Kings also existed in Angola, Ethiopia, ancient Egypt. In Kenya I believe the closest we get is Mekatili wa Mwenza. Women ruled across Africa for centuries and led armies in battle. The current status quo is very much a legacy of colonialism and something that needs to be reversed ASAP.
