Why I'm Selling My Trek Slash?!

- I'm selling my Trek Slash and buying a budget enduro bike.
There's no shortage of high end bikes out there, and there's no shortage of UA-cam videos trying to help sell these bikes.
But it's time to stop 🛑
You see I fell into a trap when I bought my 2022 Trek Slash, carbon frame enduro bike, that I had plans on packing full of custom upgrades like a Fox 38 fork, Maxxis Tires w/ Cushcore inserts, MRP bash guard, WTB saddle… and the list was going to continue.
I even started working with my local bike shop and reviewing my high end Trek bikes and e-bikes and making videos on those.
It's time to stop the upgrade rat race for the latest gear you don't really need. And it's definitely time to stop making videos that sell you on that.
My New Budget Bike - Marin Alpine Trail 7

It's time to Get Stoked! Go Ride! Have Fun!
Thanks for the support!b - Спорт
Don’t sell, just don’t buy any other bike or upgrades for at least ten years. They’ll go by faster than you think. (When you sell, you’ll get so much less and the lifetime warranty is gone for you and the buyer.) Just ride what you have!
Totally get what you’re saying. I think for me it’s about shifting the channel and making videos on budget bikes. Hopefully that’s understandable.
Thank you for taking time to comment 👍🏻
Did you enjoy the Slash while you had it?
Just ride what you have for 10+ years?? No way... Better to switch every 2 years. That way there's still good value in the "old" bike. As soon as the bike becomes outdated in any way, the value plummets.
@@lonelymtbrider3369 you're right, I've got a trek rail which no doubt wil be obsolete in a couple of years. But at the end of the day it's a 150/160 beast that can do anything I need it to, I'm not sure I want to get ibto buying a new bike every couple of years
@@lonelymtbrider3369 Your logic is flawed.. The longer you have something the more value you get from it... It's why leasing a car is idiotic.. You never stop paying. The only reason to sell your bike is if you out grow it. If it no longer holds up to your new found ability. Even then, you can upgrade.. :)
I have a norco sight a3, absolutely loving it so far and yet to find its limits. Mad respect for selling your rig to take on a more relatable perspective for a lot of people, looking forward to seeing what you decide on!!
Thank you! Stoked for my budget enduro MTB
@@JaredHoff Just saw your best budget MTB video, That marin's gonna be great!
Hey brother, good to see another veteran showing the great benefits of MTB for issues related to service. I was in the Army myself and experienced a downslide after getting out. My family and mountain biking have really helped. There are some great veteran organizations like Ride it Out or the Dirt therapy project that help get vets on bikes. I myself have taken to racing, particularly Enduro. I love the competition and comraderie that comes with those events. I was actually looking at getting a 21 or newer slash 7 or 8 and that's what brought me here. I have a Marin mount vision 9 which is a great bike but has some adjustability issues for big boys. Keep up the good work and consider me a subscriber from now on!
Thank you bro! I have a guy that does the Ride it Out rides here and I need to make it to more of those. But I really do need to get into racing. There’s definitely something missing from my life since leaving the Army. Right now is a great time to find a deal on a ‘21 Slash.
Thanks for the awesome comment 👍🏻
Not a Veteran, but with hell lot of a stressful days - yes - I also ride 4Fun.
Point well taken. I spent much of the past year building a 2022 Trance 29 frameset with XO1, Fox Factory everything etc. I just finished upgrading a used Talon for my son with Amazon Chinese crank/bottom bracket, microshift advent x, suntour epixon fork and I find myself wanting to ride it as it is enough. Deep down I like value and function over having the best and under utilizing it.
Heck yeah! It’s all about what gets you stoked to go ride and have fun on the trails 👍🏻 Thanks for the awesome comment!
Your full of it Craig

Yeah your right, its easy to fall into a trap of just wanting the best and highest top of the line gear. After 12 years of cycling, i have come to realize where value is for me. Im a performance oriented type of guys, with the year i became able to identify what worth the money for me. Its all different for everyone. I started working 1 days a week in a shop, let me tell you it worth it =)
That shop discount would be nice. Hopefully I’ll find a budget bike that works for me 👍🏻
@@JaredHoff Why again are you selling the bike? What got you to that point? Just thought I'd ask, so I'd understand more about the bike. Thx!
I Cant Afford A Retail Bike .... And Wont Pay those Prices
I’m looking for a new bike and cannot decide whether to go with Radon Swoop AL with Factory components or Trek Slash 8 with lower spec. I know that Trek is a top tier bike when talking about their geometry but Radon on the other hand is very good priced. Can I get advice from some pros? I’ve been in mtb for a couple of years but this is my first time getting a fully so I don’t know much
@@JaredHoff get parts that have crash warranty that’s what I think the best way to go. I’m riding bikes for 11 years and tried different specs of bike and 100% you need to spend more to enjoy more
Personally, I don’t see these other channels selling stuff. I see them as showing me new stuff, trying it out and then giving me their thoughts.
I also fail to understand why you don’t keep your current bike, stop upgrading it, and do what you say - go ride, have fun
Totally get what you’re saying 👍🏻 I really enjoy making UA-cam videos and just want to start highlighting budget MTBs. It’s just the journey I’m on right now. But it’s definitely about getting out and riding/having fun 🤘🏻
With the issues people are having i get why theyre selling them. Get a canfield jedi and call it a day. Fit a 38 front fork if you want but i went ahead and out a 40 on mine.
Still doesn't explain why you getting rid of a completed bike . I living upgrades are never done but to each there own eventually just hafta be satisfied is what I've came up with . Great video and thank you
Thank you for taking time to comment 👍🏻
I think for me, it came down to the type of bikes I was reviewing and recommending to people watching these vids. I want to see how a budget enduro bike handles the type of riding I do. I’m definitely no Pro, but I ride hard enough to put a budget bike to the test. This is just the journey I’m on right now.
I would suggest the 2022 Marin Alpine Trail 7 - Enduro. Its 2,999 on bikes online rn. Whatever you get, i will be stoked to see ya shred it 🔥
That’s on the top of my list for sure 👍🏻
I have a 2021 Slash 9.8 XT and I’m smashing PRs up and down. I’m coming from a 2019 Trek Remedy. The revamped slash is the best all around ripper I’ve ever been on. I can’t get over how nimble and playful the bike is for a “big bike” it rides like a dream.
Totally agree with you. I still love my Slash. Just on a budget journey right now, and really having fun testing new parts.
I couldn’t agree more mate sounds like we’ve had the same path bike wise, I went from a 2019 remedy to the 21 9.8xt slash and it’s a dream
Have your slx breaks on the bike ?
Bought 2022 slash 9.8 xt last week and absolutely love every bit of it. I honestly i think its matter of opinion. Slash is the best bike ever owned and its an animal on all iinds of trails.
Stoked for you bro! This is definitely my opinion and trying to find the minimum I need to get stoked and go ride. Thank you for taking time to comment 👍🏻
Wow this was refreshingly different! You're right, it's a constant bombardment of buying the newest, the best, the top. I'm still thrilled with my 2020 XC $5k carbon bike. I see a friend buy the new $10k bike every year; he's nuts. At my level (weekend warrior riding for fun,) I have nobody to impress but my Strava times.
Well said bro 🤘🏻 exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve also started to realize the struggles selling a 6k bike that’s now only worth $3,800 apparently 🤦🏼♂️ talk about loosing value! Probably better to keep it 😂
I've been upgrading my old 26" aluminium hardtail that had a Gila suspension, and a shimano alivio 3x8.
My upgrades:
1st: Rock Sox Reba on the front 120mm;
2nd: KS LEV droper post with 100mm of travel;
3rd: 26" REVO wheels from Progress Cycle + Micro spline freehub;
4th: 26" Schwable tires nobby nic 2.25;
4th: Shimano M6100 4 piston brakes + RT66 brake disks;
5th: Shimano SLX 7100 groupset with 34 teeth in front (175mm) + (12s) 10-51 teeth on the back, plus XTR bottom bracket (BB93) and a XT M8100 chain;
6th: Ergon SM Pro Men saddle;
I can say that I really enjoy the way the bike flows as of now, despite evey one saying that I should just buy a new one and ditch my old "lady".
Heck yeah man 👍🏻 sounds like you got an amazing MTB. Definitely don’t ditch it. Got to keep that one for ever!
Giant Trance X has a great alloy option right around the 3k mark.
Heck yeah 👍🏻
I bought the 2022 Slash 8 in Miami Green and it literally is a beast up and down the trails . I've done a few things to it like XX1 rainbow cassette and chain . Did a 180mm air spring. Oil slick titanium break/stem /rotor kit by better bolts. And better bars . Purple sticker kit by silk Graphics. Best bike I've owned to date .
Awesome man. Stoked for you! That sounds like an amazing bike. I’m just trying to find a balance in my life and see if a budget bike can give me what I need in the trail.
@@JaredHoff I completely understand bro . I got the 8 witch I call the 8.9 lol because I'm not super into Carbon. Where I live in California our trails are a mix of super chunk and tech climb and some big hit DH . I really want to ride the Propane spindrift. Also wanted to say thank you for your service .
Commencal SX mullet frame with Marzocchi sus (air), Hunt wheels, Conti tyres, SLX groupset and brakes, my two pence.
Good luck getting some decent cash back on the sale. Seen many bikes going up for sale lately. Tough economy and going into winter…
For sure! Definitely hard times. Which is another reason why i want to start promoting budget bikes.
I got a K2 sidewinder a few months ago for 50$. Previous owner started a mullet conversion setup with a 27.5 fork and wheel.
I put a little over 250$ in parts and upgrades sofar and it's done really well.
It's my first full suspension bike and surprisingly comfortable on the trails, but I had a rear flat tire that I didn't even notice until I was back on pavement.
It's got a standard coil for the rear aswell and a sr suntour xct in the front.
From what I've been able to find out about the bike, the previous owner gave me a great deal.
Heck yeah man! That’s a great budget build 👍🏻
interested to see what you end up with. I purchased my first mountain bike and it was a trek slash at $3700 ish. I always wanted a bike but was always turned off by prices and I didn't see too many decent that didn't need immediate upgrades under $3500 range. happy with my bike though as it was ready for black diamonds out of the box.
It’s definitely hard to find an enduro bike under 3k. I’m sure the one I find will need to be upgraded. But I think it will be interesting to see what budget components can handle these days.
I love the message here, on the other side of the coin I started riding MTB in 2022 and built up a $50 Motobecane 26ER asbudget as I possibly could (over $700 when all said and done)… I learned a lot and I wouldn’t suggest doing it the way I did haha, BUT I think there are plenty of bikes out there that are available for good prices and it is not necessary to fall into the trap of “Latest Greatest” especially when starting out. My suggestion for beginners is to go get fitted at a LBS, and test ride some things and then either save up, consider what type of trails are nearest you and look online for used bikes, For the amount I put into my Motobecane which does not fit me, I could have had a large number of used bikes that would have worked way better. I’ll be posting some vids on that in the near future. Cheers!
Thanks for the awesome comment! I’ll have to check out that bike and those future vids. I definitely agree that you can find a great bike the way you said 👍🏻
Appreciate you saying that $3k might not be cheap for everyone. That kinda thing needs saying.
For sure! That’s how ridiculous the MTB market is. $3,000 is a lot of money. But it just barely gets you a full suspension enduro MTB 🤦🏼♂️
$3000-$4000 seems to be the sweet spot for a very capable and properly spec'd "budget" enduro bike in our current market. Brands like: Specialized, Canyon, Propain, Transition, Commencal, Trek; all have very good options in their fleets. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with. Great content!
Thank you! If you spend over 3,000 is definitely easier to get a great MTB. I ended up getting the Marin Alpine Trail 7 with was a smidge under 3k.
I feel your brother, just don’t ever stop
Riding. Always great content 🤙🏾🙏🏽🫡
Thank you bro! 🤙🏻 🫡
I am a subscriber to your channel and I enjoy your videos and your opinions, all of us who ride bikes always hope to have our dream bike, the new age is giving way to trying to have the best regardless of the cost, I have a STevo 2020 and I love it My bike, despite having bought it new, specialized, made a good rebate and I ended up paying from 36 hundred to 24 hundred before the pandemic, currently I just bought a 22 gtforce pro for 39 hundred, I think that up to that point to be a new one, it is still in my price range, electric until my body says you can't climb that trail on your own at that moment I'll think of one, or I'll dedicate myself only to the mtb park, I hope you continue making good videos and see you on the hill
Thank you so much for the awesome comment. GT Force is an awesome MTB 👍🏻 Thank you for being a subscriber
The whole cycling industry is getting out of control interms of pricing and all the new gear. I got the slash 7 as I didn’t want to spend too much but still have a decent bike that I could upgrade as I got better. I was originally looking at the entry level Vitus bikes as they are a good price.
Stoked for you! Slash 7 is a good bike 👍🏻
Yeah, having the latest and greatest isn't required and most of us aren't good enough to make use of it anyways. I started off with a $1700 hardtail. Quality frame, entry level parts. As things wore out, broke or I was able, I upgraded with solid, high performing but great value parts. 3 years later, I have a really capable, enduro certified, sub 30 lb hardtail that manages to turn heads despite having no carbon or kashima. My next bike is going to be a 3k long travel FS with solid spec that will over time, become something truly special.
Heck yeah! That’s what it’s all about. I just ordered the Marin Alpine Trail 7
Love the honesty. After watching your video I ended up getting the Canyon Spectral 29 for $2,800. As you said it’s a a do it all bike to have fun on.
That’s an amazing bike! Stoked for you 👍
For 3000$ you should buy a Specialized status 160! I have one and it's buckets of fun! totally recommend it!
That was definitely on the top of my list 👍🏻
Your not wrong when I started MTB everyone was pointing me in the 9000 range if I wanted a good beginner bike.
So sad! I feel like you should be able to get a great MTB for 3k. We will have to see how my budget enduro bike rides.
you are one of few people who make sense. I have built my 2002 Specialized Enduro out of used parts as a short travel do everything machine in a budget under 300 euro. And am keeping up and even go faster that my german friends on their 2-6 thousand euro tubeless niners!
That’s awesome! Sounds like you got an amazing MTB. Stoked for you! Thank you for the comment 👍🏻
Thanks for your video bro. I’m excited for your next bike.
Thank you for the awesome comment!
thanks for the well and most importantly grounded opinion towards bike prices.. i can realy relate and also got tired of all the reviews showing the top end bikes already scraping on prices of cars.. thats just unrealistic for 90% of all MTB riders
For sure! I can’t wait to build my budget enduro bike. I went with the Marin Alpine Trail 7. Still cost about $3,000 though so a good chunk of change. But stoked to get it!
I just got a canyon al 5 it was a little over your budget but it’s been a great bike and no reason for someone like me to upgrade though I will over time also it’s super playful even though it’s a little heavy
Canyon Al 5 is a great bike. Stoked for you!
It's US$2,899 now!
I bought a demo 8 2012. Loads of fun🎉 comfortable and burns fat and keeps me fit. What more do you really need? Ok I need to change my ⚙ ratio😂 to more like Enduro type. $50 only....
Before I rode roadbikes had a budget bike fore like 6k still carbon bought it on sale. Got it down under 7kg. To buy a new under 7kg was like 100k😂😂😂😂 my favorite one. Also had bikes that cost way more..... not necessary. Had to switch bc of wear and tear damage on my body. Now I just need a soft bike as possible bc of my body. Buying old DH bikes from 2012😂👍
Ripmo af is a solid bike that I can’t recommend enough for a “budget” do everything big bike. Especially now that they’re all over for 25% off
Definitely a great sale on those bikes right now. Awesome 👍🏻
The like button is smashed. I'm always stoked and having the time of my life riding my bike 😂. Salute
Thank you bro! 👍🏻
The consumerism of it all can be tiring. On the other hand, that is how the bikes and components have evolved to the amazing machines they are today. As a guy whose first mtb was in 1990, trust me when I say that it was not always like it is today. To me, it’s about spending money on stuff that really matters to you as a rider, not just bc of some marketing or bc someone says it’s the latest and greatest. So go ride, figure out what’s important to you as a rider, what actually makes riding more fun, and then spend the money to get what you really want. And def stop thinking that a new bike or the most expensive component is somehow going to convert you into Greg Minnaar. For me, over the last 3 years I’ve built my full 27.5 Bronson into the machine that is perfect for me. And I plan to be on it for a long, long time, regardless of 29ers, 37ers or the return of 26 (all of which I assume will happen). Will be nice to see aa channel focusing on cheaper bikes that are more attainable for people. Maybe keep the Trek and you can do comparos to see where people should spend more money vs where they can save.
Totally agree with you! It’s all about getting the MTB that’s perfect for the riding you do. Stoked for you! I rode B1KER Robs 27.5 Bronson once and it was a blast.
Girlfriend just bought the Canyon Spectral AL5 and it’s an awesome bike I’m thinking of getting one myself
That’s a great bike 👍🏻 definitely one I’ve looked at.
The most budget that is doable would be getting used parts and learning to rebuild yourself, whether that is brakes, suspension bits, etc.... Those risks are definitely worth the rewards, especially in my case.
Definitely! I do some of my own maintenance, and plan on doing a lot more in the future BUT definitely never rebuilt any used parts. That would be a great way to get an amazing MTB for a budget price.
The best Walmart video was Skills With Phil on the Huffy Carnage bike. Epic video.
For sure! 👍🏻
FOMO and bike lust are powerful marketing tools for the industry. I usually watch just riding vids and no industry channels. I still ride my 2013 alloy Stumpjumper Elite 29. I live in friggin OH. You don't need a LLS bike for rolling terrain. In fact, my steeper HT makes my bike a better climber and way more nimble on tight trails. Also, it weighs 31 lbs. fully packed. More all mountain, but check out the Ripmo AF.
Heck yeah bro! It’s all about what gets you out riding and having fun 👍🏻
Amen brother ,nothing like a Marin rift zone 1
@@memyself2458 👍
Commencal Meta AM 29 or SX in the origin build. Got my AM for sub $3k (before tax), and the only thing I've had to do is get a dropper which I found a PNW for just $99. Current builds also give you better parts than what it says on the website. I was supposed to get entry level 2 piston shimano brakes but it came with pretty nice 4 piston TRP brakes at no extra cost. bottom bracket and cranks are also ethirteen instead of the listed entry level shimano set listed on the website specs. You can see in the photos that these already upgraded parts are on the bike. Much lower spec bike than my previous one (intense primer) but handles everything just as well if not better in the gnarly stuff.
Awesome 👍🏻 I had that bike on my top 5 budget bikes list. Stoked for you!
Like your style man , I always shake my head watching GMTB but especially EMTB when they're talking about £10000 E-bikes I built my full suspension Trek E bike for £1000 I'm disabled and can only use an e bike with a throttle. Like you said its about just getting out there.
Thank you for the awesome comment! Sounds like you got the perfect ride. It’s definitely all about getting out on the trails and having fun 👍🏻
Love the video, but I will say, part of the fun (at least for me) is upgrading the bike and trying out different gear, I've got a slash 9.7, I just added a SRAM AXS plus Maxxis Minnion tires, love it and cant wait to upgrade some more. Plus working on the bike is also relaxing
Totally get that. Definitely love upgrading my bike. But I’ve never actually owned a budget enduro bike, and I wanted to see if it could bring me as much fun on the trails
@@JaredHoff Totally understood. I started with a couple of budget hardtails, but on the Trail / Endure side, my first was a Specialized Stumpjumper, brought me LOTS of fun, but the itch to upgrade is always there as part of the fun I guess... lol.
For the value it’s hard to beat Marin Alpine Trail models. They are a little on the heavy side but you are also not going to break it on the fun stuff. The XR is a bit out the 3k budget but is a beast.
For sure! The Alpine Trail 7 is an amazing MTB at 3k
As far as a "budget" enduro bike would go, I'm looking at the Propain Tyree in their cheapest build, I think it's $3200.
That’s an awesome MTB 👍🏻 Stoked for you! Let’s go ride when you get it.
@@JaredHoff I will be back in K Falls tomorrow, but am only bringing a couple bikes I currently own. I need to sell my Intense to be able to buy the Propain
2015 - 2018 giant reign would be my pick for used budget enduro bike
For sure! I bet you could get a good deal on one of those too 👍🏻
I really like my specialized status for 3k. Decent suspension with super fun free ride geo.
I don’t feel like I am missing out on anything that isn’t electric 😂
For sure 👍🏻 the only thing about the Status is that it’s a mullet and I really like full 29ers
@@JaredHoff I have more of a relaxed more motocross riding style. It keeps it feeling super playful and you still get a good rollover speed.
In matched wheels a ibis or a canyon would probably be a good fit for you.
the propane tyee is about 3k in gbp idk in usd but it’s a beast of a bike
Heck yeah! That’s an awesome MTB 👍🏻
I like my 2018 commencal meta. Was about 2400 now the prices jumped a bit... Served me well for three years with not a whole lot of issues. I don't feel like I need to spend more since I ride everything that the more expensive bikes do just as well or better.
Awesome! I totally agree with you. I think there’s a point that you’re paying more for stuff you don’t “really” need. I’m not a pro rider and don’t split seconds on enduro race tracks. I’m just trying to get out and have fun 👍🏻
Canyon might be a shot atleast in Germany they are quite good price to performance Marin and polygon have some good bikes too
Definitely 👍🏻 I’ve looked at all three of those brands. They have some great options
I really like the premise of all of this; going from a top of the line dream bike to something way lower priced and objectively "not as good." Even though I have an uber expensive enduro bike, I grapple with the fact that maybe if I spent half the amount, I would still be enjoying the MTB experience just the same. Then again, there are so many factors involved in making a bike choice, number one being how much bike can one TRULY afford? I decided to go crazy and throw all my money into it because sometimes you just have to scoff at sensibility AND, at age 53, I ain't getting any younger; my "Black Diamond" physically capable years are running out quick. At this stage, I really want to soak in the experience and ride some trails that I never did before due to bike/equipment limitations. Of course, in a perfect world you could keep your Trek and just buy a 3K bike and go from there, but that may not be practical. Anyway, really looking forward to what you find...
Thank you for the awesome comment 👍🏻 I wish I could afford to keep the Slash, but stoked to get my budget MTB and see if it’s enough for the riding I do.
I've been riding this bike for 7 years now! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L It was a great bike the day I got it, put it together, and went on my first ride; more importantly it's an even better bike today. I've ridden trails, street, and skatepark all on this bike. I have replaced almost every part on the bike. Some stuff has broken: derailleurs, wheels, shifter. Everything else were upgrades. The only ramaing original parts are the frame, bottom bracket, and crank set. BB and cranks will be upgraded soon. The geometry isn't great but that is really the only draw back to how good a value this bike is. Even after all the money I've spent upgrading it's still a more affordable bike than I'd have bought from a proper bike shop, especially with full suspension. I've also learned a lot about bikes working on it over the years. It really is one of the best perchases I've ever made and hopefully it'll still be around for another 7 years.
I’d recommend a mullet or full 29er
im so exited to see what you have next
Thank you! I’m working on a video now going over the Top 5 budget bikes I am looking at, and will be deciding which bike to choose at the end of that video.
So excited to see what you choose
If you're doing it to make interesting content then all the power to you. If you're not doing it for that reason, then its foolish because you aren't going to get back much of the money you paid for it and put into it. You will miss the light frame, 38 forks and sophisticated and plush ride. Why not just build a budget enduro as a hobby and keep the Slash? I have my Slash 9.8 and have been building up a budget trail bike, which has been lots of fun. Its a trap to buy and sell unless you are flipping them (fixing cheap things and selling for more). Yeah, there's always going to be a "Flight Attendant - AXS - Diamond bejewelled" new bike, but i'd be happy with what you've got. Why not start Enduro racing with the slash. I'd watch that! I would like to start racing, maybe next year.. and i don't care if i'm the slowest guy on the hill..
Totally get what you’re saying. I just really want to go budget and see if a 3k MTB can be as much fun to ride. I wish I was sponsored or wealthy enough to keep the Slash, but I’ll probably have to sell it
BRO that person with the hammer in the background LOL. Tell me why i literally took my headphones off to look around my place Lmfao
🤦🏼♂️ It’s hard to find a place to shoot videos sometimes 😂 maybe one day I’ll have a Berm Peak setup 🤘🏻
Propain tyee, commencal clash, canyon spectral all on sale for 3k or under
Got to get those sales prices 👍🏻
I just bought a Trek Slash 8, it needs zero upgrades and it's fantastic.... I think this will be my forever bike. You don't need the latest, top of the line bike. Just go out, lose your mind and find your soul!
💯 PERCENT agree with you. Slash 8 is an amazing MTB. Stoked for you!
Thumbs up
Ayo when you said budget i thought bout them marlins, i currently have hybrid from trek dual sport and wanna go more performance but dont wanna break the bank, so what do u think
Marin Alpine Trail 7 👍🏻
I don't know man, I think you should keep the bike and ride it as much as you'd like to, while also focusing a little more on a budget bike build. Selling a bike you put money and work into because that's just too expensive for a lot of people isn't the way to go about it in my opinion, you don't even have to film while riding the Slash, just have fun on it off camera.
I hear ya! The Slash is definitely a great MTB. But I really am excited to see if a budget bike can handle the riding I do. Thanks for taking time to comment 👍🏻
The propain bikes are really good
I’ve seen those online but never rode one. They look pretty cool though 👍🏻
So what was your final decision and what you purchased? I just got the Nukeproof mega 297 and I love it.
That’s an awesome ride. I’ve got a marin alpine trail 7
I have tons of fun on my $150 dollar mountain bike I bought it at a yardsale!!!
Heck yeah 👍🏻 that’s what it’s all about!
Dude you do not need to go budget. Just do direct to consumer and get the best one. How about the Vitus Sommet CRX. $3000 will not get you a great bike but $5000 consumer direct can get you something amazing that you will not need to upgrade. If you are in the $3000 range the Ibis Ripmo AF is the way to go. The bike shop bikes are just way too expensive. I have been consumer direct only since 2014. Take your time and look on chain Reaction cycles and Jensen USA. A $3000 bike shop bike will be garbage but consumer may be great. Good luck dude you are a legend brother.🎉
Totally agree! I should have mentioned that I’d be looking at direct to consumer bikes.
Don't understand.. you're bikes fine and paid for ..why not just ride what you have..gota get those clicks though
@@Coors1974 sometimes certain bike designs just dont click for ya... its like Yeti bikes, They pedal great for what they are but the suspension on the way down.. leaves alot to be desired for a very expensive bike.
That's Right!! U don't need all those special features on your bike. I have a red Marlin 8 TREK MTB. I paid 1,300 and I have ride good black diamond trails with it. 🤟😎👍🍻
Heck yeah! That’s what it’s all about bro 👍🏻
I didn’t catch the part where you explain why you regret getting this bike
I regretted not getting a base model and upgrading that, which is what I’m doing with my current Fuel EX
Good channel 🥳 I’m buying my first full suspension bike
I’m stuck between 2022 YT Capra pro
Or 2022 Trek Slash
The YT I haven’t had a chance to ride one on line looks great
I have been on a Slash I like it
The YT looks so good 🤦🏻
Sidenote, I will be traveling with it in a Bike bag if that matters
What’s you advice?
I’ve rode both bikes and they are both amazing! YT is better bang for your buck, so I’d go with that.
I've had to cover my 2022 Trek Slash with a blanket while watching this...Not gonna hurt its feelings 😅😅😅
😂
I don't understand this video but It got me to watch. Thumbs up.
Oh man! Thank you for the thumbs up. Sorry if it was confusing.
Didn’t understand it either, that’s literally my dream bike
Canyon spectral is sweet!
For sure!
4 weeks ago I got a 2019 CF Warden 160/155 Less than 500km on it lady owned Never seen Black Till Me ..... 3500 $ I Live And Ride Vancouver The BIKES AWESOME . AWESOME Buy .
Heck yeah! Stoked for you! 👍🏻
Yes I Was The First to answer the Add the Next Person Was Waiting with a Deposit 😎I'd say it was 8.75/10 at Sale .
The Canyon Torque Al 5 is 2.799 euros here in europe, might want to take a look
Canyon is definitely a brand I’ve been looking at. Specifically the Spectral 29 AL 5
Agree. Use polygon like I do
Polygon is an awesome budget brand 👍🏻
Best video ive seen in a long time
Thanks 👍
I would be interested to see you get the trek slash 8 and see if Carbon and all those upgrades really matter. Compare apples to apples.
That would be an awesome point of view. I owned a Slash 8 for a couple days, but never did back-to-back laps to compare with the carbon model.
BUT I’m really excited to get my Marin Alpine Trail 7 and start reviewing that. It’s not Apple to apples, but it’s going to be interesting because my 9.7 Slash with the 170mm Fox 38 handles even the gnarliest bike park trails like nothing. So we will see what a 3k bike with no upgrades can handle.
What bike are you looking to buy?
I just got the Marin Alpine Trail 7
Your 2022 slash 9.7 looks different to mine and the online pictures. Yours doesn’t have any black around where the seatpost meets the top tube and where to top tube meets the head tube. Do you know why that is.
Carbon bikes all have slightly different layups and this bike looks different colors in the sun and shade. That’s the only reason I can think of.
@@JaredHoff I mean there’s 2 full sections on the bike that are painted black. I am in the uk so maybe they could be different? Wouldn’t make a lot of sense but seems weird they are different
You know I am just a little worried that Trek is becoming a road bike company. They completely stopped doing Project one MTB's it's only for roadies now...
Project one is so expensive though. Kind of seems like a roadie thing to do lol
may I suggest scott ransom 930 , that's by budget enduro bike
I’ll look into that 👍🏻 Thanks
You’re very lucky Sir to be blessed with such a bike it’s a dream bike don’t sell it the bike will surely be sad and lonely
Definitely was my dream bike. I have a thousand dollars of upgrades still planned for it. Then just had to deprioritize things.
what did u get.. new to ntb bought a roscoe but lookibg to get an additional bike full suspension and thats ny budget
@@fidel_cyclingaddicts5167 take a look at the Polygon Siskiu T9. Or maybe a T8. Great price and amazing bikes.
bikesonline-usa.sjv.io/5gEqmj
Polygon Siskiu N9 ? When restocked...
That’s definitely a budget enduro worth checking out.
“Things you don’t really need”. How do you define “need”? Do I “need” to ride budget garbage at my age? I think not.
I hear ya! This is just the journey I’m on right now. It’s all about what gets you stoked to go ride 👍🏻
Where are you going to find an Enduro bike for $3000 or less? I've never seen it.
There are a few 👍🏻 check out my latest vids if you’re interested
There’s always the specialized status 160 right at 3k.
That’s definitely on the list of budget bikes I’ve been looking at
Hey mate. If your PTSD is something you want to address medically look into the stellate ganglion blocks. Theyve been helping a lot of vets, just a thought.
Thank you! Much appreciated
Hit up Transition to see if you can get a industry deal. It’s great. You’ll be able to get a patrol in that price range.
I wish I had hookups like that. I’ll look into it. Thank you for the comment 👍🏻
but then you have a transition lol. those bikes are shockingly bad QC, The frames dont align, bolts to long, Suspension knocking. the Cable guides pull off the frames, the geo on all their bikes are weirdly unbalanced.
@@MrSupermugen Lol you’re hating on transition and canyon… just a hater I see. Transition bikes are fine and have way better warranty and customer service than Trek. This is coming from someone who works at a Trek dealer
@@neozeonsolid I had a transition and the paint was terrible. Giant chunks chipping off in a couple weeks.
You might want to get a commencal meta sx or a clash
I’ve definitely looked into those. Only issues with the meta is two piston brakes and NO dropper post.
Commencal Meta !!!!! They rip , you won’t be disappointed
The Meta AM is less than 3k, but not dropper post and 2-piston brakes. Definitely a bike I’ve looked at though 👍🏻
I don't get it.. so why did you want to sell a good bike?
I was just looking for different bikes to review for the channel. Trying out budget bikes and ultimately ended up going back to the Fuel EX, which I think will be my forever bike.
I’m continuing to do reviews on budget bikes though and hopefully that brings value to some people.
But why are you selling the bike??
(My english is to bud to understand the video)
Sorry for confusion 👍🏻
Does anyone know why the slash is only 29er? Kinda sucks I just say myself
It’s mullet convertible using the flip-chip
I'm actually thinking about getting the Slash 9.7 or the 8. Do you know how much it weighs by chance?
The 9.7 is a little lighter than the 8, but not by much and the 8 comes with better components. My bike went up in weight after I upgraded the fork to a Fox 38, but I don’t remember the weight.
35lbs or something like that. I really don’t pay attention to weight, and I even think a little weight makes a bike ride better downhill and at the bike park on bigger jumps.
Marin alpine trail
Good video Man...
Totally agree with you about all the high tech garbage on bikes these days
Marin Alpine Trail is definitely a bike I’ve been looking at 👍🏻 Thanks!
Polygon sisqu d7
Marin rift zone 29
Canyon
Giant trance 3
Some great budget options on that list for sure! 👍🏻
Canyon spectral 6 is so good value
For sure 👍🏻
how does the trek slash jib? i have a custom remedy now, but in the bikeparks im looking for something faster and bigger. But i allso like to do a lot of jibbing. Is the trek slash still agile while being better at desending? how much worse does it rotate in the air? (like 360s and stuff)
Love never done a 360 (on my bucket list). However, the Slash is super playful. I think you’d be happy.
@@JaredHoff thanks for the info! it really helps. im scared becouse my bike is really nice for tricking, but since i work i a bike shop i can get the bike with a lot of discount. So it is financially the smartest to sell the bikes pritty fast and buy a new one. how would you say the 29" ride compared to 27.5 in terms of bluntness feeling?
Ofcourse it will feel heavier, but how much? is it not to bad?
Just bought a roscoe 7 it’s nice
Heck yeah! That’s an amazing Hardtail. I wish I could afford more than one bike. I’d love to have a Hardtail like that 👍🏻
Got a Trek Slash 8 Gen 5 for 3k with zero regrets.
Heck yeah 👍 I still miss this bike 😞 lol
@@JaredHoff Trek is selling 2023s at end of season pricing. I don't work for Trek - so no conflict - and feel comfortable saying that's a sweet deal.
Sounds like you may be purchasing an Ibis Ripmo AF
The Ripmo is on sale right now. But I’ve kind of been looking at the Marin Alpine Trail 7
