Oh Steph, these are ‘simply’ beautiful! Love your color choices and I, too, see tracking as a big plus, adding a lovely texture. When I began weaving over 30 yrs ago and first experienced tracking I thought I had done something wrong, but now it’s a happy and welcome surprise after wet finishing!!

The weaving is gorgeous! and this might be something you did later but your hemmed edges would look crisper if you ironed them after, the whole towels look so good the hems not being pressed just stands out a lot for me.

Ha! It’s a great tip, and I agree! It’s a step that I didn’t think of, being so thrilled that I reach for the camera straight away after finishing the hems. I promise the next set will be crisply ironed for the final photos. Thank you!

Oh do I hear that! It took me years of sewing to accept that "Yes, things really do work/look better with copious use of the iron."

I was told that agitation in initial wash leads to tracking, so I wash in very hot water in sink, lay piece flat and not agitation, allow to cool to room temp. Then machine dry.
That being said, I LOVE the tracking on that towel!
Thank you! Yes I heard that agitation does it too, but it’s a mystery as to why it only happens sometimes. It’s like a little gift to reward hard work, which is what I like to think. 😀

Absolutely gorgeous weaving! I love all the variations of the shades of green and how it almost looks tweedy. I think the diagonal lines are also partially caused by our eyes wanting to find lines where they're suggested..?

Tracking happens mostly with cotton but it’s from multiple beating, if you’re beating the heddle 3-4 times per pick you get tracking more than if you do a single beat, the twist gets forced upwards causing the slack to overfill that little area between warp strings and you can see the difference in the angle of the twist if you beat once or multiple times, sort of causing an alignment which looks like twill
Thanks for sharing this insight - that's a really helpful explanation! I wonder though, why it only happens sometimes? As I beat the same every time. Do you have a theory at all? It would be great to know, as sometimes the tracking is defined and beautiful and sometimes all over the place, and sometimes not at all. It would be great to know how to encourage it when wanted.

Hello, and thank you! I’m unsure if you are asking whether you can make them yourself before Xmas, or asking me to make some for you, so I will answer both 😁. You could definitely make quite a few before Xmas. They would take a day to make 2 if you had no other commitments. And, unfortunately I don’t do commissions due to time constraints. I work full time, single mum to 3 and this channel takes all my free time. I make for family members mostly. I must say tho, that I am so very flattered !!💕

Hello! I just worked it out for you. ~980 yards or ~897 metres in total. There is twice as much Taupe as Ivory so to split between colours accordingly. Hope this helps!

Hi Steph -thanks for sharing this video. Your towels worked out absolutely gorgeous. I’ve also had tracking on some of my woven cloth which I absolutely love. It just adds that extra little bit of detail into the cloth that you didn’t even really have to try to do. It’s interesting that you’ve noticed it’s usually with the 10dent reed. I’ll need to pay more attention to that in future weaving projects.
I’m wondering if you can tell me where you got that warping pegboard from? It’s so good because it spreads out the warp so evenly. I use two to 4 pegs but it’s not as good as this and I’d love to get one. I’m in Pomona in Queensland so maybe I can find one somewhere close by? Thanks! Kylie

Both! Haha. I’m loving the drape of the towels with the 10 dent, and using the 10 dent means it’s less yarn so more cost efficient, but still wondering if they will last as long?. Time will tell. Thank you!
I haven’t ever weaved anything. I am curious how many hours it takes to weave a towel? I am tempted to start a new hobby.

Love these. I have a 16” rigid heddle, I should be able to make this work for my loom, just a smaller towel, right? Any suggestions?
Hello! Yes, this will work, just a smaller towel. When I started, I wove everything on a 40cm sampleit loom (16inch). Size of towels is always jus5 a personal preference. I would warp close to the full width, and up to you with the length. Good luck!
Beautiful! How do you keep track of your yarns after you remove the labels? I've tried sticking them back on the roll after I warp with them, but chances are I'll find it on the floor later and be lost.
Great question. Simple answer is memory. I have used Maurice Brassard for so long that I usually know the colours. Sometimes I stuff up and buy a colour I already have! I agree The stickers don’t last. I used to try to roll them up and tuck them into the end but they fall off.

Just a couple of questions, the item you used at the end of the table to loop the yarn on, what is this called and where would I be able to purchase in Australia - it seems a lot better than just using a single warping peg? Wonderful!, how exciting! First, I use a repurposed coat rack instead of a peg! (From Bunnings 😊) and the software I use is IWeaveit for iPad. I have a video of how to use this software too, so watch it and let me know how you go. Good luck! And welcome to Weaving!

The yarn holder is something I snatched up at my local haberdashery. (Spotlight, if you are in Australia 🇦🇺) I think it’s actually meant to be a ribbon holder! But i immediately saw it as a perfect yarn holder !

Lovely! Have you tried twining your edges for start and finish? Did you stabilize your ends before wet finishing? I find mine comes apart if I don't stabilize it.
Hello! I don’t do twining on a rigid heddle, but I do for my wall hangings! The knots and scrap yarn at the beginning and end are all I do to stabilise. Thank you!
