Hey guys....this was way too cool ...different style of acting (very slow exchanges) lol but still pure entertainment and amazing fight combinations. These martial artists are all extremely talented, love Frank Dux's story in this. You guys be the judge if the story is fabricated or real, but I'd rather let it sit in my mind that some cool guy brought this culture of mixed martial arts into the limelight with this film which definitely inspired me to just learn the reverse roundhouse kick, and jump kick moves. Martial arts for me is about all life skills learned through movement and patterns, the athleticism/flexibility gained is always a huge plus, but the discipline gained is key.

Bloodsport is One of the most Influential Martial Arts movie ever!

This is a good movie! It's just too bad that it was created by a fraud!
I was lucky enough to have grown up in the 80's with awesome films like this. Yes, I was there. To those of you who missed out, you have no idea...
I'm from the UK 🇬🇧 and this film has been a part of my life! Its all about love and honour.
I'm from Sweden 🇸🇪 Used to watch this with my father and brother in the 90's. 😊
"Bricks dont hit back" A lot of Bolo's( Chong Li) lines are similar to Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon, which Bolo also appeared in. The Big Boss(1971) The Way Of The Dragon( aka return of the dragon, 1972) Fists of Fury( aka The Chinese Connection, 1972) and Enter The Dragon(1973) great Bruce Lee movies.
If you are a doctor, Loomis, then show me the Dim Mak 👊
This is one of (if not all-time) favourite martial arts movie; love the move, the soundtrack is awesome - 'Fight to Survive' by Stan Bush is a brilliant track, as well as 'On My Own Alone Tonight' & 'Steal the Night'.
Chong Li is a real mean s.o.b. 😁
If you havent seen I highly recommend "Ninja in the dragons den", "Drunken Master" and of course "Karate Tiger 1 - No retreat, no surrender (English title)".
Chong li would have made a brilliant incredible hulk. Like Lou ferrigno did
Every man wanted to be Van Damme at one point. Lol. Dude was motivational for me to get into shape, was able to do the splits when I was in my late teens.
Bro I still want to be prime Van Damme lol, but those days are long gone haha
Please please do "Best of the Best" starring James Earl Jones, Eric Roberts and Phillip Rhee.....its not just mindless action movie, the story is really good and touching, something that is rare in many "action" movie
Great Tae Kwon Do movie!
A team is not a team, if you don't give a damn about one another
Ride 'em like a toilet seat, Tommy!
To save a life in defeat is to earn victory and honor within
Pop it Tommy....POP IT!!!
34:50 "What did he do, did he crack his back?" In a deleted bit of footage after the sumo guy broke his opponent's back with a bear hug he reached down and ripped his nose right off of his face. The scene makes more sense when you consider that bit of extra brutality, because it then cuts to Janice as she makes a horrified expression. In the next shot when sumo guy raises his hands in victory you can see that his right hand is bloodied from disfiguring his opponent. Just a little extra trivia from one of my favorite martial arts flicks.
I was today years old when I learned this. Thank you for sharing.
Quick note. Chong Li is played well known Chinese character actor Bolo Yeung. Awesome martial artist.
also, one of the most wholesome guys ever.
The fighter that gets his leg broken by Chong Li would go on to be the main villain in another JCVD movie Kickboxer. The character he played in that movie is Tong Po.
That would be one JCVD's best friends from their youth, Michael Qissi. He was also in Lionheart
The favourite movie in my childhood) many boys in 90ies after this film get started martial arts in local schools including me) Interesting fact that Bolo Yeung (Chong Li) and Jean Claude Van Damme became good friends in the real life after this film till ours days. Van Damme is 62 y.o. now and Bolo is 77 y.o. and they still have great friendship:)
He's not a kickboxer, he's a muy thai fighter. One of the most brutal styles on the planet!!!
To be fair, Muay Thai is widely known as "Thai kickboxing", in the US at least.
Yeah they look vicious when you see them training
No he is a kick boxer , he didn't learn Muay thai he learned dutch kickboxing which is Abit different
30:20 If she went to bed with him the 2nd day she knew him you have to wonder how many other stories she's chased that way 😂 Poor Frank's gonna get back to the base with some itching and burning
And some poor schmuck she had friendzoned met her at the airport (holding a single rose), only to get nothing out of his (admittedly sad) efforts.
Always great when the reactor knows martial arts. Had a lot of fun with this reaction, thank you :D
So cool to hear you say you studied Isshin-Ryu. I did also for two years in High School, way back around 1972. I was just starting to get somewhere with it in 1973 when Bruce Lee passed on and then Enter the Dragon came out. Wow, 50 years ago now. Keep up the nice reaction videos.
Awesome! Studied and trained in it as well!
Memories of me and best mate trying to do reverse round house kicks in the living room after watching this film for the 1000th time! Late 80s early 90s, what a time 😂
I started training in Shotokan Karate for a few years when I was 15.. only got to 9th Kyu green belt before i discovered cars and girls 😂 (my son graded 3rd Kyu brown belt)
Anyway.. bloody awesome movie, and that soundtrack 👌🏼
You should try driving blindfolded like jcvd 🤣
Oh yeah when I was young I watched rocky two and got really inspired to train. It lasted about three minutes 🤣
"Aren't you a little young for full-contact?"
"Aren't you a little old for videogames?"
Fun Fact: Paulo Tocha is a real-life Muay Thai champion.
Location Location Fact: This is one of the few films featuring scenes filmed inside Kowloon Walled City before its destruction.
MK Connection Fact: Midway's hit videogame, Mortal Kombat (1992), took huge inspiration from the film and even used a parody of Jean-Claude Van Damme for the character Johnny Cage, who has a similar costume, back story and a familiar split punch. According to game creator John Tobias, they wanted to make a "gritty" game based on the film.
Historical Fact: The movie was touted as a true story, but over the years, doubts have arisen about its veracity. Most martial-arts enthusiasts view Frank Dux's accounts of competing in secret tournaments as complete fiction, along with his claims he was an undercover CIA operative. Some have pointed out that nobody else has come forward to confirm his story about competing in secret tournaments, or told their own version. It is now generally accepted that Dux lied his way into Hollywood, and that he has likely never won or even competed in a single martial arts tournament. Records obtained through the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) show he was only in the US Marine Corps Reserve, and was never posted overseas, let alone to Southeast Asia as he has claimed. The CIA has no record of his ever working with them. His personal brand of martial arts, Dux Ryu Ninjitsu, is also a complete fabrication. Frank Dux never has and does not hold any of the world records listed at the end of the film. Like his own back story and claims of kumite success, these are all pure fiction.
More 80's movies please ❤
only people who were raised in 80's and 90's can understand how great this movie is
The big chinese guy is Bolo Yeung. He worked with Bruce Lee in the 70s. He also starred in a martial art movie called 'The Chinese Hercules'.
FYi. The guy that gets his leg broken is Tong PO from Kickboxer. He's just got make up on in Kickboxer. Jean Claude and he were best friends and travelled from Belgium to become action movie stars. Thought that would be a fun fact for you to know. There is another channel here on UA-camr that interviews him quite regularly.
I really love that your bloodsport reaction has the most views on your channel lol this is one of my all time favorite movies from when I was younger and it’s my overall favorite martial arts movie , great reaction 👍🏼👍🏼
What I liked most is that the Fight Coordinator for the movie was the man himself: Frank Dux.
Mr stolen Valor himself?
Dude was a fraud.
"You are not a Tanaka!" quoting lines from this movie is always fun!
Happy to finally see somebody react to, "Blood Sport", which I enjoyed as a child.
Yea, enjoyed, "Harry and the Hendersons," as well but completely different category.
❤❤♥ BIGFOOT!!
@@reembokreacts you should react to the Hunger Games movies
Loving this movie since 1987!!! Got a call from a school friend....'You've got to come over, I have this fight movie with all kinds of big guys, even bigger than you'....I am a real big guy and certainly back then fit as can be. 😄
Been a Jean Claude fan since then!
For another martial arts movie that doesn't get enough praise I recommend 'Chocolate', also known as 'Zen, warrior within'. A Thai movie, nice story....and the action is out of this world, Yanin "Jeeja" Vismitananda is awesome!
The music for Bloodsport is lifting an already great movie to even more heights....perfect score!
I got the original soundtracl on cd and the remaster from a couple of years back. Now only the 2004 version to go as that one features 1 song not found on the other 2....have to pull out the wallet for it one of these days.
Chung Li is played by Bolo. Yeung a Chinese stuntman that was in movies like "ENTER THE DRAGON" with Bruce Lee. Bolo was a body builder from China in the 60's before making the change to acting. He is now old (77 years old) and half of the man that you was in the 80's.
My childood ! Jean Claude Vandamme is amazing 💪🏼🤩This film doesn't get old 🙏🏻
Those games you used to play were inspired in part by this movie. Very influential movie.
Great reaction... loved this movie and all the other early JCVD 80's and 90's movies
When I was in the Navy, one of my shipmates was a Tae Kwon Do instructor. He gave me free lessons on the ship, before and after working hours. I'd then go to the school he taught at in Virginia Beach, to test.
Amphib base?
@@luckyrockmore2796 at the time, it was called NAB Little Creek.
This film inspired me to start lifting weights and do martial arts at age 13. I'm 41 now and still doing both.
At 31:33 , we see the, now world famous, Paulo Tocha with the very tricky "hands up, dont shoot" stance. His character name is Paco, or The Kickboxer. Lol. This is a small sect of MMA called Krav Manga. What makes this stance so dangerous is your hands are up in a defensive way. But they are also up and ready to strike. Its a non-aggressive fighting stance that keeps your opponent guessing. Its a technique that's taught in many many self defense classes today. Think of it as offensive self defense. Paulo is essentially playing himself in the movie.
I love Bloodsport, and this isn't the only movie Jean-Claude van Damme, and Bolo Yeaung starrted in together, they were also in Double Impact together
It’s funny to think that JCVD was just on the set of the predators playing the predators and he said fuck this shit and went to make this movie 🍿 🥋
This was one of very few Western movies to have actually filmed within Kowloon Walled City, before it was demolished. Those scenes where it looks like they're in a hallway inside a dark basement? Those were filmed on a "street" within the city; the electric wires were indeed electric wires, strung from building to building without any standards or oversight. Really fascinating place. Oh, and the police not wanting to do anything about the Kumite was actually relatively accurate from an historical standpoint: due both to a diplomatic dispute over sovereignty of Kowloon Walled City and to the rampant, triad-related crime inside it, for most of its history the police refused to enter the city.
I took some mixed martial arts classes (primarily Muay Thai & Bando) at a local college many years ago. I always said I learned exactly enough to get my butt royally kicked in a fight. 😄
Bloodsport was based on an _allegedly_ true story...that is, "true" in the sense that only Frank Dux had any recollection of the events depicted but he never backed down from his claims.
It is good that you had some training. You know that fancy kicks and moves are not the most important thing you need to get away from an attacker. For those who have no training just remember that the thumb/fingertips is the weakest point of a grip. You look at the hand and pull hard against that weak point and run! The eyes are a good target as well when attacked. Shins are a good target too. The groin is also a hot shot hit if you are cornered. Most important is to keep calm and remember these tips.
I took shotokahn karate when I was in highschool, for 7 years, I did get a black belt, but hurt my lower back and ended up quitting, that was 20 years ago.
This film was the best martial arts from the 80's and actors who started this movie was brilliant and movies track record was very good and inspiring future martial artists in the future. Thank you for your reaction to this awesome movie 😄
36:08 when my girlfriend sees me not doing the dishes:
I first saw this movie when first came out. I competed in a martial arts the next day. The championship trophies were Japanese katanas. I won one.
* starts watching this before gym session*
Me: ok we’re 15mins in im DEFINITELY coming back to this after my workout cuz I love this movie and you’re so chill.
Also thank you UA-cam for this channel suggestion. New sub❤
One of My All Time Favorite Movie's, Next To "Kickboxer"!! Thank You Soo Much For Your Video!!🙌🙌 "Black Eagle" Is Also Awesome With Van Dame!👌
Do you know Best Of The Best from 1989 with Eric Roberts and James Earl Jones? Because that would be another great martial arts movie to react to.
Sequel was pretty good, too.
26:50 JCVD legit knocked this guy out with that elbow.
The reason why they didn't disqualify Chong Li is because the Kumite is essentially a deathmatch. It's to bring not only the strongest fighters, but the deadliest. What Chong Li did was to be expected in this tournament, not just him, but from everyone who participates. It seems killing is discouraged, but not against the rules. It also seems cheap shots and low blows are acceptable in the Kumite.
If it's accepted then what's the reason at the end they turn their backs on Chong Li? I know it's not canon but they did the same with Demon in Bloodsport 2, so it must be at least some kinda rule against it that everybody uniformly knows - including the audiance?
@@ScytherOnSpree Perhaps because this is a secret tournament, it's not bound by any official rules one would expect from a public tournament, except one the Kumite has. It was mentioned before that Chong Li had killed another fighter in the last tournament and yet, nothing was mentioned on what the committee did with him about it. It's possible that they don't view killing as necessary in the Kumite and may prefer to handle matches without it, however, even these officials must abide by the secret rules the Kumite has, including acceptance of murder. If they can't outlaw it, they may as well turn their backs in displeasure instead.
Were they turning their backs on him? I thought they were turning toward the statue as some sort of ritual. 🤷
If it has not been suggested or on your list yet, you might enjoy the original "Best of the Best".
I love Bloodsport, but there is one thing I don't like much about it. The majority of the film sets up Chong Li as an efficient, ruthless and very skilled fighter. Yet the final match with Dux makes him look like a punk that has to cheat (blinding powder) in order to get in more than one or two effective strikes.
Irony in what happened to Ray Jackson. The first shot that incapacitated him was a kick in the throat. You can see Ray grabbing his neck before he goes down . Just like the fellow Chong Li killed in the last Kumite.
she mentioned WWE and WWF ... im in love :D
my fav martial art movie.
Mortal kombat was designed for van damme as main character. you can see johnny cage and bricks.
This is the greatest movie ever made! I can watch it everyday and not get tired of it. I can't see it enough times!!!
Kickboxer better
Another iconic van Damme movie is THE QUEST. That movie is legendary
Bloodsport was a good late 80's movie. Unfortunately there is some controversy/rumors about the real Frank Dux. I read that there isn't any proof that most or any of his supposedly records ever belonged to him in the first place. After the movie was made Jean Claude Van Damme heard those rumors and he was pissed. Because he doesn't like to do true movies when the majority is based on lies. Van Damme called out Dux and called him names like cheat, coward, con man, liar etc. As far as I know they still have bad blood against each other...😮
The co-writer Sheldon Lettich also has said he was conned by Dux at the time . The records at the end of the movie , were put in because Dux was able to convince everyone they were legit . And sadly was no internet at the time . Years later when more research could be done .. it was found nobody had even heard of his teacher Tanaka . Despite being proclaimed legendary .. in the martial arts world according to Dux .
@@SJ-ty5rw Ya this was a major thing back in the 80s Martial Arts scene. A lot of cons. Men who more than like learned some martial arts, but would suddenly show up somewhere claiming they had spent 15 year or some BS on the side of a Japanese or Chinese mountain getting Ninja training form an old school master. If so why were they now teaching it in a strip mall in LA or some such place for tons of money. Selling syllabuses of dubious origin again for tons of money.
Dux also claimed to be a Vietnam veteran and a Medal of Honor recipient, neither of which were true. Among other things.
I love the older 80s martial arts movies. The very first movie that I saw with Van Damme was Missing In Action, and the first movie I saw with him that showed how skillful he was as a martial artist was a movie called No Retreat, No Surrender. I loved the old 80s ninja movies, so when he played opposite of Sho Kosugi in Black Eagle, I was pleasantly surprised and have been a fan of Van Damme's ever since then. Another poster commented about their request for more 80s movies, and I'll piggyback off that comment with the idea you had of "themed" videos. It would be really neat to do 80s and 90s martial arts, samurai, and ninja films. Nobody reacts to them, and there are really multiple dozens of movies to choose from. Great reaction, btw!
Cheesiness of the acting is what gives its charm
42 years. Judo. Ueichi-Ryu. Wing Chun. Jeet Kune Do. Thai Kwan Do. Jiu-Jitsu. Kali. Krav Maga. Hapkido. BJJ. I'm 50 now and out of shape, so I practice mostly grappling arts. I can't more like I used to.
This movie, Kickboxer (1989) and of course The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers were all inspirational to me as a kid. Basically anything and everything that had martial arts or extreme violence helped lead down the path of martial arts. Which I am proud to say how met my wife and our children are well on the same path. My love and passion of martial arts has given me a fully rich and joyous life that could never be bought.
Don't forget to acknowledge *The last Dragon* as well
@@HEAVYMETALmovie1981 That was a bit light with the violence. But I appreciate the storyline and the final fight scene and the song was way cool.
I like how you see the disinterest and slowly being sucked in.
Watched this as a kid and I always thought Dukes was yelling SAND, SANDDDDD, referring to what was thrown into his eyes. Not the actual words "Say it!".
The kickboxer's style is actually Muay Thai. It originated in Thailand.
Tong po
Kickboxer
When bromance trumps romance; only in the 80s
Ok I'm only 10 seconds in, and I paused to follow. A young girl watching in 2023, BAAAAHHHH I'm already a fan.
I studied Kenpo karate in high school. Since you asked.
The first movie I ever seen JCVD in was “No Retreat No Surrender.” He was the main villain in that one and it was the movie that put him on the map.
Ps, I trained with Bill “Super Foot” Wallace and Keith Hackney. My daughter is a 17 year old Golden Glove boxer and trains at Strong Style with Stipe. Its incredibly important to teach young ladies how to protect themselves. Might as well train with some of the best.
If you get a chance watch The Last Dragon. It’s one of the most influential martial arts films ever made. Especially for the culture.
The big man is BOLO YUNG. Acted in the greatest ever martial arts film. Enter the Dragon!
23:52 The dude playing Parades (Michel Qissi) have you seen in kickboxer, he played the villain Tong Po, he also played the villain in Lionheart another movie with Van Damme. 20:56 This switch coin scene is a Bruce lee tribute/easter egg.
you was right about the first being a kickboxer but the one in pink was muay thai
I want to binge with you tonight HAPPY THANKS GIVING girl
You too!!
The virulent opposition to Dux fighting is because he was in the US Marines (for some reason, the uniforms look like period Air Force, but I wasn't in either service). In the 80s, it was widely believed that miltary personnel themselves were "government property", and so any personnel doing anything likely to result in injury not in the line of assigned duty were risking a "damaging government property" charge. The government itself denies the story, but it seems everybody who ever served was told this anywayl
finaly someone who knows how to edit it to show the most of the movie.
25:52 You said "azi" right when the ref did! 😄
I really like the actor bolo Yeung who plays the bad guy on the mat. Believe It or Not That guy is in his mid-to-upper 70s now and still pretty good friends with Jean-Claude Van Damme. I really enjoyed your video reaction specially since you know the stories in the histories behind the different styles of the fighting. Which I know absolutely nothing about I just bought the movies when they came out on VHS and watch the heck out of them.
Best of the best next 🥋
Really enjoyed your reaction!
The actor who plays SuanParedes actually is the same who plays as Tong Po in Kickboxer.
"OOOHOOWW" "OOHOOWW MY NUTS" :p
It's funny how this movie inspired the birth of video games like Mortal Kombat and Pit Fighter.
Chong Li was played by Bolo Yeung, who was the villain henchman in Enter the Dragon starring Bruce Lee, and in Bloodsport he steals one of Bruce Lee's lines from Enter the Dragon, when Frank performs the Dim Mak and he says "Brick not hit back." The line in Enter the Dragon was Bruce Lee saying "Board not hit back." Fun circle of life.
There’s Kickboxer, then this, Lionheart, Double Impact, Death Warrant, Universal Soldier, Hard Target, and TimeCop. 👍🏾
Have you seen the Mortal Kombat video someone made out of this? They also made a Street Fight version with Lionheart. Both are really neat. And a fun fact, Willie Nelson is a 5th degree black belt in a Korean martial art and "Al Bundy" Ed O'neil is a black belt in BJJ as well. haha
Chueng Lee real name is actor Bolo Young. He plays against Jean-Claude Van Damme in another action karate movie That I cannot remember what it's called and there's another one that I can't recall. The man stays fit up to today. I have almost everyone of his movies. Ask Patreon to send you more of Mr. Damme movies. Keep it up lady. You are doing a fine job.
I believe the movie you're thinking of is Double Impact.
What I like is that you have a yamaha alto back there. yesss saxophone.
Well actually...
34:28 Bolrog was the boxer in the western version of Street fighter and the Spanish claw guy in the Japanese version. The sumo is E Honda.
You may also want to check out The Quest with Van Damme. It's basically Bloodsport pt 2, but it does have some interesting tangents.
Thank you so much for reacting to this movie.
You're welcome 💛
@@reembokreacts how long are you actually doing the center of balance is like minutes or hrs?
Its about a guy called frank dux whom apparently was the first westerner to win the kumite
He claimed it, but he's a known liar.
46:36 with the distortion it looks like Chong Li has little T Rex arms 😆
One of Van Damme best acting jobs was the sci-fi thriller TimeCop
A really great movie. Fyi "The Brick not hit back" is a Bruce Lee Pharse. Also this movie and Big Trouble in Litle Chine were the inspiration for Mortal Kombat game. Mortal Kombat was suppose to be a Van Damme game after the success of this movie. Van Damme inspired the Johnny Cage character (You see the split punch to the balls scene just like Johnny Cage). You should see other martial arts by Van Dame and others. Van Damme movies like Kickboxer , Double Impact ,Cyborg, Lion Heart, Universal Solider, TimeCop. Especially I highly recommand you see "No Retrat No Surrender" (Van Damm is the bad guy in it) which is a kind of Karate Kid movie with much better fights. The actor who plays Chung Lee played with Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon among other things
43:49
You are NECKS 😆
So funny.
I highly recommend Scott Adkins' two best movies, "Ninja" and Ninja 2." His fight scenes are so perfectly choreographed and unlike most movies they don't do cuts. His speed is unbelievable and his acting is somewhat better than JCVD, with all due respect.
Classic. Should follow with Kickboxer, cyborg, Awol (if you haven’t already) haha 😊
Chong Li played by actor Bolo Yeung was in a couple Bruce Lee films and actually fought Bruce.
I've watch this movie like 15 times
That's all??
Спасибо за реакцию. Было классно пересмотреть фильм с красивой девушкой что смотрела его впервые)
Gotta love the music in this movie
Muay Thai
Look at you playing it so cool. You won this Kumite what? three or four times in a row. Cheers by the way.
For Kata you gotta watch "Sidekicks". For Capoeira "Only the Strong" (Great movie in my opinion). Karate kid movies (Assuming you haven't seen them) as well as Cobra Kai (Awesome series plus Sais as a Kata). The goatee "Kick boxer"(Palms out) in this movie seems to combine kick boxing and Muay Thai. Them turning their back was also them turning to an Idol of one of the gods to pray for the dead. A really great, and underrated JCVD film is Desert Heat (With Danny Trejo).
Definitely was a huge Van Damme fan as a kid in the 80’s , I always thought “ Kickboxer “ was better than this movie also with a better story and a scarier bad guy for Van Damm’s character
90's baby but I ❤️ 80's movies this movie influenced me 2 learn martial arts.
