    Thank you for posting this. I have one of these machines (belonged to my mother-in-law) in my "collection". It's always great to learn something new and helpful.

    I have this exact machine. My mother put it on layaway in 1945 for a year and paid $10 a month. She used it to make my clothes and coats! Later on she purchased a Singer in a cabinet and I got this machine which I still use. I enjoyed the video.

    VSMG- Well, we are all human. You were winding the bobbin in the wrong direction the first time. Excellent teaching moment. Many bobbin threading & loading are very directional. A machine has to go clockwise or "anti-clockwise" as the British say. Another great video...

    Just picked up one of these machines for $20 & have been confused by the written directions to go from LEFT to RIGHT at hook A. Your explanation that the spool of thread is to the LEFT & the hook is to the right from there at least makes it make some sense IF you think of it that way.Thanks for that. Replaced the bobbin winder tire and the very pitted & bumpy handwheel on the machine. But the bobbin winder disengages before the bobbin is full. We don't see any way to adjust the bobbin winder lever though. I only have one original bobbin; have wound a couple replacement bobbins. Your demo of twirling a bobbin to see if it wobbles is helpful! Thanks for that too. My husband actually has a small handpiece & drilled a hole in one of the replacement bobbins. So far it seems to work without having any roughness that would catch or shred the thread. Thanks for a helpful video.

    Thank you! You always offer great techniques and insights. My White Rotary Model 77 is my *favorite* machine in my collection. I use it for all my sewing--unless a specialty stitch is needed. Thank you again.

      Hey Bill. Its great to hear there are more Rotary fans out there. These are likely the most underapprreciated vintage models out there.

    TFS this. I'm picking up a Kenmore Rotary this weekend and, though it's coming with 5 vintage bobbins, I like to have at least 8 prewound bobbins on hand. I'm buying modern bobbins made for this machine from Sew Vac USA, because I consider them a reliable source. They get excellent reviews for this particular bobbin. I guess I'll see what happens.

      Nothing wrong with trying these out Bev. If they causes issues, you can always find vintage spares online at ebay, etsy etc. Either way, they are not very costly.

    I am so glad I found these videos, I bought this sewing machine over 10 years ago, no manual with it, never used it before and I want to use it now but, super confused about how it works, I am not sure if it runs with a foot pedal and it is missing from this machine??

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  6 місяців тому

      Some of these came with foot pedals (most likely when in a carry case). Many though came with kneel control units that were installed into the sewing table. You may have one and not be aware. FYI, manuals for this model are available online as PDFs. This site has lots of resources for these Rotary models. sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/page44.html

      I think I found what looks like it could possibly be a knee peddle, wasn't 100,% sure since I saw a pic of a knee peddle but didn't look like what I saw on this machine and didn't see where I could send pics, but I am going to give it a try and I have a treadle sewing machine as well, that I will be getting brushed up on, thank you

    Thanks for explaining how the clutch thing works on these things !.. been searching all day for a drop of information on this.. i have the white 755 i believe. now i'm thinking it may be seized, was worried it may be broken because so far i haven't gotten the needle to move.

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Its not very common for machines of this type to seize though any machine has the potential. Try checking both your hand wheel area and especially your shuttle/bobbin case area along with the underside for thread jams/snags. This can be a common issue other than rust. Also, inspect the shuttle area for broken need remnants that can also jam a machine.

    • @BIKEMAN21
      @BIKEMAN21 3 роки тому

      @@VintageSewingMachineGarage Thanks for the reply, i just found this thing, there is no thread or rust but unless im doing something wrong it seems totally seized, ive now tightened up the clutch as tight as i can and no amount of force will get it do anything.. im able to slowly turn the hand wheel in any direction but its not moving the pistons or anything really. i even removed the shuttle and bobbin to make sure it was not jamming at that point.

    I just got a White rotary and the motor is crazy loud, sounds like a Harley. Yours sounds amazing! This is actually the 2nd time I've gotten a White and the motor sounds like this. What could be wrong? I have fresh grease in the cups and let the machine run for 10 mins to warm/melt some of that, but still so loud, especially starting and stopping. The rest of the machine has been cleaned and lubricated and works well. I need to get this resolved, as it's completely unusable like this. :(

    My bobbin winder doesn't turn the bobbin as it turns, does that mean I need to oil it? It's stuck pretty bad.

    I have a question for you. Is there a way to put a foot control on a White 77? Speed control is pretty touchy with my knee control. Thanks

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Dwight. Once unplugged from power source, your old knee controller can be left alone and the old cord cut and tied off. A new replacement cord can be ordered along with a new generic electronic food pedal. The cords are new reproductions and work well. You can find them at a number of places. If you order one from Sew-Classic, you can pay them a very small fee and they will wire it up for you and ship it as a cord/pedal. Here is the link to a cord such as the one that could replace yours. Always contact the seller to be sure the cord will fit your machine, but this is the 3 prong version that was used for decades for these old Rotarys as well as other Kenmores. It appears they are out of stock but you can email the owner of the site and she is great about responding and giving you a decent time frame on when she expects to have more in. shop.sew-classic.com/Cord-3-blade-slot-Kenmore-White-Sewing-Machine-SCE-660-5.htm

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  11 місяців тому

      You might start with some diluted Dawn dishwashing liquid or just any dishwash soap. Use a soft brush (old toothbrush would suffice) and take your time. It might take a few rounds of going over it, but then again, it took decades for it to get that dirty. I would NOT use any solvent cleaners unless you fully test them first as you don't want to harm the finish.

      You can do a search online for vintage White Rotary parts. Try this site:
      sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/page44.html
      Scroll down until you see "White Rotary Reverse and Forward Regulator" See if that is what you are needing and confirm with the seller your machine's model number before purchasing. You can also try sites such as bonanza.com

      I have the same problem but think the cheapest way to go is to buy plain knobs that fit the D shaft. They won't have numbers on them but it doesn't really matter

    I need help. I just bough one at a yard sale. Is this suppose to have a foot pedal ?

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  4 роки тому

      Hi Laura. You did not mention whether your machine came in a table or carry case. The vast majority of these machines came with a Knee lever speed control setup instead of a foot pedal. However, foot pedals can be adapted and installed in place of the knee control if preferred. If your machine DID come in a table, take a look underneath the right front of the table and look for a small box that has a cord attached. As with all speed controllers and other electrical components, you will want to inspect it and ensure it is in sound condition before using.

    Dónde puedo conseguir un cable para mí máquina que es igual a ésta. Tengo 36 años con ella y es muy antigua y quizás por eso no encuentro más carretes ni cable.

    • @VintageSewingMachineGarage
      @VintageSewingMachineGarage  Рік тому

      Hello Patricia. My Spanish is VERY rust but if I understand you close enough, I suspect that by 'cable', you mean cord as in power cord? If I am correct in what you are asking, you can get new power cords for these and this seller has an impressive collection of Rotary parts for sale. When you go to the link, keep scrolling down until you see the cord which has 3 slots in it. You can purchase this as just the cord or you can buy it already wired into a new foot pedal. NOTE: If your machines uses a knee control, they do not sell those, but a new cord can be wired into the old kneel control unit if you prefer that. Some folks choose to convert the kneel controller to a foot style, but that is just personal preference. Here is the link:

      Laura, I finally solve this problem. You have to turn the weel to back with your hand. I open my machine to see how it works under and I turn the weel to both sides. Try it. This machine is like the cars in England. 😀

      Most of these were installed with speed controllers but are set up for Knee control. There should be a small box a bit bigger than a deck of cards that sits inside the table. Some were optioned with foot pedals but most were sold with the knee control.
