Today Lawman Guitars is Presenting …
A really cool and rare Made in Japan Guitar. A first year 1975 Ibanez Model 952 Guitar with a vintage correct Soft Shell case. This beautiful guitar is in great shape and has been professionally setup for playing pleasure. No cracks and the woods have mellowed over the years to give you a beautiful lushness to the finish that only time can bring.
Cool Story with this one. I have used this guitar extensively for many years now. When it showed up here, I really didn't want to buy a left handed guitar. Yes, this used to be used as a left handed guitar. The previous left handed player had the strings and nut reversed, and a sound hole pickup installed, with a volume and tone control punched thru the top like a Gibson John Lennon... I gave it to Jeff the Tech and asked him to reverse the strings and nut and see what we had here. The guitar played great! No neck reset was required for this vintage guitar. Easy playing low action. Next step was, what to do about the extra holes...We then used the electrical spacers we have used in the past to plug the top holes and the input jack hole. See pics 6 and 7. After that and playing it for quite awhile, I decided to try out one of the new DeArmond Sound Hole Pickups...I was thrilled that we got such a great sound out of this affordable pickup. After that, I have used this guitar quite a bit, taking it out to gigs rather than my usual Gibson J45 and J50. Is it as good as my Gibson? No.... however, it plays great and sounds wonderful enough that I could continue using it for many years...if...I didn't already have two Gibsons...LOL... so it's time to share.
The guitar was used a lot by its previous owners. Lots of player wear, dings and scratches that it came by honestly. No abuse on this guitar. No cracks to disclose but the tuners were changed so there are some extra holes filled on the back of the headstock. The frets are still in great shape. Solid Spruce Top and Mahogany back and sides. X-braced for awesome sound projection to include the arched back. This is a very loud guitar. I have played with Martins and this one not only kept up but made the Martin owners give proper respect!
This Made in Japan Ibanez has a 25 1/2 inch scale neck and the nut measures 1 3/4 inches. Big hands like this guitar. The nice medium C profile keeps this guitar neck from feeling too large...even for small hands like mine.
The DeArmond sound hole pickup is passive. No controls to mess with. Make all your adjustments at the amp. It sounds great. My Gibsons have LR Baggs and this much less expensive pickup sounds almost as good. Cool matching Pickguard material around the pole pieces match the original Tortise look Pickguard on the guitar. This guitar was made to compete with Gibson's J45 and J50. I have to say, owning both Gibson's that it does really good job. Is it as good as a Gibson? Of course not, but it sells for about 25% of what a vintage Gibson would... so there you go!
I am including a vintage correct Soft Shell Case. Fits the guitar great and it has all the original latches, hinges, handle and accessory box. Very nice clean case that looks right for this cool vintage guitar.
Hate to see it go, but grab this one. It has served the Lawman well for many years now.
Now this guitar is uber cool but old and vintage so it is sold as-is no returns..Thanks for respecting that!
