Hey this is Arjun, From India. Your lectures are really amazing Sir. Unfortunately we don't get to hear such lectures over here ,would really love it if you post a few more of such lectures.
good. They're indoctrinating you to think that labour that maximizes profit is more important than labour that maximizes pleasure/happiness. That's the only reason for the division of labour.
It's funny. I was just watching Food Inc. and I'm surprised that trade wasn't explicitly mentioned, yet the rapid innovation that trade sparked obviously started the sweeping changes in every industry man knew, including food processing.
Seattle at 2:19. Woo! Speaking of Seattle, we have a giant grain terminal just north of where the container train clip was shot. Talk about how a country can preserve its precious water resources by purchasing grain from other countries. The US exports massive amounts of water in the form of grain sold to other countries.
Modern Prosperity Roots :- a) Towns Take Spain in the C16th : in Castile towns were castles surrounded by dwellings whereas in Aragon the town had guilds, bourgeois, traders etc Then in the C19th those same towns industrialised while the Castile towns remained agrarian. b) Education China was ossified by Confucianism( the means to access civil position), India was in religious torpor, only Europe had the Universities and thirst for knowledge. Look at the sales of Diderot's Encyclopédie : it was sold all over Europe. (records show which areas where buying most volumes ; the most advanced regions). c) Politics In France The Fronde 1648-53 resulted in a victory for the King over Parliament. That is one reason France remained backwards and missed the Industrial Revolution. Conclusion : where civil rights & law flourished, together with education and trade, there humanity advanced.
