Part 4 - The Production of Relative Surplus-Value
Chapter 14 - Division of Labour and Manufacture
This video is a look at Chapter 14 of Marx's Capital, Division of Labour and Manufacture. Marx is placing the division of labour in context with co-operation and how it becomes restructured under capitalism for increased productivity and relative surplus value. He looks at the dual origin of manufacture, how the labour becomes specialised and individualised, how these process are then reconstructed back together, how this shapes society and finally how this all effects the labourers.

I am currently reading Capital Volume 1 and have really enjoyed your videos. They feel like a mini reading group and helps to clarify the main points of the chapter. Great job comrade!

    Banger Tweet! lol.
This is an important part I'm trying to learn. I want to see how Marx wanted a way to end the division of labor.

      Hey Ibu! :)
Eh, he doesn't really. Marx's point is that the DoL under a capitalist mode of production is just particularly "monsterous" because of it's composition (class structure resulting in hierarchies,) that it's coercively reinforced, and just the vast amount of labour people have to do.
We can see how he puts it in a historical context too (DoL under Craftsmanship doesn't resemble the DoL under Manufacture, which doesn't resemble the DoL under machine production (next chapter)) that it changes on it's altering economic conditions. He also says that the development of the DoL supposes the grouping of labourers in a workshop, but in the previous chapter he states that that comes about via capitalism's appropriation and restructuring of cooperation of labour (the 1st fundamental form of capitalism.)
Obviously DoL existed long before capitalism, but it's the specific "progress" of the DoL that happened after capital's appropriation of the cooperation of labour (that masks itself and takes on a form of appearance as something natural) that Marx is discussing - not the actual natural progress of the DoL itself.
