When I first saw clips of this movie I thought no way would I watch it. Then rolls around a rare Saturday off from work and it's raining the whole freaking day. Scrolling through the channels and this movie pops up right at the beginning. What the hell, I'll watch it between loads of laundry. Ended up glued to the screen and did the laundry that night. It was awesome!! Any time it's on now, even half way through, I drop the remote and enjoy a good laugh!

@@FactsVerse… That was yet another scene that was nearly cut and left on the editing room floor. They didn’t want “Mona Lisa” portrayed as a whiney girlfriend, but as a strong Jersey Girl with the expertise to assist Vincent Gambini in solving the case.
Wisely, they left that scene in, as it helped establish the long term relationship of the 2 characters…

Austin Pendleton the lawyer, that little pat he gives as he's about to go into his examination, and the worst stuttering ever. That whole stuttering scene kills me.

Actors in the background were laughing (or trying in vain to conceal their laughter) at the stuttering lawyer in the courtroom. One of the cops seen in the background along with Mitchell Whitfield and Ralph Macchio are all having a tough time keeping it together in several shots during the stuttering lawyer's open statement and cross examination of Mr. Tipton. The first few times I watched the movie, my stomach hurt from laughing too hard at that scene alone.

It's not a "Continuity error or goof," because it's perfectly reasonable for all of those jurors to be from the area (the same as us -- although, I did go 27 or 28 miles away once ).
It's perfectly reasonable for one of those jurors to wait tables when court is out (or even before court).

the owl didn't actually screech; that was a sound effect put in later. It wasn't an "animal actor" but it wasn't some random owl just happened to land on a branch at the right camera location either. It was brought in by a trainer slash handler. But it wasn't trained for Hollywood, it was just a random screech owl found by production. It jumps at the first shots because even if you fire blanks, those are still loud.

"You think you are in trouble now, wait until your father comes home." That is the punch line to a social situation of a child who gets in trouble in school and is brought home to his mother. The reference here is Marissa's "U think I'm hostile now...."
The opposing side of that is a more current event where the mother says "My son is a good person" after the boy gets arrested (or worse) for committing a serious crime, as shown on TV, sometimes eluding the police, usually or too often ending up as a "or worse."

The reason why My Cousin Vinnie worked so well is that it isn't making fun of EITHER NY culture OR southern culture. All the fun of the movie lies in the *_intersection of the two,_* with neither making fun of the either, only the clashes of the two cultures -- the whole "Yutes" interaction with the judge, for example -- neither is suggested to be wrong, only that there is a communication failure because of the accent difference. Much, if not all, of the humor revolves around these clashes.

I always loved the "defense is wrong" scene, but it could have been so much better. As written, VINNY is the one who figures it out and has to lead Mona by the nose to the conclusion. Would have been SO much better if she'd realized it and had to lead HIM into realizing she knew something, and then just taking the leap of faith with a leading question to her.

A FAVORITE comedy movie! So many funny lines! We just experienced this a week ago stopping in a very rural diner. "Excuse me. You guys down here hear about the ongoing cholesterol problem in the country?" I have not tasted eggs fried in lard since the early 60s and frankly, don't miss it!
Would love to watch it with my granddaughter but there are too many f bombs.
The train scene where the glasses are shaken off the table.
The difference between NY culture, "I shot the clerk?"

I just hauled out "The Karate Kid" parts 1 and 2 along with "My Cousin Vinny" 2 nights ago for the wife and I to watch. Classics! I have a crap load of old 70's, 80's, and 90's dad's and blu-rays. Well, I guess I got stuff all the way up to New releases. We have around 1200 total and counting. We think it makes much more sense to have physical objects like dad's and Blu rays rather than something digital. We are buying up DVD players and Blu Ray players as we go too for future use as I can definitely see them going obsolete and they will no longer be made and sold sometime soon so we are planning ahead. Lol

My favorite thing about this movie is the places really exist and they were in a real prison..That's why I was so into the older movies instead of the new kind. I'm pretty sure that they really got stuck in the Alabama or Georgia mud...I 4get what state the movie was filmed in but they made everything as real as real could be..I got myself stuck in the mud several times down south just pulling off the side of the road. Wva has their fare share of clay mud roads as well lol..

@@FactsVerse The Goonies is the #1 classic, followed closely by Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and of course National Lampoons Vacation.
None of the movies made today have the classic comedy sense that the 1980's and 90's had. The insanity of political correctness and lack of writing skills these days have ruined the movies.
