How many video tutorials did I have to watch over the years to finally come across this one. I'm shocked. This is what I've been looking for. A thorough and consistent approach. Thanks a lot!
one of the best tuts i've ever seen, usually after I study a tut it's pretty hard to immediately implement the design techniques in a way that sounds good AND unique, but this time i have what is most likely the best drop i've ever made within an hour of watching this vid!! i've watched a ton of tuts on creating movement and using different filters in basses, but this video just clicks more, not to mention learning a couple tricks i've never seen before. 10/10
@@HAKOBO also, serum FX is commonly explained as being used on audio tracks, but it's pretty easy to set up midi triggering on the plugin to route the midi signal to the plugin. i think i saw that on a Kompany bass design video.
Oh man, this is amazing! I've been strictly making my Neuro Bass's off the Glitch Kitchen chart, and doing so many steps... thank you for showing this technique! Keep up the great work man, your tutorials are super consistent, easy to understand & always knowledgeable! Big ups brudda
Coming back to this from time to time just because everytime I learn something new. Your channel really is an awesome source of Information! It just wont get to me how this channel hasn't blown up yet.
Wow thanks. Already used some of these skills when synthesizing in serum, but the step by step way you bring those skills plus ones new to me are nothing but helpful. Thanks so much for this video!!
lol how do 7 people dislike this? Thanks man, between this and the white noise bass, you've just helped me make like 4 tunes I've had rolling around in my head.
That song you made is dope! Thanks for taking the time to explain your sound design techniques, I recently got Serum after using 3xosc (yeah i know) and Massive for years and I'm astonished by all the possibilities
@@HAKOBO Ooh didn't know that, impressive! But yes 3xosc is not so bad you can do pretty cool stuff if you are creative. Anyway thanks for the videos I subbed and will definitely watch them all
dude I came across this video randomly and thought your name looked familiar...then realized you added my song jasmine tea on your chill mix! thanks for the add and thanks for the video super informative :)
this was very helpful for me. nice one mate the bit about the voicing has been partially useful to me, thats clearly a aspect of serum i wasnt using and needed to.
Very comprehensive and I like the fact that you made it a point to get the most bang for your buck within the VST. Nothing against post-processing and resampling, but it showcases that you can coax a lot out of Serum.
@@HAKOBO haha goes to show you can learn something even from a super noob! lol. by the way this tutorial kinda exploded my sound design for some reason thank you so much! i've learned many ways to make basses but was having trouble with the evolving modulation style basses, for one i didn't realize "neuro bass" would be the keyword i was looking for but i found this tutorial through looking for deep dub tuts. i subscribed and will be watching your other vids and looking out for new content.
@Hakobo Amazing tutorial! At 4:16 right after you type in 50 how do you get the blue bar to line up so the start of it is lined up with your cutoff line? It sounds like you hit a hot key possibly but I am not 100% sure. When I am trying to adjust the blue line its always split right in the middle of the cut off value. Same with at 5:53 it sounds like possibly hot keys as well. How do you get the blue bar to be the whole knob? When I turn it to 12 oclock the blue bar does not go past 12 on the bottom instead of the full knob.
This is so sick. Just hit record, start playing with different modulations and tweaking different parameters will give you a huge library of awesome sounding bits and pieces to chuck into a sampler and go to town. I so prefer working with resampled audio clips captured while tweaking things around as opposed to trying to record full lines with midi and automating the parameters I want tweaked. That method seems to be a lot easier on the old cpu as well.
Dude this drop is sick. Will you also make a video on drop arrangement or show us how you use these basses to write a drop? I'd be interested in purchasing project files as well so I can dissect them and learn.
Yo thank you! I've bumped your music regularly since you dropped morning wood. Twentythree was one of my favorite tracks to listen to for the longest time.
Amazing tutorial! Thank you! One question though; When using an LFO for modulation, how can you change the knob to have it be omnidirectional and one directional?
@@HAKOBO Dude, thank you so much for your reply. I just want to clarify- At around 4:13, you modulate the frequency on the filter omnidirectionally, then you modulate it positively right after that. So that knob has 2 modulations on it from LFO 1, correct? Again, thank you so much for the info!
what shortcut keypress did you hit at 4:15 to bring the low part of the cut off range of the LFO (blue line circle) up to the current position of the cut off?
Lol. One thing I’m noticing is that I’ve like partially nailed the neuro bass. But, that’s it. Lmfao. I swear, the best tutorials out there’s are from au5, and he’s a neuro s tier. Now, I’ve just been listening to like Barely Alive, and some of those basses are nostalgic. After some research, I’ve kinda realized why half of bass tutorials show you how to make neuro basses. 90% of the other sounds boil down to an extremely Agro wave table and a cmb- filter. And the more fancy versions of that are essentially “classic bass in the osc tab. Neuro in the fx tab.” It’s always cool to find parallels between different sounds in edm. So now my biiiiggest problem is making cool leads. I have like a dooope stack for leads I made in patcher. But, I starting to abuse that shit. It’s, to me, the perfect lead. Subjective, sure but, whenever I get to a keyboard solo or a lead in general, I can bring myself to use anything else. So, I think I need to watch this video. Get some help. Than focus on other elements. Cuz, I prolly only thing this lead is so good because, I got into edm production 10 years ago thanks to skrillex and, stacked my whole ass skill tree in bass design, when I couldn’t make a house lead to save my life….like. I could. But, it wouldn’t be good. Really, I just need to make some lead templates in serum. Or patcher. Honestly, I’ve been really messing with gms and processing for leads in patcher. Cuz, I can’t stress enough, how much doper it is to do pitch bends with native plugins. And I don’t have harmor. So Yee. But for now. Gib meh moar bace sirskie.
Oh damn. Ya liked it. Lemme elaborate. I have by no means nailed the neuro bass. But, relative to the rest of my sound design abilities, it’s the overly swoll right arm of a teenager to my music production skills.
Great video bro! Love how you explained the method behind recording out your session, and taking snippets from it to create your own bass jam sample pack. Question tho: I've seen this style of using LFO modulation in a lot of people's workflow, but I've also seen people use macros instead. When would you choose to use one or the other, and would you prefer to create two different patches, or just use both macros and LFOs in the same instance?
Shift alt and right click if I remember, or maybe shift alt left click. Either way you can go into matrix and change it from bipolar to unipolar with the arrows.
I think the one above it that I posted still works. Unfortunately not much I can do about the website his tables are on going down but I will mention it to him. :3
thanks dude
I remember how frustrated you use to be about using samples. It’s beautiful seeing you synthesize your songs from scratch now.
