Thanks for your comment! This is one of the least popular neuro videos I have but practically my entire channel is dedicated to neuro design. I invite you to explore and feel free to ask any questions ^^

Most informative sound design tutorial I've watched since starting my production journey 7 years ago. Genuinely had no clue how people made these kinds of interesting evolving timbres and you've shown every possible angle. Thanks so much, I'll be studying this video and using these techniques in my next projects :)

VITAL IS MY GO TO SYNTH, LIKE !! THE !! SYNTH THAT I USE AND THANK GOD IT'S FREE, COS I CAN ALSO SHOW SOME TRICKS FOR MY YOUNGLINGS ON DISCORD AND THEY DONT HAVE TO PAY TO FOLLOW THROUGH.
AND AFTER WATCHING YOUR PHASEPLANT VIDS (STILL KINDA DIDN'T GOT INTO IT PROPERLY) I KINDA TRIED TO APPLY SOME PROCEDURES OR BASIC PRINCIPLES AND A LOT OF THEM ACTUALLY WORKED SOOOOO WELL. ENDED UP MAKING WHOLE PRESET PACK THAT MADE MY LATEST EP + PROPER DARK MODE SKIN FOR VITAL :DDDDDD
DOPE VIDEO AS ALWAYS, VERY SIMILAR TO HOW I TEACH, CAUSE AND EFFECT NOT COPY AND PASTE. AND YOU MADE ME REALIZE THAT I COMPLETELY FORGOT HOW TO MAKE THOSE SPEEDUPS WITH THE NOTE PARAMETER :D
    CHEERS !

Wow, that sounds very good, I have to make this bass right now, the alchemy way! Really nice design, Sensei :) More on Vital would be great, any other sound, transition effects, etc...I would learn very much from replicating your patches, I think, but Vital is the only synth I have at the moment. Keep up the teachings, cool stuff, bro.

theres a little mistake. filter 2 is doing nothing because its set to osc 2 which is on 0db. it also doesn't apply on the fm source (because it takes the fm source before the filter (i checked just that :) ). Overall good sound design (as usual). but in case some one wants to recreate this and wondering that nothing happens, theres a little mistake . can happen. but thx for the good sound design

@@Alckemy nope... high filtered a fm source.... it doesn't. sound would have disspeared or at least sth would have happened.the patch works without it very well so dont worry too much about it.

@@7mechman high filtering the FM source will still affect the amplitude which in turn will change the end result - it's definitely doing something but depends how you intend to use it

Have you come across this advanced gain-staging feature, where (desk emulator plugins especially) request -18db input?
I always reminded this when watching your videos - because you use so many distortions…
Well, on investigating, I found - the distortions sounded way different. I was overloading them instead of considering this -18db input. With the requested -18db, they become smooth clean and SILKY. Changed my whole perspective.
You might have to check the manuals to see if it’s relevant. But worthwhile. Many distortion compressor and warmth plugins especially the desk emulation/ channel strip types will use this. The difference is astounding.
Not many tutorials cover this. - Baphometrix did a video on it within his mixing loud with clip to zero strategy.
    Enjoy

    • @Alckemy
      @Alckemy  11 місяців тому +1

I’m aware of all that:) distortion creates harmonics and depending on the shape of the curve. Waveshapers are also weird where you can affect the quiet and loud parts of a sound. But yeah, read up on oversampling as well: it ties into the subject. Dan Worral has a really cool video on it.
I don’t gainstage, but I do have clippers on literally everything.
Generally speaking though, it’s not a matter of gainstaging as digital distortion isn’t really a thing- it was primarily made for recording live and leaving headroom.
However you’re absolutely right in that amplitude as well as drive as well as the source itself can make a distortions characteristic vastly different. Just about being aware and manipulating all the factors to dial in what you want :)
When I do distortion I’m almost never going for clean. I usually build from simple harmonics and stack distortion- saturation primarily in stages. Try it sometime, does some insane stuff to even just sine waves
