      Honestly I’d say at least 50-70% of the clothes in the shops were primary or there abouts there was very few name brands and like you say new primark shirts are cheaper than the charity shop second hand ones… it’s crazy 😂

      Agreed Lee 100%
      They get it free. Hardly anyone going in charity shops has 50 quid to spend on anything. Charity shops have back rooms with 5x the amount of stock that can't be put out cos the shelves are jammed with overpriced stuff.
      Even if you have to cater only to resellers by lowering prices, that is the circle of life. If there were no resellers, charity shops would be totally dead!

    I have no trouble finding stuff in charity shops infact 99.9% of my items on ebay are from charity shops and I do ok with them.. and most of the shops around my area are priced higher than most.. I like to jump on the tube find a new area and have a look around...

      Thanks Andrea, what do you specialise in selling? I mean I know nothing about womens clothing or footwear etc so I never even look, I think a lot of people who sell toys etc also do well out of charity shops.. but for mens clothes and electronic items and other certain bits they seem to be where the prices are particularly high?

    Be interesting to compare one particular charity shop's prices over different areas...does the same charity shop e.g. Mind sell for lower prices in difference areas? Who is working out the price structure and what is it based on apart from rent?

    • @bretton_woods
      @bretton_woods 2 роки тому

      Individual managers of the shops I think. Some insist on every single item being individually priced (meaning it will be asking the highest price its ever sold on ebay worldwide..) and some just have everything at a quid or 2 quid.

Royal British Legion have £70m sat in their bank doing nothing, except losing value thru inflation! Its disgusting and why i wont buy a poppy. At least give me some good stuff for me money

    Unfortunately I think resellers are mostly to blame. Charity shops and even people at bootsales have realised that people will come and pay a pittance just to sell it for 3x the amount online. So they're charging reseller money themselves. It really is a horrible shame as you said, a lot of people can't afford big brands unless it's at bargain prices.

    • @SteptoeAndMum
      @SteptoeAndMum  2 роки тому +4

      There’s hardly anything to resell from the Charity shops anymore, a lot of shops have there own eBay accounts etc.. I can see where resellers have effected normal people getting good bargains but at the Same time a lot of the best donations never get to see the shop.. so much goes on we will never know the ins and outs and every shop operates different however there’s still some really good independents but there usually away from the high street

      @@SteptoeAndMum I totally agree, the people running the charity shops often go through donations and take anything of value out to sell themselves. I say this as I've literally seen it done and heard the conversations. It's not the same as it used to be at all. Such a shame.

    yes people are struggling so can't spend £50
    so it doesn't help you coming along and grabbing all the bargains to make money
    instead of leaving them for people who desperately need them does it ????
    and also it's not extortion there trying to make as much money for there charity as they can !!!
    or have you forgot that concept while concentrating on how much money u can make ????

    • @bretton_woods
      @bretton_woods 2 роки тому +1

      If it weren't for resellers these shops would be dead. Normal people will.come and buy the odd thing but resellers are who come back to charity shop day after day spending the biggest money. That is the way it is. Btw the reseller takes all the risk, cos the charity get their stock for NOTHING.
      And no one has got 50 quid for a coat. Eventually they have to slash the price.
      Ps ya dont need to explain yourself Sonny!
