Altogether outside of the technique, musicality, beauty of the tone, wonderful control, is something else: I completely believe I hear the heart of a teenage kid who has just been hit by the lightning bolt of love for the first time and is ready even to die of it. This is the voice of Tony as I don't think I've ever experienced it.
My god you are so so special. This is unreal. I wept. Like the voices of the Golden Age. Fritz Wunderlich comes to mind. He's my favorite tenor. Your voice is what I always want to hear in this role/rep, and in contemporary musical theatre style am ALWAYS disappointed. Thank you for taking us all back!
The most beautiful sound I ever heard: Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria. All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word: Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria. Maria, I've just met a girl named Maria, and suddenly the name will never be the same to me. Maria! I've just kissed a girl named Maria. And suddenly I've found how wonderful a sound can be. Maria, say it loud and there's music playing. Say it soft and it's almost like praying, Maria, I never stop saying: "Maria!"
I'm glad you got that vibrato so full. This song deserves it. Perfect the very long softness of the first two minutes. At 2 minute mark, the man is suppose to be going crazy inside -- as if he lost her forever. Bring out the pain and beauty at the same time. You are a top man for the job. Bless you.
Wow! You have a most beautiful, pristine voice. Congratulations! Your technique is wonderful (this coming from a 60 y/o tenor). Noticing your UA-cam channel doesn’t have much opera videos, I was about to suggest you’d study Don Giovanni, Zauberflöte, L’Elisir d’Amore but then I stumbled into your webpage and noticed you’re opera career is flourishing precisely with the first two roles I mentioned, I just have words of praise and my best wishes in your career.
I think it's a pianist named Lachlan Glen. I'm disappointed when the singer doesn't mention who the pianist is. Good singers know that a good performance depends not only on the skill and talent of the singer but also on the talent and artistic collaboration of the pianist, like the one who accompanied him.
Can someone who knows more about music than I do please explain tome why the pitch Bill Blass is singing is a full step higher than the official soundtrack?
There are a few different "versions" of the score for West Side Story, including that used for the film soundtrack (1961, sung by Jimmy Bryant) and then the "operatic" studio recording (1984, sung by Jose Carreras), both of which Bernstein was involved in producing. Short answer, the lower key is generally the one used by "singing actors" (Jimmy Bryant was an American country music singer and film actor), while the higher key is used by "acting singers" (such as a classically trained tenor like Ben Bliss). Again, short answer missing some nuance, but that's the gist of it.
He needs to be careful not to push his voice beyond Mozart , Rossini and the like. He might consider art songs and lieder as principal focuses of his career.
Really beautiful. This is not the easiest song in the world, you certainly cracked it. Well done!
The way you just floated on some of those notes was so lovely. I felt like I was being lifted lol
That was lacklustre clapping for a great rendition. Bravoooo ❤
Such a wonderful unpretentious version of this beautiful song… Stil it brought tears to my eyes.
Bravo, every note was on point. The ending was fantastic

I like it when this Broadway musical show has a piano on this screen
Musically the best i’ve found after about 20 versions..but I’m searching for an interpretation that ..well ..😢. Still thumbs up here !👍🏽
Beautifully done. Also, that pianist is extremely attractive- sheesh.
This is an example of the confluence of composer, singer, pianist and lyricist leading to a sublime artistic experience!
I am tenor, I learn at the moment this sound and I know how difficult it is in keeping the high notes but you do it perfectly, Bravo !!!
You are he best of the best! Perfect notes! Thank you!
I treated myself tonight to watch the Met perform in the park. You were one of the voices. Spectacular instrument and talent. Thank you for sharing.

Excellent singing!! Especially loved how you negotiated the final notes of the piece which kill most tenors!!
you mean you like the way he choked off the last note? interesting

BRAVO!!! ✨👏👏👏✨
Lovely, well done 👏🏻👏🏻
PERFECT PIANO PLAYER! What is his name? All pianists need to see the way he played it. Fantastic combo! Thank you.

Maybe Harry Potter and Ron had to destroy the philosopher's stone, but their execution in Hogwards' dungeons is already immortal! LOL
1:17 that is not pianissimo pp

It seems as if I'm following you in your footsteps. Where there are songs sung beautifully and exquisitely, you are already there!
Convincing indeed. Just don't sing too back in the throat.
Inconsistent pronunciation of "Maria..." last syllable should be schwa imho
Depends on what effect you want, the name is latín so a pure "a" is correct. If you want the pronunciation in english then yes, a schwa is correct.
(if alive) Mario Lanza's going to gorge on more pizza while listening to Blissman
Gorgeous singing!
