When he was right, Terry Norris was a great fighter. His challenger here wasn't chopped liver either--Pettway possessed a fine set of skills. Nice match-up. Thanks for posting it.
Petteway destroyed Simon Brown in a way never seen before and Terrible Terry had a threat to deal with but he was flawless blending slugging with cautious aggression
norris could have been truly great.his combination punches were dynamite and the sugar ray fight showed what great fighting potential he had. a loose cannon to say the least lol
Please don't compare the great Sugar Ray Leonard to Norris. That fight was toward the latter year of Leonards's career. A young Leonard would kill Norris. Leonard had great speed with a great defense and the best footwork ever. It's like night and day. Boxing is not all about power. Norris got knocked out twice and disqualified twice for being a sucker puncher. He tried that in the Sugar ray Leonard fight. Norris is a bitch and so are you for bringing up the Leonard fight.
Could have? The era he fought in, the guys he beat, how he moved, his speed, strength, and taking chances, he’s one of the Greatest for sure!!!! Fighters from the early 2000’s, even Floyd Jr., they better be elated they didn’t fight in this era and before!!!!
@@fritziezivic9960 You're probably right, though Mike McCallum would have give Norris good test, & McCallum was more successful than Norris when he moved up in weight as well.. But at junior middle Norris gets the nod - you're right. Just subbed to your channel BTW - a lot of interesting fights there, & with a channel name like "Fritzie Zivic" how could a boxing buff like me resist?
For those that followed Norris, you can start to see the signs his skills starting to erode. He couldn’t stay on his toes anymore. He still has the hand speed and power. Good thing he lost to Mullins, Oscar or Tito would have really hurt him. It would have been nice to see him get paid or the Oscar fight, but what would it have cost him?
I think "most fragile" is a bit of an exaggeration. The guys I know of that knocked him out were good fighters. The fact that he sometimes got careless on defense had as much to do with it as his chin. He was truly amazing to watch on the offensive though.
love norris. one of my favorites to watch, and the best finisher of his era. probably would have blown out vasquez. whitaker would have picked him apart for an easy decision, though, and jones would have ended his career immediately (and possibly his life).
Norris needed some D-fence he would have last longer, and wouldn't have lost his speech, Terry was all offence and no D, the man had plenty of Hart, and that may have got him in trouble
Norris gave up his advantages too often - he had the ability to win easily in a boring fight - but that wasn't who he wanted to be - he seemed to want to be entertaining. One example of this were the 2 Simon Brown fights - Norris gets KO'ed in the first fight, then in their 2nd fight, Norris boxes & wins the fight easy. If Norris had Mayweather's approach maybe he never loses..

left to the body was an awesome norris punch

Could've been great? Norris is probably the greatest light middleweight in history. What're you talking about?

If he hadn't had the most fragile chin of the history of boxing,Terry Norris would have been the greatest boxer pound per pound of all times.
totally agree....
Of all time?? He is one of my all time favorites.. but I wouldn't say all that.
Just my opinion

@@killcancer6499 and when he strictly boxed, no one could beat him at 154lbs.
RJJ also disagrees with your statement.

Was this before or after the Vaden fight? Vaden beat Pettaway.
After
Norris needed some D-fence he would have last longer, and wouldn't have lost his speech, Terry was all offence and no D, the man had plenty of Hart, and that may have got him in trouble
Plus having a short reach in a division with guys that had severe reach advantages over him.

after!
Well, if you can't see he is hitting the dude in the back of the head! Hard to recover from that!
Norris landed two punches in Rd1.
Pettway is king
Always been a dirty fighter!! Julian Jackson destroyed him for that. He been running every sense.
