    Polyethylene is really no better than wood. It gets brittle within a few years, and has no UV properties whatsoever. HDPE however, is a better choice and can be made cheaply with recycled milk jugs. HDPE has excellent UV properties and can last 20-30 years. But like all plastics, it will discolor over time. It can be painted though.

    what is the thickness of the polyethylene sheet used for manufacturing?. How the curved regions produced using thick sheets?

    • @metinkavakl1347
      @metinkavakl1347  4 роки тому +1

      Thickness is 10 to 40 mm. We cut the plates with cnc engine according to model and curves. For more information; please send e mail to kemal@planetboat.com.tr and metin@planetboat.com.tr

      The dimensions of the polyethylene plate used in manufacturing are 1500x3000 and 10 to 40 mm thick. We use polyethylene pipes in wide curved areas.

    great work and great material, I would like to design and manufacture something like this myself. You can suggest a program for designing, if not a secret.

    • @metinkavakl1347
      @metinkavakl1347  3 роки тому +4

      It is not a secret. We use very common programs like Rhinoceros, Maxsurf, Autocad. You can use any of those or other nice common programs like 3dmax, solid works etc

    Does the hull have glued joints that are held together solely by chemical adhesion or are there joints held together with mechanical fastners and sealed with adhesive . I didn't think polyethylene could be glued .

    • @metinkavakl1347
      @metinkavakl1347  3 роки тому

      Polyethylene can not be glued. All plates are welded to each other.

    Is this HDPE or LDPE?

  • @chrisbatten8

    It's fantastic that the industry is slowly moving towards almost fully recyclable solutions for fabrication and boat building Polythene and Aluminium definitely seem to be the way forward at the moment..... (and to an extent ferrous metals as well although ferrous metals do have limitations such as highly toxic paint and anti-foul being needed as an integral part of the system)..... The amount of GRP Boats that will need to be decommissioned at some point very soon producing huge amounts of almost indestructible totally useless waste as they eventually become unseaworthy or completely untenable due to the amount of fuel they consume is going to be a serious problem in the future...... If You Guy's could work on Preferably Electric Drive and or Bio Fuel then That'd Be Absolutely Amazing All Round for Everyone..... Well Done for Leading the way Guys....!!!!!!!! :)
