No it wasn’t. Everybody thinks that the YF-23 was clearly superior. The only real advantage that the YF-23 had was higher supercruise speed compared to the YF-22. But the production F-22 is faster than both. That is established fact, but everything else is just conjecture. The YF-22 and YF-23 were just prototypes. The YF-23 was never fully developed and therefore lacks a long, long list of features found in the fully developed F-22. It is impossible to say what a fully developed F-23 would have been capable of because it would have required many, many changes from the prototype YF-23. But people just say that the YF-23 must have been superior because it looked more exotic and futuristic. They ignore obvious facts.
