Kudos to the people at Disney in 1955 for discovering this talented guy. This was when Disney discovered talent and didn't create it. R.I.P. Mr. Crawford!

Actor, singer, musician, and bandleader Johnny Crawford passed away on April 29th, 2021. He was seventy-five years old...
He was best known for playing Mark McCain on the ABC-TV weekly western era series 'The Rifleman', it aired from 1958 to 1963 and he appeared in all 168 episodes...
At the age of 13, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for 'Best Supporting Actor' for his work on the show...
In 1955 he was one of the original Mouseketeers on Walt Disney's 'Mickey Mouse Club', he was cut after its first season due to a reduction in the size of the cast...
Between 1961 and 1964 the Los Angeles, California native had eight records on Billboard's Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10, "Cindy's* Birthday", it peaked at #8 {for 2 weeks} in June of 1962 and spent thirteen weeks on the Top 100...
He had two Top 20 records, "Your Nose Is Gonna Grow" at #14 for one week in August of 1962 and "Rumors" at #12 for one week in December of 1962...
In the 1990s he was the leader of 'The Johnny Crawford Band'...
    May he R.I.P.
    * In 1963 he released a Cindy sequel titled "Cindy's Gonna Cry", it reached #72 and stayed on the Top 100 for seven weeks...

All those bubblegum songs the studios made those 60s starlets crank out: Johnny was one of the only ones who sounded like he enjoyed what he was doing. Lovely and tuneful. Of course he went on to a career in music.

While a student at the Los Angeles City College Broadcasting Dept., in 1965, I organized a contest involving the young star of the Rifleman TV series, Johnny Crawford, the actor who played the Rifleman's (Chuck Connors) son on the show and who also had a hit single called “Cindy’s Birthday.” The promotion offered a young woman student a date with Johnny to Disneyland. I went to Disneyland with Johnny, his agent, and the winner of the promotion. Johnny’s agent took publicity photos of everyone.

I can remember hearing this on my late sisters 45 record player, you know the kind that you could stack up to 10 45 singles on and they would drop down one at a time. She also had Wayward Wind among her singles and Image of a Girl and oh yea Sacred. She has been gone many years now but not a day goes by that she is not in my thoughts. This is most certainly a great song from a bye gone time.

    I carry your books .....
I give you looks that say ... I love you !!
    I send you flowers ....
Spend my hours thinking of you
But I saw you late - last - night
You were holding another - boy - tight
    Go ahead .... explain !!
But remember .... if you lie !!
    The boogie man'll get you
And your nose is gonna grow ....
So remember .... if you lie !!
    Everyone will know
    Remember - if you lie
Your nose is gonna grow !!
    And everyone will know
    You're holding my hand !!
Making plans to spend - together
    Promising me .... that our
    Love will be forever !!
If everything you say -is true -
    Who's the boy I saw - with you !!
    Go ahead .... explain !!
But remember - if you lie
The boogie man'll get you !!
And your nose is gonna grow ....
So remember .... if you lie
    Everyone will know ....
The boogie man'll get you !!
    Your nose is gonna grow
    The boogie man'll get you...

I like songs from the 50’s and 60!s because the instrumental is as beautiful as the vocal! Often orchestral sounds. And the words are so clear! Which is more than I can say for most songs of today. For most of today’s songs I don’t call them songs, rather, noisy trash. There’s a general lack of beautiful melodies and there is too much screaming, like they are trying to show off their vocal power more than singing! You see that a lot on American Idols, America’s Got Talent, Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor! Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston are examples of screamers!
Susan Boyle, Adele and Bruno Mars are some of the rare good ones of today.

I was listening to this song right now and it got me wondering, all my exxx's had long noses. I had one Babe who had a nose you could have planted a nest on it. You know something, she did own a Parakeet!

The late Johnny Crawford played Mark Mc Cain on TV's "The Rifleman"-He was a pretty decent singer,as well.
