Will there ever be a day when I can sing like Sierra Boggess? Nope. Never. Not in a million years would I ever come close to singing like her.
NCIS FANATIC14 I know the sensation.. unfortunately..
NCIS FANATIC14 We shouldn't sing like her, we should sing the way we as individuals were meant to sing. We can look up to her and learn from her, but we should not strive to be her. We should strive to be the best that WE can be, and not sound like anyone other than ourselves.
Sierra is beyond amazing!!!!!!
@Anna Maria - Verdi's Lady Macbeth is a role written for a dramatic soprano (or even sometimes done by a mezzo). Look up any video of "vieni t'affretta" (the aria Sierra is singing here) and you will hear that the orchestration is heavy and intense and it would take a voice of much greater heft than Sierra's to carry the role. Though she is ideally cast here because the character Sharon is supposed to be a little over her head with the rep she is offering
Exactly! She is also supposed to be a student, so this is a level of singing I would expect from student. Its important to portray that or else why watch a play call MasterCLASS if we don't see students learning?
I think she does quite an impressive job considering Lady Macbeth is written for a Dramatic soprano and Sierra is a Coloratura soprano.
sierra killed it in the last scene!
If you compare what Sierra does vocally in that scene to Audra, Audra destroys her vocally.
I meant it that way round like she nailed it :)
That's the intention. It's a point made in the play that it's the wrong material for her voice, particularly a young voice like Sharon's.
Exactly. I also think the ending hits harder now in the wake of McNally’s death.
Who only came for Sierra?!
@Charlie Charlie calm down tf
Is there footage of the whole musical available?
saw it in London when it came in the uk tyne was superb in the role.
SIERRA IS SLAYING
I swear Tyne Daly can do anything and better than anyone.
Saw it the week before it closed
Why Sierra Boggess doesn't make her operatic debut like Kelli O'Hara I'll never know. She really needs to!
it's not a musical, it's a play and i don't think they recorded the show :(
@comborbotch I don't understand your comment. Is the ending of sierra boggess singing. Is that wrong for her voice? I don't understand
Do you have the full musical on DVD or something? If so, where'd ya get it?
that's the point lovey.
Is this how they have class? It feels like a scripted theatrical play.
william Mian Wei it's because It is. Masterclass shows the classes the great Maria Callas gave in juliard. One of the great actresses that portrayed her was Patti LuPone
@@loferx The role of Maria Callas was originally portrayed by the late great Zoe Caldwell. The play premiered on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre on November 15, 1995 and closed on June 29, 1997 after 598 performances and twelve previews.
plus her center range is weak. she should work on that...that is if she inteds to sing Opera. Same with Musetta
That`s my point. Don`t higher someone to sing a difficult aria specially Lady Macbeth which was written for a lyric soprano. The colour of voice for that role is much darker. Sierra is way too light.

I don`t agree when u said "a real opera singer wouldn't have drawn as big of crowds" search for Diana Damrau, Natalie Dessay; Sumi Jo, Laura Claycomb, Anna netrebko Montserrat caballie , Renee Flaming and see their concerts!! Plenty of ppl go and see them sing =)
I don`t agree but she dis good there`s no doubt about it. Is like when she sang Musetta that`s not a role for her...but it doens`t mean I don`t like her I think she`s great! But ppl shold be careful when they choose arias to sing.
+Akia Clemente Yes, but since Audra has done such an incredible vocal and acting performance for this role , when anyone else attempts it, comparisons will naturally be drawn.
***** yes I read the whole thread, this discussion is about the appropriateness of Sierra's voice type and training for this role, I just made the point that because Audra had put such a stamp on this role both vocally and in acting ,that it would be a very hard act to follow.
Daly doesn't emit any of the exotic command and charm of Callas and looks nothing like her. Neither did Caldwell. LuPone came the closest to the look and sound.
