Yeah, but there's two ways to do it that will result in two different things: 1. One tracker to empty: you only need to have one track visible when you need the skull to be seen, you convert it to an empty and parent the skull to the empty but it only solves the position, you need to manually Animate the rotation and scale of the skull. 2. Camera track: you MUST have at least 8 tracks visible throughout the part when you need to see the skull, and then you don't need to Animate the object moving, the camera does it for you.
To make the effect look even better, you could take an hdri from your scene and import it into Blender. With this you can emulate the light of your shot, so that both lightings an colors are matching very well.
this is pretty interesting because although i think you could have made the skull tracking technical problem way easier for you by using other tools, the finished result is really good because of all the other details around like the torned shirt, the make up, the explosion reflected on the door's glass, and the natural light inside the room during the explosion... I think it shows how the tools are NOT the core of the effect but the artistic direction is. Thanks for sharing your process, and thanks for sharing your blender tutorials, i m planning to try and learn soon!
you can easily 3D track your face in aftereffects instead of the hand animation. you still have the footage, try to roto the face alone (garbage mask) and then use the 3d camera tracker on it. this easy you will trick aftereffects and it will create a moving camera and a solid that will stick to your face as a 3d object. then export the scene to blender and just place the skull at the right place and render. another method if you have mocha pro then you can track objects in 3d space and export them
I can relate to you, Steve. I'm also not a 3D animator. I just enjoy editing videos so much. But we all learn something new everyday, don't we? In this case, I've learned something incredible from you. Awesome job. Keep it up, man.
Honestly, I think Steve is one of the best VFX youtubers out there. The attention to the details he has is amazing. I wanna start adding these kind of scenes within my vídeos to make them a little bit more *interesting* , maybe re-create scenes of my favourite movies/TV shows. I learned A LOT from you, Steve. Premiere Pro is great, but very limited for editing these VFX clips. But, After Effects looks so scary and confusing to start using it 😅
The whole channel is a 10/10 but I am impressed more and more every time by the intelligent way you are explaining everything and justifying why you did what you did. Amazing!
Wow incredible work. The most I have ever done is make a short video of me as a Jedi who accidentally cuts his own arms off with a light saber. It took countless hours to do for only a 12 sec video. Such a learning curve. I would be too intimidated to try what you did in this video. I just subscribed to you.
Great work!! indeed there were some flaws but you did it with such a short amount of 3d knowledge that i hope there will be more awesome tutorials like this in future when you learn blender properly!
I haven't personally tried but I think if you use Cinema 4D and import the 3D model into AE, you can easily control the 3D directly inside AE instead of going back and forth into Blender. You can edit your 3D model in C4D and it gets updated immediately inside your AE in the event that you want to add more details to your 3D model.
A+ for the effort! There should be more After Effects tutorials on how to actually create VFX, rather than "today I'll show you how to animate audio digitizer in After Effects". Well done mate!
Hi bro! Glad you worked on it as you were new to the blender but it could have been easier for you if you converted that footage into image sequence and tracked in Nuke or any other 3D software as per your choice and imported that track data on the camera of 3D software (blender, maya) and all you had to do then was just to align your 3D model once. Or if you wanted to do it more professionally then like hollywood or bollywood then I would recommend you using Nuke for it. It would have helped you better compositing the 3D model otherwise the method I mentioned above could also be used for a decent basic effect. But it would have worked well as you worked hard on the shooting process, wearing that makeup and prop. Good job mate!
you chose the hard and wrong way of doing that - only use manual transformation animation if there's no other choice. you could 3d track your face in AE, then add skull either using Element 3D or transfer tracked camera into Blender
Great tutorial! One thing that bothered me is that you could have done this all inside Blender, without touching AfterEffects, but as you mentioned - you're not very experienced with it. Still a very useful and inspiring tutorial!
Blender is able to motion track objects onto clips, which could have been useful As well as that, you can download a HDR of a place that looks similar to where the video was shot, and use it as a skybox material in blender so the lighting looks more realistic.
Made yourself a whole lot of work there. Mask and track the face markers, export the camera to blender so the camera moves around the static skull. Export and comp. Could also have used the stabilised export to project texture onto geometry around the skull and build up destroyed face parts.
You already did a jumping out of a window effect, but perhaps you could do the same thing from the side, sort of combining the train jump and window jump effects!
this makes me nostalgic for the good old days of youtube.
How???

Ironically you could have used the markers on your face to do a perfect object-track in Blender for the skull.
Probably would take more time. I love Blender but its motion tracking is crappy.
Yeah, but there's two ways to do it that will result in two different things:

@@vuxanov nope, you just need to know how to use it correctly, watch CGmatter's videos about it
@@vuxanov No i watch guy doing it in no time CG matter (he uses 3d part software to create tracking script ) and then add it to Blender .

Pretty good, blender has tracking tools and rotoscoping, which probably could have helped sync things easier but still really good
If you really want to match the lighting, take a hdri of the environment you shot in on the day and use that as an environment texture in blender
