- You no longer have to remove your entire fairing to replace your handlebar on the 2024+ Harley Street Glide! This saves about an hour or more on a bar change. The entire replacement took me 2.5 hours.
This video shows how the bars are replaced with the fairing on the bike, the way the Harley service manual explains it.

Oh man, I wish every how-video on UA-cam was as clear, concise, and as free of fluff as this one! I just shared it to a SG trouble thread on Facebook.
EXCEPTIONAL WORK!!!
Glad it helped! Thanks for sharing!
Nicely done! Very detailed removal and installation. Thanks
this is the absolute best tutorial video ive ever seen
gonna be my winter project for sure
Wow, thanks! If you have any questions I don’t mind helping.
Great video, I don't ride a street glide, ride 24 RG, but u did an outstanding job!
Thank you! Appreciate the feedback.
Much more convenient than removing the whole fairing. Nice job!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing your expertise.
I want more videos! I could listen to your sultry voice all day! Wish you did videos about a 99 4runner. I would be able to fix anything with your detailed videos!
Ha! Hey, if I could get more money for parts or have parts sponsored, I’d do videos every day!
I swapped out my stock bars today for the HD Tall Boy handlebars. Unfortunately with the 2023.5 CVO, you can't swap out the bars this way as there is a metal bar preventing you from manipulating the handlebars as shown on the 2024 in this video. I ended up removing the inner faring and accomplished the task. Thanks for the video as it inspired me to take on the swap on myself!
I’m intrigued by why you couldn’t do it this way as there is no difference between the 2023.5 CVO and the 2024 SG. I’m not sure what you’re calling a metal bar that’s in the way. Could you point it out in this video? These are the tallboy bars shown in this video.
@@BrandonsHarley There actually is a difference around the key lock. I took a picture of it on my bike so I could show how this bar with a metal prong on each end prevents the bars from being manipulated. However, I don't see how I can add it to this thread.
Great video. If just need to adjust the bars only need to remove that plastic cover and tray? Are those the HD Tall Boy bars? Thank you.
Thanks! To adjust the bars, the service manual state you can just remove the tray, loosen the two exposed clamp bolts (and the alignment bolt if you still have it), make the adjustment, and tighten the two clamp bolts.
These are the HD Tallboy bars. About 2” taller than stock.
@@BrandonsHarley thank you. Just subscribed! You like the tall boys better is what I am thinking of doing.
@@gp62902Thanks again! Oh yeah, the Tallboys are much better. I can lean back a little now.
@@BrandonsHarley sorry one last question. The tall boys wider than stock?
@@gp62902No problem, ask away. The only difference from stock is the height.
Very well documented video! Thank you! I feel confident I can install bars myself.
You can do it this way, unless you go with the 12" bars and need to replace the clutch, right?! I just replaced my bars and took all off....
BTW, thank you for this one. I had to readjust my bars and it took me 15 minutes. Great video, keep them going! Subscribed!
You can still replace the clutch cable and brake line this way. You just remove the p-clip retainers from the top of the triple tree and it will free up the lines to be replaced. There is one retainer for the brake line, and one for the clutch cable.
You will need to have a right angle T27 (like an Allen wrench, but a Torx) to get the bolts out. There is not enough room to get a T27 socket in there.
For 12” bars, you do not need to replace either line. Removing the p-clips from the triple tree gives enough slack.
Which new bar did you go with? Looks like maybe 2" more rise? Are you happen with it?
I went with the Harley Tallboy bars. They are about 2” taller than stock. Much more comfortable, similar to the stock Road Glide bars.
Did you need to change the upper clutch cable with these Tall Boy bars?
@@BrandonsHarley Did you need to change the upper clutch cable with these Tall Boy bars?
@@stevenicolle1598No. nothing new was needed. I did have to adjust the bends in the factory clutch cable though. I also removed the p-clip retainers from the upper triple tree so the brake line and clutch cable would have more slack.
@@BrandonsHarley That is so good to know. Thanks for your quick response!
With the 2024 model putting on the Tall Boy handlebars, did you need to put the mirrors on the bars? I put the Tall Boy handlebars on my 2020 street glide special and I could still see behind me with the mirrors on the faring.
Yes, new mirrors on the bars are needed. Hands will be directly in front of the mirrors with these 2024 Tallboys.
@@BrandonsHarley Thanks for your quick response!
Very interesting
What mirrors are you running?
These are the Harley Adversary (gloss black w/highlights) P/N 56000354 (left) and 56000355 (right). These are the CVO mirrors.
They do not come with the acorn nuts or washers, so you’ll need to get those from Harley or your favorite hardware store.
Harley P/Ns for nuts/washers:
7155 (need 1 per side)
7352 (need 1 per side)
12505 (need 1 per side)
Is it the Procedure for 2023 street glide
No
I thought you didn’t have to remove the faring
The outer fairing shell is removed, not the fairing. If you’re familiar with any of the previous models of batwing fairings, you might remember that the entire fairing has to be removed, which required considerably more labor as you have to disconnect all electronics, brackets, etc.
is that a grease zerk on the handlebar clamp
Absolutely not. On the clamp itself is a locating screw for use with stock bars. Keep grease away from the handlebar and clamp.
@@BrandonsHarley if you would have said yes i would have said "ain't that stupid"
Oh yeah, this seems really easy. 😂
