Despite all the challenges KE is facing, they are making profits. Meanwhile its the stupid middle class guy who is paying bills but not getting electricity. How about KE pay a small penalty each time we register a complaint - deduct the amount from our bills. Why should only the people suffer?
Technical faults are everywhere, nothing remains a 100% for eternity, especially electric infrastructure has many uncontrollable variables. Not to mention how people bribe officials and register less electric requirements for their premises so they can get to the cheaper billing tariffs. I live in a section of Islamabad where there is little to no load shedding, our wiring is underground so no electric shutdown under rains or storms. Still faults happen and we get to be out of electricity for few hours at least 2-3 times a month. Once a month we also experience maintenance shutdown, lasting 8-12 hours. Islamabad is not even a comparison to what is Karachi. The sheer massiveness, and number of subscribers has extremely eschewed metrics. The problem is not one dimensional, it has more to do with the rivalry and lack of communication between municipal authorities.
@@brazensmusings2738 When technical faults happen on a daily basis, twice to thrice a day, it tells a lot about the infrastructure. We are sane enough to not expect 100%, but wise enough to know when they are making a mockery of people by twisting facts.
@@AbdulQadirF99 Look its a for-profit non-public organization. It will never consider a solution which will get its back to the wall because government will not go to the lengths it goes for PIA for instance. A city the size of Karachi cannot have good service everywhere so what any organization does is to try providing a uniform quality of service. Which only improves in years and only if other variables remain constant, like building regulations or municipal infrastructure or even problems within it self. Which well never happens. But well complaints must be made regardless.
Greetings from Mumbai, India! Well done Junaid bhai . Excellent interview giving a chance for the Utility provider (KE) to present its case. Appreciate the sincerity of the KE officials to put forward reasons and harsh realities on the ground to answer all the probing Qs. Karachi citizens who were recently affected by power outages mainly due to recent flood-like situation after heavy rains may find these explanations given by the KE officials to be unpalatable. Comments by many viewers are understandable after they went through the nightmare. Let’s compare the power/ electricity supply situation in Karachi and Mumbai (both cities are alike in many ways). Karachi power daily demand is on avg a~2500 MW, while Mumbai demand is ~3200MW ( ignoring the peak demand) Both cities have private distribution companies (discom) . Mumbai has 3 companies, while Karachi has one discom. KE's spread of customer base is across 6,500 sq km to handle 2.5 million customers..while Mumbai has an area less than 1000 sq.kms to service ~9 million customers. Discoms in Mumbai and Karachi are governed by a regulator, who fixes tariffs for all customers- residential, commercial, industrial, roads, parks, etc . Mumbai has special tariff for people Below Poverty Line ( BPL) , which Discom have to abide by. Let us compare Tariffs and electricity bill for Mumbai and Karachi residential user for monthly consumption up to 700 units in Sep 2020: Mumbai : Mumbai Consumer paid Fixed charges ( INR135/month) + Wheeling charges ( INR1.57/ unit)+ Variable charges (INR 7.8/ unit) = INR 6,694 or PKR 15,128 (assuming 1 INR=2.26 PKR) , excluding Fuel adjustment charges (FAC) and Taxes/ duties. Karachi: As per approved tariff on KE website For consumption upto 700 units/ month: @PKR 17.60/ unit, which amounts to the monthly bill of PKR 12,320 !! ( assumption for above comparison is single-phase, connected load less 5KW for Karachi and 10 KW for Mumbai as per approved tariff) . Karachi citizens pay 22.8% lower Electricity bill then Mumbaikers ( i envy Karachi) [Disclaimer: Billing calculation done on straight-line method instead of using the telescopic rate for sake of simplicity. If the telescopic rate, FAC and taxes are considered, Karachi electricity charges will be further lower] Cheers Karachi :-) But there are other stark differences : Mumbai gets rains on avg 3200 mm per annum, while Karachi gets 175 mm / year. On 27Aug 2020 Karachi got 223 mm rain in 24 hrs, while Mumbai got peak of 375mm in a day in July 2019. Electricity supply to Mumbai wasn't impacted even during this heavy rains, while Karachi saw long outage. T&D losses are around 10% for Mumbai cos while its ~19% for KE in 2019 (as per 2019 Annual report of KE). Mumbai has no-load shedding, except planned outages due to local maintenance or repairs for less than an hour, which are announced well in advance through digital platforms to the target users. Mumbai doesn't see DG sets or UPS in residential or commercial places. All Discoms in Mumbai are highly profitable ventures. Quality and reliability of power supply in Mumbai is best in class India. As per the claims of KE officials, there is no gap between demand and supply, nor it will be in future with supplies being assured from the central grid. The main issue is mainly in T&D, local infra, planning, maintenance, customer services within Karachi city. KE will need to invest more in T & D infra, technology, manpower. Local administration, stakeholders in Karachi & KE needs to coordinate among themselves so that no surprises are seen in demand and infra gap. Last but not least, for KE to invest more, it needs to earn more by way of reducing T&D losses and operating costs, and getting Higher tariffs ( yes ..there are no free lunches, unfortunately)
The basic question is when they are developing infrastructure 30 years ago, they only comsidered those 5 people who were living in a house but they didn't plan for 80 people living in the same place after 30 years. And I I am sure they don't have any plan for mext 30 years, you'll see people crying in 2050.
Its not about planning, it is something done always in private for-profit organizations. Otherwise they will not get investment. The problem here is accountability. How many people who built those plazas actually submitted correct specifications to the authorities? Did they even build on a sanctioned high rise area? Do they or KE do regular assessments every few years for electric requirement changes? Everything would have been planned if there was a paper trail substantiating such requirements. Going from 5 to 80 (i know its exaggerated) is a an extreme deviation, even the usual 20% compensation for risk cannot cover it. Frankly its naive to think that K-Electric will not want to give those 80 people electricity and potentially make over 16 times than before.
Junaid Akram is a genius, he knew nothing gonna change and they were just manipulating people with sweet lies. That's why at 25:38 he ended by saying "Acting ke badshah ho" xD
1. City infrastructure can grow even vertically. An example is Singapore. They grew vertically. No loadshedding there 2. If you want to underground cables, do it in the months where there is not a single drop of rain... stop giving lame excuses 3. First she mentioned that some parts of Lyari are loadshed free and then on the other hand she mentioned that Karachi is divided into 12+18 sectors. So my massomana sawal is Lyari part of 18 loadshed free sectors but the Federal B area is not? how come?? 4. They keep trying to use word 'investment' but pottery it as a charity to karachi city after 10 mins watching this video I lost hope.. sorry KE you need to gear up your quality standards not quality of excuses
It is shameful how they are not accepting their mistakes and the torture they inflict upon the city. Rather tell us about the importance of a 107 year old failure that we should be proud of.
yaar pehle baat awaam bhi seedhe nahi hai hamari dono ki ghalti hai aur rahi baat loadshedding maine ab tak dekha hai bhohot kam hui hai so you are the real one who are not accepting your mistakes
How can you not see them giving a solution? They clearly said; pay your bills! Did you not hear that 12/30 areas are defaulting? How can you expect any organization to work with almost 30% of their subscribers not paying at all? It is already a miracle that they have not sold the company yet. They have bought more capacity which will be put online next year. It may seem they are slow in providing it but adding more electricity is not like throwing a switch and more electricity starts to flow into the system. New supply lines and grid stations need to be planned and built. Each typical grid station costs at least a billion each. They being a for-profit company is extremely generous to these thieves, giving them 12-16 hours of free electricity. The Peshawar distribution company, a public entity, gives as low as 1-2 hours of free electricity to such defaulters. It fluctuates according to how many pay each month.
Kids did a good job answering the questions (which of course is a big task when you are sitting in front of Junaid Akram the legend :) ) , but i am feeling somewhat dissatisfied with KE's answers and their performance ! (and this is coming from someone who is not a Karachiite)
But they did make good points. At the end of the day, it is the regulator which needs to be vigilant. KE is a private company and for all things they will absolutely love to supply maximum electricity possible. Still waiting for 2023 and how or even if competition comes and changes the landscape.
They are good speakers. That's all. Not even a single answer justified their incompetency. They even didn't accepted what KE does to common man. They are not a public organization, expecting anything from them which benefits you more than them is wrong. These can be called mistakes for public organizations. KE will only label it with insufficient resources.
@Nk I guess remaining civil is too hard an ask. If you read each of my comments you will find valuable knowledge that will clarify your perspective and allow you to do something about KE in the correct way. Not this emotion fueled blaming which has no standing nor any positive outcome in the end.
They both KE representatives have not authorise to solve the problems but Junaid bhai did the Effort and collect the point from both conversations that how we solve the problems of Karachi, Every effort count guys. 👍
Yeh walah comment, gets a "Like" from me. Mr.Junaid should have provided some source of a platform where people can write to him about what he should ask from the guests(in terms of public's opinions & questions are concerned).
If your area transformer breaks down, K electric would not install it .. rather the residents will have to contribute and pay the amount to K electric only then they will come and install the transformer purchased from our money .. it is just like if the cellphone tower of your area faces a problem , the company asking its customers to pay for the cost of equipment and only then they will get the service restored. Imagine can a telco do that ?? No because there is healthy competition !! The days of PTCL monopoly are gone when a customer had to pay hefty amount and then wait for months to get a telephone connection ! Similarly monopoly of K electric must end ..
And what about when they send me 15000rs bill suddenly instead of 2500,and they just say k sir aap ko pay krna to prega, lekin next month se nahi aaye ga itna bill
The lady who talking frequently in.favour of c_electric I want to say her that she only highlight the their goods not talk about the bad deeds Infact nice video junaid bahi

It's shamefull to see how this private company is not accepting their mistakes and keep confusing people with blame game well there are areas which are loadshedding free which are now again turn into heavy loadshedding area on the name of maintenance and if I am paying Hardees 1600 for a burger so I want quality not some anda wala burger you can't accept the fact that your company and your employees are a bunch of failures.
I think you should’ve right away replied her with “I don’t believe its 75% load shedding free” unless you actually do believe that 😳 Though I’d still say they both did a good job in trying to give a satisfying answer and are very polite. No doubt.
Alot of negative comments here but oddly enough I found all of their answers satisfying and all the answers were fact-based. Quite impressed with how Nida handled all the questions and answered all the parts of the said questions! It's important to remember K-electric ka kaam hai bijli farham karna karachi ke infrastructure ka tehka nahi liya howa unho ne.
She said 75 percent of Karachi is loadshed free, she meant 75 percent of Karachi's area, not population. It is quite possible that more people live in the 25 percent area that is not loadshed free. I hope that clears up your confusion.
KE installed a complete electric infrastructure in *Gulshan-e-Hadeed* for the Extension dwellers. Though, despite paying the bills on time and after ten years of waiting, the E-infrastructure is standing still where it has been two years ago, the polls, cables and PMTs are still standing there untouched, yet no connection is given to any residence or any businesses for that matter. We have been thoroughly informed that the E-connections will be given to the residence in a week or so, after submitting some form in KE’s electric scheme for *Gulshan-e-Hadeed.* This has been going on for some time yet nothing mentionable is done. Most ppl have already submitted the required forms. This is so tiring...
I live in australia, here infrastructure is own by the state and utility service providers use that infrastructure to provide utility services to consumers such as electricity gas and telephone. Consumers are liable to pay to utility service provider and utility service providers pay to state to use there infrastructure.
They're all thieves here too. Naturally there's consistent power but all of them overcharge. I'm with energyaustralia and sometimes my bills are ridiculous. It's just a higher form of thievery.
Sorry mate. I live in Australia either and nothing is owned by Government.Other than main generation company However, they have strong control over the outsourced companies. Moreover, everything is regulised and strictly monitored and audited. Healthy competition is one of the important factor to keep things intact.
The point is the prices of electricity is too high cause they make electricity from turbines ran by fossil fuels which is mind boggling because the petrol has to be imported and it's expensive. It all should be hydel power because it's cheap maintain and there are many rivers in Pakistan but there are no dams that were built in the past 40 years because of corruption or bad management but it's a different argument. Their service is crap too e.g if an area's transformer is blown they don't even bother to come and fix it till at least a day has passed even though they are free and there is no obstacle in their way like rain or the lack of electricians or engineers. I know this because of personal experience. Although everyone pay's their bill on time and there is a little bit of load shedding like 30 mins or an hour. I am currently living abroad and the concept of load shedding is an alien concept. Instead of improving the system they make excuses. If you know that karachi has extreme rains you should already be prepared and there is ample of time like the rest of the year to improve the system like making it all underground and I'm not saying they should do all of this all in a day but do this gradually but they're making excuses and aren't ready to take responsibility and their arguments are null and void because electricity is a part of "infrastructure". Who are they waiting for .K Electric sorry to say are for the lack of a better word "corrupted" I hope you understand me
No they don't make it from deisel ... They keep their Deisel Generators off. (Petrol is never used for big projects) They make electricity from SSGC Gas. And don't pay SSGC bills.
I am associated with the power sector for the last 5 years more specifically with Generation side. I don't agree with the arguments they have presented with regard to the competitions and the justification they have provided for faults. Yesterday, NEPRA holds hearing for the termination of exclusivity of KE but right after that KE threatens to move to International courts incase of termination of exclusivity. they are solely doing face savings and nothing more.
Because it will cost in the hundreds of billions. You will have to extend the infrastructure to power them and for a city the size of Karachi, the impact will not be small. Not to mention, the maintenance costs will also increase due to addition of more problem prone wiring. Even in a city as small as Islamabad, do not have smart meters. They did a feasibility but the estimates were too high to even consider making a PC-1.

I wonder how her students turned up. Useless I suppose.
I disagree with the fact when in starting she said that ' the place build for 6 people...now occupies 80 p in tower and so we have to work again'
I mean how could a firm say that...in India companies competes with each other to get new work and make their revenue
Why you use different rates for different slaps if you are producing electricity on a flat rate?

Both the representatives of KE are well prepared.. har sawal ka jawab hai inke pas.
5:50 onwards I contradict to what she says. Are you serious!? 75% Karachi population is load shed free? Don't joke, it is hard to laugh
exactly
She said 75 percent of Karachi is loadshed free, she meant 75 percent of Karachi's area, not population. It is quite possible that more people live in the 25 percent area that is not loadshed free. I hope that clears up your confusion.
It is not even funny instead it just makes me furious!

We have been thoroughly informed that the E-connections will be given to the residence in a week or so, after submitting some form in KE’s electric scheme for *Gulshan-e-Hadeed.*
This has been going on for some time yet nothing mentionable is done.

Aur India main har cheez government own karti hai
In Spain and all over the Europe the same
They're all thieves here too.
@@imgguru1277 I am agree with
Sir Karachi have more problem then other cities in Pakistan

(Petrol is never used for big projects)

Good Question Junaid Bhai Good Question
I am associated with the power sector for the last 5 years more specifically with Generation side. I don't agree with the arguments they have presented with regard to the competitions and the justification they have provided for faults.
Yesterday, NEPRA holds hearing for the termination of exclusivity of KE but right after that KE threatens to move to International courts incase of termination of exclusivity. they are solely doing face savings and nothing more.
To be honest there should be competition, as it would break the monopoly, and then these companies would serve us better.
Someone, please save that table from this girl

Why we are not installing smart meters, just like telecom company, you pay what you consume.
Bro you know even a backward country like SUDAN is giving the same service to their peoples but hum zinda qoum hai painda qoum hai....
They did a feasibility but the estimates were too high to even consider making a PC-1.
they are working on it (smart grid) lekin nhi pata kb takmeel ko pohnchay ga.
