In the late 1960s I was skin diving off a beach in South Florida(Ft Lauderdale) in water that was about 20 ft deep along a rock jetty. Out of nowhere, a single barracuda appeared and stopped facing me about 3 or 4 feet away. He just lingered there for about 10 seconds looking at me and then disappeared. I think he was attracted to the sparkling light from sunlight reflecting off of the bright metal on my face mask. After the encounter, I shot out of the water like a Polaris missile and hightailed it for shore. I never skin-dived at that spot again.

To which the other says: no but I only have to out run you. 3, 2, 1...
In the Caribbean, Barracuda are known to be fearless, if they take interest in you, they don't scare easily & are quiet fast. Divers are wary of them...
I would say the most feared apex predator would be either the great white shark or coastal brown bear/ grizzly bear. Keeping your ass out of the water is a great equalizer for fish predators, but if a bear comes up on you there is no escape if you don't have some heavy firepower
The Orca is the apex predator of the sea, they routinely eat Great White Sharks' fatty and highly nutritious livers as a favourite delicacy while often discarding the remainder of the carcasses. Sharks flee when Orcas are around. Orcas are the perfect combination of intelligence, speed, power and teamwork and unlike Great White Sharks, Orcas have no natural predators.
All fish are in THEIR element and it is OUR risk to enter it. No fish is bad! However wearing a position light in a night dive has induced barracudas to hunt it thus hurting divers. Staying close in larger groups is safer. Avoid fixing the light to the valve as it is close to your neck but rather to the tank belt.
Barracudas in the open ocean are very dangerous. You don't want to shoot it or provoke it, most likely to launch straight at you. Any Barracuda over 5ft, attacking you, is surely a fatal affair.
Korn dog, how many Cuda's have attach you, if someone put a spear in me I would attach them too. So, best thing to do is don't provoke them.
