The South Pasadena Gap (Interstate 710) - A Flyover of a Freeway That Was Never Finished

- Interstate 710 is one of LA County's principal economic routes, but it never ended up reaching its intended destination in Pasadena. For fifty years, resident groups, the Department of Transportation, and the state judicial system were at odds over whether and how to complete this 4.6-mile gap. Take a flight across the South Pasadena Gap, complete with a view of CA-710, downtown Pasadena's very own stub freeway.

Magnificent, kinda sad to see that I-710 was never finished. And even when it pops up back in mind, it will cost like 1 billion to compensate for the destroyed houses.
Greetings from NIMBYLand! As if traffic wasn't bad enough...
I remember going to the one of the advisory meetings that Metro hosted regarding Interstate 710, the residents wre just angry and bitter. One of the proposals was that they wanted light rail from Valley to Interstate 210. It is silly because South Pasadena was also the same town that opposed the contruction of the Foothill Blue Line (which later became the initial Gold Line from Union Station to Sierra Madre Villa Station). The whole alternatives for Interstate 710 is another one of those sabotages all because South Pasadena and parts of Pasadena feel that their town is the "Center of the Universe".
The right of the masses over the elite few build that freeway

Is It Funny Or Serious That The I-710 Has Never Been Completed?
So does this mean we’re getting it connected? Am confused
no because of how much disagreement theres been it most likely will never be connected
@@p3n1_85 that sucks i would love if they had it all connected
Why not ask elon musk for an estimate with his new tunnel company. He brags it cheaper than others. My guess though it's probably better to do nothing. A tunnel through here will no doubt be bumper to bumper. It would be a challenge with the car exhaust fumes. Not to mention earthquakes.
South Pasadenan here. We’ve heard proposals about tunneling the 710 for decades. Most people oppose such measures because of fears of ground instability and potential damage to historic buildings, and because tunneling will still cause a massive amount of disruption and displacement.
I personally support the tunnel idea because completing the 710 will be better for SoCal as a whole, even if it hurts South Pas. But I’d probably get crucified by my neighbors if I said that publicly.
Tunnel would of been sick
Nah, just build it, why makes things complicated
