- Charlie is a 2015 Indian Malayalam-language adventure drama film directed by Martin Prakkat and written by Prakkat and Unni R. Produced by Prakkat, Joju George and Shebin Becker, the film stars Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy. The music is composed by Gopi Sundar, while Jomon T. John handles the cinematography. The film released on 24 December. It won 8 awards at the 46th Kerala State Film Awards, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Cinematography. It was remade into Marathi and Tamil as Deva and Maara, respectively.
Maara is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by Dhilip Kumar in his directorial debut, and produced by Prateek Chakravorty and Shruti Nallappa of Pramod Films. An adaptation of the 2015 Malayalam film Charlie by Martin Prakkat, the film stars Madhavan, Shraddha Srinath and Sshivada, reprising the roles played by Dulquer Salmaan, Paravthy Thiruvothu and Aparna Gopinath in the original counterpart.

Nona, you must watch the movie "Vikruthi". It is a very relevant movie based on a true incident. Starring Soubin and Suraj. Suraj Venjaramoodu has his one of the career best performance in this film. It is actually underrated.

Charlie is a Feeling. It's a way of life. When life gets monotonous , we could just watch Charlie and feel alive again like nothing matters. They should have let it be. The most important part about Charlie is he is not tied to any commitment, he just happens to people and change their lives forever but maara on contrary is someone whose life is dedicated to finding Meenakshi. He is so tied to this cause. And not to mention, bloody he rides an Indian.. It just didn't make sense.
I watched Charlie again right after watching it just to feel relieved. Please let the good movies BE..🙏
Charlie was the last film featuring Kalpana(actress who played Mariya/Queen mary). Kalpana died a few months after the release of Charlie. A very sudden death and she left a huge vacuum. A laughter queen. Her combination scenes with Jagathy and Innocent were my favourites.
She was an EVERGREEN star...
Charlie was brilliant and Dulqar was the Magic. The creative team was fabulous and Artistic.. Historic Malayalam movie.
Mara missed lot. So cannot compare.

കനിയെ രക്ഷിക്കുന്ന സീൻ അവളുടെ മൂഡ് മാറ്റുന്ന രീതി... ജീവിതത്തെ പറ്റിയുള്ള പുള്ളിയുടെ attitude കാണുന്ന പ്രേക്ഷകന്റെ mind വരെ മാറ്റിയ ആ മാജിക് ന്റെ ഒരംശം പോലും maraa യിൽ അനുഭവിക്കാൻ പറ്റിയില്ല.
Maara ലെ കനി പെട്ടെന്ന് തന്നെ അവളുടെ ദുഃഖം മാറി ചിരി മുഖത്ത് വരുന്നത് ഒരു സുഖം തോന്നിയില്ല. പിന്നെ ഹാർലി ഒക്കെ പുള്ളിയുടെ വീട്ടിൽ പോയി എടുത്തോണ്ട് വരാനുള്ള സമയം കിട്ടിയോ ആവോ. എന്തായാലും ആ scene ഇൽ ഉള്ള ആ ഒഴുക്ക് മിസ്സ് ആയി.

I watched ennu ninte moideen in theatre and charlie on dvd . Even though moideen was better than charlie i can never watch moideen again, never . It's too painful. Whereas I've watched charlie over 10 times. Each time it's an experience. Still regret missing it on theatre

Watched both, if you've watched Charlie you won't like Maara that much. There are glimpses of surprises here and there, the change in story doesn't make much impact especially the climax scenes. If you've never watched Charlie then you'll probably like Maara pont add a good watch. Charlie was a while another level ❤❤

Unni's stories don't work in most places, mainstream Tamil movie is one such place.. They tried their best to adapt it into a Madhavan movie , but then it was destined to fail from the beginning.. Let's applaud the effort.

Gr8 review...Had watched both...and I liked both...Well for me what I liked about Maara is that they did not copied frame by frame...one more interesting thing I liked about Maara is the way colors in the b.ground has been depicted...u r right, Fort Kochi is smthng diff in their lifestyle...i am a Mumbaikar and what i remember when last i had visited mayb sm 10-12yrs ago(the lifestyle and culture are really unique and even i felt surprised to see they r not that diff than Mumbai...yet very unique...ohh ys the bottom that DQ wore...a unique part of it)...nw cmng to acting wise...i felt Shradhha Srinath really did well...she was on her own...Moulee also did awessome...Shivada was also awessome...esp her intro scene...Alexander Babu felt was unique...Madhavan ofcourse is good...The entire plot and characters i felt we should not compare...coz each pf them did their bit supper....like KPAC in Charlie and Seema in Maara..u cant compare the culture that has been set...i wud rather put this as Liberal in their own approach...my feeling to all is pls watch both...u will feel the goose bumps and the real emotion connect👍👍👍

The beauty of malayalam cinema is it's collaborative efforts. We have always seen main stream actors acting in supporting role and supporting actors doing mainstream. Not only with actors but this is happening with crew behind as well. In upcoming Martin Prakkat's Nayaattu movie, DOP is done by Shyju Khalid who is director of unda and editing by Mahesh Narayanan, the director of take off and c u soon. I don't think this happens in any other movie industries :)

Good review.. I too was disappointed in "Maara" but it is more of an emotional narrative portraying Meenakshi story.. Kalpana's character is one of the best performances ever by her.. missed the Charm of Charlie which was all the more saddening since I love Madhavan too and he too is charismatic but the narrative turned out to be in a totally different way from Charlie..

I agree with your review. The name of the movie should have been Meenakshi instead of Maara! There was too much importance given to the Meenakshi subplot and the ending was too emotional instead of magical.
It was depressing expecting that charlie vibe in the film, i was expecting that curious moments every now and then throughout the movie nevertheless got nothing but many boring scenes. If they had used the same bgm of charlie, maara could have made a good impact. Totally disappointed watching maara.

I've watched Charlie more than 20 times but still cant get enough of it. I'm ready to watch another 20 or 30 times.
One of My fav scene in Charlie is the conversation between Charlie and kani ..and interaction scene between them ...I don't want to change anything from that scenes and lose the feeling of it
