    I mowed a 4.25-acre horse pasture with mine not long ago. That was an experience. It had a wide ditch in it and the banks were rather steep. It worked out beautifully as I was able to reach up from the bottom and down from the top to get it all. The old craters created by the horses were rough on the back though and wasn't like mowing a lawn. Very bumpy and divots all over the place. My back was killing me when I finished. It is very satisfying to be able to do mowing for people that they have no way of doing. The versatility and flexibility of the mower makes doing tasks like this very enjoyable even if you get bounced around all over the field. The homeowner was very satisfied with the outcome, and it looked amazing when done. She wasn't sure what it would look like when I told her it would look much like her mowed yard when done. The grass being in the chamber chewed up the debris and didn't leave it looking like a hay field when completed like a rotary mower would. I have never regreted this purchase.

    I like this sort of thing. Seeing you work puts me in mind of watching SCDOT with their John Deere tractors with Tiger mowers. Tiger makes everything from flails to boom mowers too. My favorite product from their line up was the Ford Tigermaster. It could be equipped with any Tiger attachment but once attached it becomes nearly non removable meaning it’s an intergraded part of the Ford. There could be two to three Ford Tigermasters working on the same project. Like the first one would have a boom with seven saw blades to trim trees. Then the next one would have a side mounted mower to cut the grass and limbs up. Then across the road where no trees would be there would be one with three flails cutting grass. Two at the side of the tractor and the other mounted on the three point to get maximum coverage. The side mounted flails can move up and down for slopes. Maybe one day you can bring home one of those bad boys from the auction

    I run the 61" Maschio offset flail on my 2038R, and it seems to handle it well. I have 22 acres of terraced meadow, with a combination of kinda level and very steep. I'm usually mowing 12" to 36" grass and weeds and volunteer corn. On the kinda level land the flail behaves itself well, and there are very few adjustments. On the steep terrace walls or ditches I do make frequent adjustments, but I couldn't really mow them at all with a brush hog or belly mower. I like being able to drive in the mowed track with the mower extended to the right. That seems to keep my radiator a lot cleaner, and I don't have trouble with grass standing back up in the tire track. It seems like the right tool for me.

  • @Slider68

    When using our offset flail I keep our hydraulic top link installed so I can easily adjust the cutting height from the tractor.
    With a dirt pile like that, rather than attempting to raise it with the tractor's 3-point, I find extending the top link to raise the cutting height is a better option.
    Edit: I agree with your final assessment. In general it does make the difficult easy and can make the easy mowing more difficult.

    I agree with you Tim. I bought a 50hp boomer to run a 6' tilt/extend flail for pond banks and road ditches in the Ozarks (mountains). It is great, but terrible for field maintenance. It will actually mow my 5 acre yard as well as my brand new Ferris 800 zero turn. But bought the zero turn as the Boomer and flail are not ideal for a yard. Also, just bought a new 6' rotary. Ideal for field maintenance. Was buying a 7' rotary and my wonderful dealer said, "The Boomer 50 will run a 7' but the 6' will be easier and faster." He was right! Even with the 6' temperatures are high in 30 minutes with a hydrostat. I know this is the hydrostat, as a gear drive 45 hp has no problems with a 10' rotary.

    • @joebarrett9830
      @joebarrett9830 5 місяців тому +1

      The mower only extends out to the right side. Going the other way it would follow behind the tractor and still turn away slightly as it's behind the tractor. He figured it out that he had to back up to it and basically go straight to cut it. It's just a little more challenging as you have to use the 3 point lift arms, plus the hydraulic adjustment on the top of the 3 point as well as using the two cylinders on the mower itself. Lots to pay attention to all at the same time.

    Have you ever used this mower for just straight field grass mowing? I agree there would be a lot of adjusting necessary when you’re trying to negotiate variable terrain and obstacles, and in high brush areas where you can’t see stumps, etc. I wonder if there’s a lot less tweaking in just straight pasture grass, consistent terrain. Also, would a wider flail be less susceptible to smaller terrain differences?

    I have a new segment for consideration, Subscriber Regrets. I have a Kubota B series at my home which is separate from the equipment on the farm. I wanted a mower for the ditches and banks in our neighborhood. You can't see to pull out. A B series is light for an offset flail mower which is what I would have chosen but against my better judgement I ordered a Samaria Brush Mower. The only way this thing could be a bigger piece of crap is to be an inch longer. If you move extremely slowly it will cut 1" brush but the teeth will bend along the serrated edges locking up the machine. This will happen sporadically but if you continue to work the motor backward and forward they will often break off allowing you to continue wasting time with this thing. I returned to the shop to smooth the teeth the first few times it happened but it wasn't going to stop. The only thing it does worse than trim brush is cut grass. If you have a small tractor you're not getting an offset mower but there is weed killer and small tractors handle sprayers just fine. The spray is cheaper anyway. This thing was 2,200 reasons to get my head outa my butt !
    If a dinky company wants to send ya stuff review it and simply tell how it preformed. Not necessarily good or bad just what it does. This Samaria company makes a lot wilder claims than what it could do. You could say it would cut larger brush if this tractor had more flow but the teeth bent with the flow I have. I didn't let them get in a bind to bend either, these were extremely slow/stopped straight forward cutting.

    Don’t you need a slow moving vehicle sign on the back of the tractor when on a County Road?

      @TractorTimewithTim When did I say anything about Christians? You're implying and playing the victim. This discussion is about keeping politics out of business. You used your business platform to speak politics just as JD did. Now you want to change the narrative that I attacked your Christianity is absurd. Is this a nonprofit Christian channel or a profitable tractor channel?
