That was a lot of work. It makes ME tired! Ha! It was neat seeing your progress next to the driveway. Slowly, but surely, the dirt was moving along, and the excavator was compacting a path. Soon, the cars will be able to get inside the garage. I look forward to finding new videos from this property.
I was having flashbacks watching you push dirt towards the house with the bucket… A contractor did that while I stepped away and he hit the wall with the bucket causing it to collapse. Laying blocks in the same spot for the second time was not my idea of fun! His insurance paid for it… Second time was a charm… it’s been there for 30 years!
Hi Tim, I'm a general contractor a manage total rennos similar to this for a living. In my experience people who take this type of job themselves are often architects of thier own misfortune.
I had a neighbor design and build his own home. I warned him about several things and he chose to ignore them. He has a side entry 3 car garage that he cannot get cars into because the driveway is too narrow. It is nice being an engineer.
That looked like a daunting task, but your patience and perseverance succeeded again. And of course Christy’s great work with Vinny and editing, made it look easy…from where I sit😉. Blessings.
Tim, you operate that Kubota excavator very proficiently! Good job! At the same time, I think a skid loader or compact track loader could have performed the job quicker; but we work with the tools at our disposal. Thanks for the video!
Contractors can be a pain. We hired a plumber to install 2 toilets, water heater and water softener. So after a few months the water softener stopped working. We never could get him to answer the phone or emails. It's like he fell off the earth. Called a guy to fix the sewer issues, he came out gave us a quote and never heard from him again. We had the septic pumped out and the guy says he knows a guy who can eliminate your problems. My wife calls him and he is just getting over heart bypass so it would be after his grandson got out of school. We thought the kid was older, he's about 13 years old. So the guy comes out with his Case backhoe and starts digging and putting in new pipe. He starts back filling but I got tired of standing out there watching them, so went in the house. A few minutes later there is a knock on the door, the kid says we're done. So the wife writes him a check. Later on I walk out there and he had never back filled just a little. I'm ticked off. I told my wife chancel the check but she doesn't. This dug the trench to close to 3 trees that I cannot get my tractor very close. Missouri is so rocky that I would have to pick up rocks put them in a bucket and dump them in my tractor bucket to get rid of them. That's not what I will do, I will let mother nature do it. We did hire an electrician and he will come out whenever we call him.
"mental bandwidth" still got some brain cells in software development Tim ;) I'm not having much luck with contractors either. Devon's first time on a tractor and you give him turbo Johnny X :D Great to see their property improvement a bit at a time.
you might get your brothers to purchase a small dozer like a 450g , then you can borrow like they do you - a suggestion would be down at nashville/ brown county there is C&C surplus equipment - good people to deal with
Great video contractors really stink sometimes it’s hard to find a good one I feel the home owners pain one of main reasons I I bought a compact tractor that and I’m a giant kid a heart
I was wondering if you have to move the dirt more than once or twice if you built a little pathway and used the grader to push longer distances down the center of a pile and leave the berms to the side so the dirt can be pushed even higher with the blade without spilling out the sides
nice work, was wondering the reasoning for removing the concrete?? I have a HOLE (40' x 60') that goes from nothing to about 8-10' deep, so far I have put 188 tons of busted concrete in that hole, and could actually use another load or two as fill, and I know pictures and video can be deceiving, but in the low area and the drainage concerns could a culvert not be utilized??? again Nice work, and looked like Devin will make a good hand😉👍🙏
Renovating a home can be very stressful. Lots of different contractors doing different jobs and often one contractors work depends on another contractors work. Often delays happen for many different reasons, outside of the contractors control. From weather, to other projects delay, to tradespeople sickness, to emergency demands such as fire, flood etc. It isn't necessarily that they did not "show integrity". And to say that "every single contractor" was like that likely isn't fair. It is my experience that it more likely the homeowner's expectations don't match the reality of construction. Things happen, especially in a renovation, that are not expected. Rot is discovered; bad weather moves in; colors change, products are unavailable; etc. etc.
Also notice how much you are packing that dirt with the treads of the excavator. Cheap machine to run back and forth walking that dirt in like a small dozer
Contractors aren't what they used to be. They much prefer working with a builder or general construction manager due to volume of work. When the economy is slow they'll take a homeowner job and will quickly put it on the back burner when their "builder" calls. I'm one of those clients that expects a contractor to show up when they say they will and finish the job before sending me an invoice...crazy stuff like that. A no show contractor is why I bought my own tractor.

Great video tim you are making the grading of the dirt look good and it was very nice of you to let Devon use Johnny for rock picking👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I know you aren't finished but that looks 100% better and it's functional for getting more dirt where you want it.
I love that mini excavator. Great purchase for you.

What a nice gentleman Devon is... I'm grateful for his service. Great job on the grading!

The back yard looks much better after grading the piles of soil.
When your little just getting to get in a excavator is a joy happy birthday 🎉

Looks really good
This reminds me of the older Carmel projects, mixed in with new equipment.
Thanks for sharing!
That smooth edge wide bucket is the perfect one for that task.
Loved this video! You look healthy and excited! Thanks for sharing and you are the BEST!
Hmm.
Hmmmm. . hmmm. . .hmm. .
@@billybobs841 hey, you edited that first comment! You cheated :-)
@@TractorTimewithTim Yes I did.... I. Was half sleep when I attempted to do the first one!
Christy,I enjoy when you operate the equipment. My wife hasn't even touched my tractor in the 3yrs I've had it

Low bid?
Great video! Keep up these vids.
Great job btw,both of you!!
Your excavator is quite a machine!
Great video!
Tim you did have personal things come up that this job went on hold
A 4-6 Ton mini with the 6 way blade option can accomplish much of what a small D3 type dozer can do, just slower
"mental bandwidth" still got some brain cells in software development Tim ;) I'm not having much luck with contractors either. Devon's first time on a tractor and you give him turbo Johnny X :D Great to see their property improvement a bit at a time.
Tim you should try a tilting ditching/grading bucket on the kubota
GREAT Video. This is a hard site to work in too many obstructions in the way... 😮😅
Please get a pad foot compactor on it. Should have had one to use to pack every 6”-12” lift. Asking for issues later not properly compacting it now.

We have a 57 excavator and a 65 skid steer and 1025r and 3033r
Great video contractors really stink sometimes it’s hard to find a good one I feel the home owners pain one of main reasons I I bought a compact tractor that and I’m a giant kid a heart
Hey Tim its wouldnt be a bad idea for you to get a 410 John Deere angle blade dozer for jobs like this!
I can see how that was discouraging after you get had roughed it in nicely.
Do you have the angle capability for the blade on your Kubota mini excavator?. A tilting feature would be awesome.
Yes angle, do not have tilt.
@@TractorTimewithTim OK I was just wondering if you had any of those options on your equipment.
Would you be able to push those dirt piles with the 5 series tractor?
Maybe, to some degree. But it would be awkward on some of the detail work.
I was wondering if you have to move the dirt more than once or twice if you built a little pathway and used the grader to push longer distances down the center of a pile and leave the berms to the side so the dirt can be pushed even higher with the blade without spilling out the sides

Pretty basic question Tim, but does the blade come as standard on the mini excavator, or is it an option?
Yep, all mini Excavators have blades. This one has hydraulic angle which is an upgrade.

Tim is going over to the dark side of excavators... next thing he will have a Volvo 350 out there
Looks like you need Clint at C&C to find you a baby dozer you can haul. That is about all your missing.
I bucket of dirt at a time. 1 gravel load later and your going to have an incredible property. Remember an inch it's a cinch a yard it's hard
That is an awesome deal. You may create another tractor owner.
I dunno. His wife is gonna be a hard sell. She says ‘NO’ pretty firmly at this point :-)
A skid steer would have been handy for this project.
For some reason Facebook has hidden you from me.i have the bell for notifications but haven't been notified.
It happens! Thanks for noticing!

No blade for Vinnie?
Yea, have a blade for Vinny
Going from a police officer to a fireman, it’s like jumping out of a kettle into the fire. (Oof, pun/dad joke intended).

if that had been poured right with rebar, you would not have been able to break it up..
let him use johnny x so perhaps he may get one himself, seems he has the property for it.

The guy can't be bothered keep weeds down?
They did for awhile. Unfortunately, it was so ‘rough’ that it all had to be done by hand with weed eater. They eventually gave up.
The sound of your voice was very low. Could barely hear you.
For part of it..yes. Something wrong with the mic. Sorry
