Puma Jones last known radio interview by American reggae DJ Doug Wendt on Midnight Dread radio. Entire interview available for purchase at www.midnightdread.com.
I went to school with her at Columbia and when she boarded the plane for Jamaica, we had no idea she would be such an icon. She was a dear friend. I truly miss her. #OneLovePuma Miss you, girl.
Linda Burke-Galloway pls tell me what her personal relationships with boys looked like
She was a warrior. Nuff said
Saw her on a record cover in the early eighties when i got heavily into roots reggae and fell in love with her.Itwas hard back in those days to get pictures or news about bands and artists we liked, so when I got a Black Uhuru poster, I was really exited. I learned quite late, that she passed away and it made me so sad ..I adored her so much and still do ...bless her soul. Peace out from Germany.
Linda burke G...HEY...i was a black uhuru since i was a boy in my village...backway...in early 90s...where did P JONES went?
@@thuowanjiku2550 you were her fan but you don't know she passed away....mmmh...
Black Uhuru is not Black Uhuru without Puma. Her vocals were essential to the unique sound of the group.
IntoTheFray you right
You're correct, Black Uhuru was never as good without miss Puma Jones.
Honorable mention Sly and Robbie also...
Very true deyah
right Michael Rose added to the group too...that's when Black Uhuru was best
Saw Black Uhuru in 1981 at the Rainbow Theatre in London. The line up was Michael, Puma & Duckie, they were awesome, best reggae band i've ever seen. RIP Puma ✌🏿🖤🙏🏿💫🎼❤
Puma was the heartbeat of Black Uhuru
Me a tell yu
RIP Puma. I got hooked to these guys, Black Uhuru in 1984 as i debuted college and the memory has stuck since. I kind of fell in love with Puma's melancholic back up voice which to me is the real signature of Black Uhuru if you will...
Since I was a yout man of 8 or 9 years old I found something mystifying about the sound of the GREAT black uhuru ...and it wasn't until I grew a little older o was actually able to separate and isolate the hauntingly beautiful and effortless vocal of Queen Puma, may your soul rest in eternal peace , your contribution to the art of reggae music is solidified within the very history of it !
I think somewhere inside of me I'm obsessed with this woman! What a mystical Goddess! There's so much we didn't get to know about her. She escaped NY and lived an amazing life!
How can I order the recording? I tried to get it on line and I can't find it.
Empress Sandra Puma Jones from Columbia, SC.
Big ups, much LOVE.
I've had a crush on this woman for ages. Left us too soon and too young.
She would have loved that *the crush). She was a Libra, very spiritual, very mystical and fun loving. Oh, the parties she would take us to when we were in grad school. Parties in beautiful, huge apartments in Harlem where jazz ensembles would play. She was a very wise sage. I'm blessed to have known her as a colleague and friend. She was a deep sister.
@@DrLindaOBGYN What about a Tauras lol, loved her too very pretty, thanks for sharing a short history of her.
Christopher Schmitt You’re very welcome. Thanks for keeping her memory Ali e 😊
@@DrLindaOBGYN Wow. I bet those were some of the coolest partied ever to happen in the history of the world. And you were there!!!
I have always adored and had a crush on her. Her beauty, her eloquence. Just love her spirit. RIP beautiful sister.
She was a true inspiration and her work speaks volumes!!! We need more artists like her in todays music scene, cause to be honest superstars like Rihana or Kanye west, just don't offer much in regards to awaking people's consciousness through music....
When singing she had the voice of an angel, R.I.P peace Puma. Respect from the UK.
So nice to hear her voice. They been my favorite reggae band for the longest. Never knew she was American. I fuckin love her even more now
I love how she kept much of her southern accent. I also love how she considered her move from NYC to be "escaping from New York." In the USA many of us from the south can relate to that. So proud of her!
May God rest her soul...Great Puma Jones!!! Peace
Thanks for blessing us with your voice. Mrs PJ
Didn't know she hold a master degree and escape from boring city life only to be found by Black Uhuru.
Fierce and Gracious.
1982 Paris, the Olympia, Album Chill Out,
this gig changed my Life FOREVER.
Thanks Black Uhuru. Love Puma Jones...
"Emotional Slaughter" one of my top ten song playing in the Background, Bliss...
Saw them open for the Clash - frankly, they were the better band that night.
Wow. Thank you for providing terrific viewing. A social worker in NYC with a masters from Columbia. I just minutes ago listened to my first Black Uhuru record and after it was over watched this video. I don't listen to reggae often at all but the floodgates have opened. I Have always wanted to listen to Eek a Mouse
So young to go,a rare women with great talent, her lovely face and voice will live forever.
Major contributor to the Greatest Reggae Band of all time. RIP
Great people of our times who lived to see reggae music live. Bless up and RIP Sandra Puma Jones

Yes really admire Puma Jones. A unique talent. Thank you for posting this.
I heard that she passed away but wasn't sure... I can't believe it as she added so much to the group.

loved you so much puma, wish i had the chance to meet you
Rest In Power Queen 🖤
Michael Rose was the voice of Black Uhuru, Duckie the heart and Puma, the soul. Never been the same without Puma. It really hurts that she passed on at such a tender age. Miss her so...
And Duckie was the General!
@@sinceunati Yes, he was but laid back. A "quiet" force.
very intelligent and wise. Puma forever! Reggae Icon.
Strong Sista of my gen. Iternal Life , yes!!!
Stronger than strong
thanks a lot. in this interview, she told about some track she was writing that time;
I wish she could recorded those tunes.
the only one she recorded was "city vibes", from brutal. What an amazing track!

Loving this one thanks for sharing very information blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
yo this is gold man bless up for this ! puma jones ultra rare i thought she was jamaican she was american really increadible story wow Rip Puma Jones!
She was born in South Carolina but raised in Harlem. She was also an Ivy League graduate of Columbia University School of Social Work.
she seemed to blend in because we share the same blood i dont see any difference i also thought she had to be jamaican to even sing in a hardcore reggae band she was very strong willed
I also thought she was Jamaican. It just goes to show that reggae music comes from the heart & soul and not always from where you’re born. I saw them in 1985/86 in Ann Arbor Michigan. It was wonderful !!!
@@stevielindsay8880 WOW i wish i was there imagine them playing Guess Whos Coming To Dinner!!! Vybz!!!!
Great information from people that knew her love to hear her story and what she truly contributed
YEA I GUESS THIS WAS JUST POSTED CAUSE IM THE ONLY ONE COMMENTING ON SUCH A FANTASTIC WOMAN?????? WELL I GUESS I WILL PROUDLY HOLD THE HONOR OF MY SISTER MEMORIES
Someday I want to go and lay a bouquet of tiger lilies on her grave. What an amazing woman. There's nobody like Black Uhuru.
According to wikipedia, after her passing away, "She was later buried near her family home in South Carolina." Beyond that, I'm afraid I don't know. (If I weren't far away in California, I would have already tried to do this.) There may still be grave-finding websites -- I'll go check, if I find out I'll come back and let you know.
Nope. I looked on FindaGrave.com, but couldn't find her, sorry.
This is probably true. Her father was from South Carolina. Her mother was a beautician in NY and died of breast cancer. Sadly, Puma passed from the same thing. She was very proud of her South Carolina roots.
I didn't realize she was American. Her voice really gives the group that unmistakable Identity. Keep on resting. Your voice leaves on
Legend!
She was, indeed.
How do i get in contact with her son?
She was a great women..one of really African female that wake up good people
What a BLESSED WOMAN.

r.i.p darling
🙏🏾
Totally agree she doesn't get enough respect listen to Duckie ~Simpson his interview recently right here on youtube tells just how she was treated in the end its truly shocking, more light should be shed on how the great woman such a talent, was in the end disrespected and left broken great shame. No mention of her writing for the band either she was truly one of a kind.
What amaze is how Puma Jones predicted the 31st centry talking about destruction and struggles is exactly what's going right now in the 21st centry just imagine 31st centry... RIP sistren
Emotional Slaughter is the most powerful song I've ever heard, stronger than Maggot Brain
Puma Is pure love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I describe her sound as dreary melodic... Definitely one of a kind
