Chuck I want to say thank u for your messages on being a vegan. Being a vegan is the best diet in the world. My joints feel healthier and stronger. I eat more being a vegan and stay fuller much longer. I eat one meal a day and have no cravings. I have no cravings for sweets. I also shop cooking with oils and get my oils from nuts and seeds. Husband and I have been making the switch. We cut out dairy, then most eggs, definitely had to add back carbs (except wheat-very little there). At one point we were very hungry and loosing weight is not good for us. Pretty much just meat and fruit and veggies low on carbs. Now we are just having some meat a dinner just to use up our supply. We don't want to waist the life that gave it to us. Eat the carbs!! Thanks so much. I'm so grateful to have all these amazing resources to make the transition.

Chuck, that's an important issue, having a comfortable bowel movement. it's just as important as lower heart attacks, and breast cancer. So, don't shy away from the topic of BM's. For people who have hard, uncomfortable movements, going vegan really helps.

Definitely for long term vegan eaters rather than newbies... ‘just’ throwing out animal products and then ‘just’ taking out the oils, does NOT just happen. One has to find out how to cook/prepare a completely new diet, experiment with quantities, find different products at your nearby shops, find new taste profiles etc etc. I see over and over again that long-termers tend to forget that for those of us who are heading over to WFPBed that this really is a journey, especially if you are preparing food for a whole family and there is no such thing as a vegetarian (let alone vegan) restaurant or take home pre-prepared foods at the stores. Ps. I have been on a 21-day no animal based challenge and loved how I felt. However... was really craving for dairy and a steak! The main problem though is that I am nastily intolerant to oats (including gluten free oats) and wheat. And because I am not familiar with preparing chickpeas, lentils, beans etc I found I was not eating enough and was hungry the whole time. Going to truly healthy eating IS a journey...
Thankfully my wife has been doing this for close to a year so the transition is easy for me. I already was a whole foods person and workout regularly. Just had a moral change of mind so that makes not eating animal products easy peasy. Feels pretty darn good honestly!

I found a UA-cam channel I am a big fan of (RainbowPlantLife), she has wonderful recipes that do take a bit of time to make but are worth the time and if you love Indian food :). The recipe below I have made multiple times and can recommend that one along with her red lentil curry. The one linked below has a spinach sauce that you make in a blender and you can also just take the spinach sauce and serve it over pasta or use it as a really well flavored gingery garlicky sauce. When you suss it vegan meals are really really tasty, make a stock& every time recipe say ad water, add stock instead, specially in sauces. I’ve given up meat, dairy, and oil since 5/10/21. I feel great and I’m losing weight. I’ve lost 12+ pounds since starting. My question is, I eat an avocado almost daily and I was wondering if there is any negative to eating that much avocado even while losing weight? I eat rice almost daily also. My exercise currently is mowing my yard with a push mower and dumping the bag frequently, and all the other yard work.
if it ain't broke, don't fix. There's no reason to become a "fundamentalist" in regards to your diet. If you're losing weight, and blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose aren't in a good range, there's no reason to change what you're doing.
My breakfast consists of a glass of water, an apple, a garden salad that takes about 20 minutes to chop up with a 5 calorie per 2 tablespoon organic salsa & a splash of apple cider vinegar as it's dressing. This salad contains two cups of greens, peppers onions, cucumbers, celery, shredded carrots, cherry tomatoes, diced peaches, pickle slices, and chickpeas. It takes about 20 minutes to eat because there is so much to chew. I'm still under 350 calories at that point, then I have a small banana followed by a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries, and as a desert to this breakfast I have a handful of granola made exclusively from nuts & seeds sweetened with a little cinnamon or dark chocolate -thank you Bear Naked for the great choices. This massive meal is less than 1k calories, but represents the bulk of my calories for the day. I usually follow that up with a lunch that includes another apple followed by a bowl of bean chili with some quinoa and a tablespoon of flaxseed mixed in. It tastes great and this is less than 800 calories. Most days that is what I eat. If I am hungry later I may eat a 200 calorie can of vegetable soup for dinner, but I'm not hungry often, & that gets my all of the daily dozen. Less than 2100 calories on a day when I splurge and have the soup for dinner, less than 1900 calories on most days, but it's a ton of food and food that fills you up.

I remember that it was dr lee Crosby who told me now to tell my doctor if I start having very low glucose levels so now I have been taken off some of my meds. The biggest lesson for me was not to gradually increase the volume of vegetables as I did not know that your stomach needs time to become accustomed to processing so much fibre. I made a huge mistake by starting consuming a very high amount of cruciferous veggies at breakfast, lunch, and dinner when I first started. For example, I was eating one can of chickpeas, 400 grams of broccoli, 350 grams of cabbage, 200 grams of green beans, 2 zucchinis, 8 celery stalks, and 8 asparagus at one meal. I was experiencing bloating and gassing all day, and the worst part was that I thought that was normal, so I continued doing it to the point where my stomach was in pain and I could not fall asleep at night.
I would cut that amount of vegetables in half and eat more fruits or more starches (grains, potatoes, beans). Too many vegetables means too little calories

Just curious, in your opinion, do WFPB and "whole foods plant based" sound academic and vague? Why not "whole plant food" or "whole plant vegan"? WFPB to my ear seems to allow almost anything yet "based on" some portion of "whole plants".
@@vegahimsa3057 I think WFPB sounds simplistic enough that it should be easy to determine if what you are eating falls into the category of something that would be healthy. I think eating and "diets" has become so overwhelmingly complicated that people give up and grab something packaged because it easier than looking it up in the diet encyclopedia. Eating healthy needs to be simple so people can follow through.
@@jillianzebris1726 if flexitarian with a nudge toward whole plants is the intended message, then WFPB is perfect. But it's explicitly less specific than simpler "whole plant", assuming (as I do) that no one is pendanticly confused by the source of B12, mushrooms, yeast, etc.
I have been eating WFPB, all the good stuff and eliminating the fat. However, I just cant get full, especially in the evening. I am literally ravinous. How can I control my appetite late in the day?

I was sick - crippled by disease including a rare autoimmune disease, waking up everyday with pain in my stomach, IBS, allergies, etc. - all gone thanks to a vegan diet and keeping oils to a minimum (not eliminated though) - and I eat a lot of carbs ! I m so healthy now that I can eat avocados or nuts as much as I want ! I don’t need to lose weight now 😂
According to everything I’ve heard wfpb nutritionist say....no, your body does not need evoo. I heard (you might investigate) that it’s better to cook with coconut oil because it can tolerate the heat better. However, it’s even better to air fry without oils.
Need some guidance please. Just thinking about making the switch to WFPB. I’m a 5’2” 60 yo 120 lb healthy woman. But, I’ve never been able to get that “slim” physique (and keep it for any length of time). Will this way of eating get me there permanently and fairly painlessly? Thank you!!
I've found that with meals like pasta, lentils and red sauce, or sweet potato and black bean quesadillas that after a large serving I get to the point where I can't eat another bite. [and that says a lot for me!] If you try to fill up with mostly low energy density veggies [salad, broccolli, etc] and not starchy foods you may end up hungry do to lack of calories.
We have stretch receptors in the stomach, nutrient receptors in the brain, and taste receptors in the stomach and mouth. These are the receptors you need to stimulate to induce satiety. Therefore, eat lots of food or eat more often to keep those stretch receptors activated and you feeling full. Make sure you are stimulating the taste receptors for pleasure, ensuring you are getting the five main flavors in: 1) Salty (celery, salt, miso paste, etc), 2) Sweet (fruit, date paste, maple syrup, etc), 3) Sour (any vinegar or citrus), 4) Bitter (smoked paprika, leafy greens, grapefruit, etc.), 5) Umami (miso paste, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc.), and Spicy which is a sensation rather than a flavor (hot sauce, peppers, herbs and spices, etc). Where many people get issues is the fact that they are used to a higher fat-containing diet before switching to a WFPB diet meaning they are suddenly not eating as much fat and stimulating that type of nutrient receptor as much. Also, animal-based products contain identifiable addictive compounds that lead to a true psychological dependence, and oil and sugar are obviously addictive too. For the first month on the WFPB diet, people often do not feel as satisfied as before because they are not feeding their addiction or stimulating their fat receptors as much anymore, but after being consistent for a month (and you should be consistent or else it’s way more difficult), most people’s psychological dependence on those less desirable foods ease up and those healthier foods tend to become more satiating and pleasurable (especially as the gut microbiome changes, but that’s a whole other discussion). That is why you see all these doctors and scientists pushing 28-day or 1-month WFPB challenges. Because afterwards, the person has learned to love the food and be truly satisfied with it and has been able to feel the difference in their energy levels and quality of life and are then so much more likely to make the choice to make it a long-term change. I struggled with the suddenly lower fat diet myself, but I found that eating a little peanut butter here and there or making creamy dishes out of nuts and seeds to increase my fat intake and continue activating those fat receptors helped a lot to ease into the diet. Personally, I think you should eat to be satisfied for the first month to get used to the diet, then you can worry about lowering the fat intake by reducing those nuts and seeds and avocados as discussed in the video if you really want to lose some weight, or don’t if you’re at a healthy weight. As for “eating more and more veggies,” I would recommend sticking to dietary recommendations. The Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine has recommended a fourth of the volume of your diet being vegetables, a fourth being fruit, a fourth being grains, and the last fourth being legumes with a small amount of nuts and seeds tossed in there, if any. This is based off of evidence that suggests consuming such foods in such proportions would reduce one’s likelihood for chronic illnesses and nutrient deficiencies. I would recommend a varied diet rather than putting too much of a focus on one food group, especially if it’s vegetables. To piggy back on Shari T’s comment, a diet too high in very-low-calorie-density foods such as non-starchy veggies will just not allow you to be satisfied because you will continue to be hungry.

I have heard that the b12 is actually from dirt. That industrial farm animals are also "fortified" with it, because we no longer have the trace dirt in our diets. What is your take on this info?
I had been vegetarian a long time before I realised I had not purchased meat for a long time. I continued to drink milk and eat cheese. I have always had whole meal granary bread and cook fresh. I don't add sugar or salt except when I make jam from fruit I grow and use 20% sugar to fresh fruit. Some friends suggest they made the most gain by stop eating bread and stop having dairy. They lost weight, a little, where I have managed to increase my weight by a kilogram a year for thirty years. The advise I still get from the doctors etc has been "eat less, exercise more" and then to eat white meat and fish and not red meats, not to drink alcohol and reduce sugar from the diet i.e. no help to me at all. I have tried to remove bread from my diet but the alternatives I have tried leave me very hungry mid morning. I also find advise that we can find conflicting and confusing but the solution is down to the individual - one size does not fit all and what works (to loose weight) for one may not for someone else.
Please, please, please try to reach people with Lyme disease, also. This could literally help millions of people. I feel like a million bucks after Lyme almost killed me.
@@CT2507 I can't say for everyone and it's not just vegan, it's whole foods, plants only, no oil. So nothing processed at all. I gave up healing from Lyme and coinfections. I was nearly unable to walk. Switched gears to work on my diabetes and went to the Barnard clinic. The diet inadvertently put my lyme in remission. Not only am I walking, I'm literally climbing mountains and hiking for miles. I'd shout it from the rooftops for any lymie to give it a try if I could.
@@lisajones8730 am very happy for you. im slowly learning about the benefits of a plant based diet and working on transitioning to it to cure metabolism problems. right now im doing a mix of keto and plant based, since i feel i need some of the strength that meat gives. short term i want to get my thyroid and metabolism back into shape. long term i hope to get rid of my allergies.
@@lisajones8730 just wanted to let you know i haven't had meat for 3 days. strictly vegan and only the fat from avocados, no oils. i have had high blood pressure for years. it was between 147 and 170. after just 2 days with no meat and oils it dropped to 129!! am no longer in the high blood pressure group. :) im still dealing with thyroid problems, but i don't get out of breath like before. 4 weeks ago i stopped with alcohol, coffee and sugar. that of course helps too. i'm simply amazed of what a difference a few days on a vegan diet does to the body. now i'm building up strength for some serious liver cleansings to flush out the stones. feeling hopeful again. not going back to meat! cheers. :)

We've been eating meat since we crawled out of the trees but we've been getting type 2 for a whole forty years. People always think that veganism is a natural diet but it isn't. People have never been natural vegans in the whole of history and couldn't be until the 1960s when they started chemically making B12 tablets for human consumption. Man can't live without it and it wasn't discovered until 1948 so before then when people got sick they would be given liver drinks because doctors knew there was something in it that kept them alive. So you see, there isn't a living vegan yet. No one has ever been born and died a vegan. It's dangerous. It's insane.

Yep, being vegan is not enough. Oil/fat, sugar, highly processed foods, drugs, alcohol, chemicals, and additives will take you out too. VEGAN-PLUS and SUPER-VEGAN-PLUS seem like wimpy terms for a healthy WFPB diet, but honestly, they are the best new terms I've heard for a while. Also, Lee Crosby, RD is awesome. Being vegan is nothing to do with whether or not you consume oil, junk foods or smoke, it's a philosophy on ending the exploitation of the other animals by humans, nothing more.
Super plus is great but vague. But no less vague for the majority than the academic WFPB term. IMO, we should call it what it is in the simplest terms: "whole plant vegan".
I ate vegan/no grains for 6 months - I gained weight & my blood sugar got more & more uncontrollable. Is there an explanation for that? ( I didn’t eat ‘junk’ vegan foods & no added sugar. )

@@AlexMonajemi The meat-industry-funded study you are referring to found that people with a vitamin B-12 deficiency experienced permanent shrinkage of the brain and therefore irreversible brain damage. Unfortunately, because we live at a time that our water and vegetables are so clean and free of dirt and bacteria, vegans may tend to be more susceptible to B12 deficiency, although it is still quite rare. Of course the meat industry would lie and say that veganism causes brain shrinkage when in fact it is a B12 deficiency. Fortunately, you can buy a bottle of B12 tablets for five dollars that will last you a whole year if you are in the United States or use supplemented nutritional yeast much like how omnivorous dieters as well as vegans use table salt supplemented with iodine and milk supplemented with vitamin D to prevent deficiencies. The funny part is that people think veganism is an “unnatural” diet because vegans may require supplementation with B12 every once in a while because of modern-day living. What about a long-term omnivorous diet that leaves you with a shorter lifespan and chronic illnesses up the whazoo, not to mention the fact that the omnivorous eater may be more likely than the vegan standing next to him to need nutrient supplementation because of the nutrient dense nature of a plant-based diet. Fortunately, the CDC, the USDA, the U.S. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Cochrane database, the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine, and many other of the world’s most renowned nutrition research groups agree that plant-based diet’s are not only adequate for all stages of life including pregnancy, childhood, and old age but are exceptional at decreasing rates of chronic illness. Speaking of brain health, through mechanisms still being researched but no doubt linked to the inflammatory nature of a meat-containing diet, about a third of people diagnosed with clinical depression who switch to a whole food plant-based diet end up not having depression anymore. Also, a person eating meat is way more likely to have Alzheimer’s later on than a person on a low-inflammatory whole food plant-based diet. If you’re worried about brain health, I’d switch to a plant-based diet if I were you :).
😂You stated you eat N/yeast as part of your b12 consumption, I watched NutritionFacts.org &b12, & learnt from pod cast, that not all Nutritional Yeast has b12, they tested about 6 brands for b12 content, the best brand was Bragg. Watch the vid👍 All the info you will ever need.
Yes, you say That's right. A vegetarian / vegan diet is the best solution to the problem of loss weight. I would say avocado eat well 1 fruit a day. And nuts should be minimized to 5 nuts per day. But excluding meat, bread and sugar to 0 is necessary. These products will help you gain weight.
At some point I’d like to transition to 100% vegan, but currently I eat a can of sardines every day and eat only plant based beyond that one exception. It solves several problems for me.
Byproduct NO it is their food, when honey is taken away, which they worked hard for all summer, it is replaced with sugary chemical slop, so they won’t starve over winter😱
Consult a vegan nutritionist. It's likely IBS is caused by microflora from previous diet. Beans are likely the solution, but the transition may be tricky.

Oil isn't healthful, but nuts are. Some evidence that if you use any oil, olive is a better choice, but still pure fat high calories high Omega 6 : 3 ratio (harmful). Nuts are healthful but can lead to weight gain for some or prevent loss - basically, if you're struggling with weight, greatly limiting or temporarily eliminating nuts and avocados as well as (whole grain) flours can help because these are a lot more calorie dense than other whole foods. One more note on grains is that, unlike with chickpea flour or bean purees, which retain all the whole-bean benefits, grinding in-tact whole grains into flours affects digestion somewhat detrimentally, especially with regard to the (beneficial) gut microbiome. They get a lot out of farro, rice, oats, quinoa - any in-tact grain - but much less out of the flours.
No processed isolated oil is healthy. But many oils are less healthy than others. The ONLY essential fats for adults are ALA and LA, and you (we all) very likely already eat too much LA. Cold pressed extra virgin olive oil is less unhealthy than cow butter or coconut oil, of course, but none are beneficial (except in impossibly contrived theoretical circumstances). All extracted oils (particularly the "healthy" unsaturated oils) go rancid rapidly. Thus the unprocessed whole plants and nuts are the best source of the few necessary and beneficial fats.
Every study that demonstrates a benefit of say olive oil is based on the reduction of other fat sources. The famous huge PREDIMED studies (sponsored by the Spanish olive industry) gave thousands of participants large quantities of fine olive oil for free. Of course, they used more olive oil, and of course they used less butter and probably less of many fatty foods unreported. // Nuts may be different. It seems that even controlling for total food intake, nuts still demonstrate benefit, including perhaps weight loss. However, the evidence is inconsistent.

Husband and I have been making the switch. We cut out dairy, then most eggs, definitely had to add back carbs (except wheat-very little there). At one point we were very hungry and loosing weight is not good for us. Pretty much just meat and fruit and veggies low on carbs. Now we are just having some meat a dinner just to use up our supply. We don't want to waist the life that gave it to us. Eat the carbs!! Thanks so much. I'm so grateful to have all these amazing resources to make the transition.

Definitely for long term vegan eaters rather than newbies... ‘just’ throwing out animal products and then ‘just’ taking out the oils, does NOT just happen. One has to find out how to cook/prepare a completely new diet, experiment with quantities, find different products at your nearby shops, find new taste profiles etc etc. I see over and over again that long-termers tend to forget that for those of us who are heading over to WFPBed that this really is a journey, especially if you are preparing food for a whole family and there is no such thing as a vegetarian (let alone vegan) restaurant or take home pre-prepared foods at the stores.
Ps. I have been on a 21-day no animal based challenge and loved how I felt. However... was really craving for dairy and a steak! The main problem though is that I am nastily intolerant to oats (including gluten free oats) and wheat. And because I am not familiar with preparing chickpeas, lentils, beans etc I found I was not eating enough and was hungry the whole time.
Going to truly healthy eating IS a journey...
Thankfully my wife has been doing this for close to a year so the transition is easy for me. I already was a whole foods person and workout regularly. Just had a moral change of mind so that makes not eating animal products easy peasy. Feels pretty darn good honestly!

Hi Ann, I completely agree with what you said! It's definitely a journey and learning a new way of cooking and shopping. I found a UA-cam channel I am a big fan of (RainbowPlantLife), she has wonderful recipes that do take a bit of time to make but are worth the time and if you love Indian food :). The recipe below I have made multiple times and can recommend that one along with her red lentil curry. The one linked below has a spinach sauce that you make in a blender and you can also just take the spinach sauce and serve it over pasta or use it as a really well flavored gingery garlicky sauce. I’ve given up meat, dairy, and oil since 5/10/21. I feel great and I’m losing weight. I’ve lost 12+ pounds since starting. My question is, I eat an avocado almost daily and I was wondering if there is any negative to eating that much avocado even while losing weight? I eat rice almost daily also. My exercise currently is mowing my yard with a push mower and dumping the bag frequently, and all the other yard work.
if it ain't broke, don't fix. There's no reason to become a "fundamentalist" in regards to your diet. If you're losing weight, and blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose aren't in a good range, there's no reason to change what you're doing.

My breakfast consists of a glass of water, an apple, a garden salad that takes about 20 minutes to chop up with a 5 calorie per 2 tablespoon organic salsa & a splash of apple cider vinegar as it's dressing. This salad contains two cups of greens, peppers onions, cucumbers, celery, shredded carrots, cherry tomatoes, diced peaches, pickle slices, and chickpeas. It takes about 20 minutes to eat because there is so much to chew. I'm still under 350 calories at that point, then I have a small banana followed by a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries, and as a desert to this breakfast I have a handful of granola made exclusively from nuts & seeds sweetened with a little cinnamon or dark chocolate -thank you Bear Naked for the great choices. This massive meal is less than 1k calories, but represents the bulk of my calories for the day. I usually follow that up with a lunch that includes another apple followed by a bowl of bean chili with some quinoa and a tablespoon of flaxseed mixed in. It tastes great and this is less than 800 calories. Most days that is what I eat. If I am hungry later I may eat a 200 calorie can of vegetable soup for dinner, but I'm not hungry often, & that gets my all of the daily dozen. Less than 2100 calories on a day when I splurge and have the soup for dinner, less than 1900 calories on most days, but it's a ton of food and food that fills you up.

What are your thoughts on insulin resistance and how can going vegan correct this?
The biggest lesson for me was not to gradually increase the volume of vegetables as I did not know that your stomach needs time to become accustomed to processing so much fibre. I made a huge mistake by starting consuming a very high amount of cruciferous veggies at breakfast, lunch, and dinner when I first started. For example, I was eating one can of chickpeas, 400 grams of broccoli, 350 grams of cabbage, 200 grams of green beans, 2 zucchinis, 8 celery stalks, and 8 asparagus at one meal. I was experiencing bloating and gassing all day, and the worst part was that I thought that was normal, so I continued doing it to the point where my stomach was in pain and I could not fall asleep at night.
I would cut that amount of vegetables in half and eat more fruits or more starches (grains, potatoes, beans). Too many vegetables means too little calories

Just curious, in your opinion, do WFPB and "whole foods plant based" sound academic and vague? Why not "whole plant food" or "whole plant vegan"? WFPB to my ear seems to allow almost anything yet "based on" some portion of "whole plants".
@@vegahimsa3057 I think WFPB sounds simplistic enough that it should be easy to determine if what you are eating falls into the category of something that would be healthy. I think eating and "diets" has become so overwhelmingly complicated that people give up and grab something packaged because it easier than looking it up in the diet encyclopedia. Eating healthy needs to be simple so people can follow through.
@@jillianzebris1726 if flexitarian with a nudge toward whole plants is the intended message, then WFPB is perfect. But it's explicitly less specific than simpler "whole plant", assuming (as I do) that no one is pendanticly confused by the source of B12, mushrooms, yeast, etc.

According to everything I’ve heard wfpb nutritionist say....no, your body does not need evoo. I heard (you might investigate) that it’s better to cook with coconut oil because it can tolerate the heat better. However, it’s even better to air fry without oils.
Need some guidance please. Just thinking about making the switch to WFPB. I’m a 5’2” 60 yo 120 lb healthy woman. But, I’ve never been able to get that “slim” physique (and keep it for any length of time). Will this way of eating get me there permanently and fairly painlessly? Thank you!!

I've found that with meals like pasta, lentils and red sauce, or sweet potato and black bean quesadillas that after a large serving I get to the point where I can't eat another bite. [and that says a lot for me!] If you try to fill up with mostly low energy density veggies [salad, broccolli, etc] and not starchy foods you may end up hungry do to lack of calories.
We have stretch receptors in the stomach, nutrient receptors in the brain, and taste receptors in the stomach and mouth. These are the receptors you need to stimulate to induce satiety. Therefore, eat lots of food or eat more often to keep those stretch receptors activated and you feeling full. Make sure you are stimulating the taste receptors for pleasure, ensuring you are getting the five main flavors in: 1) Salty (celery, salt, miso paste, etc), 2) Sweet (fruit, date paste, maple syrup, etc), 3) Sour (any vinegar or citrus), 4) Bitter (smoked paprika, leafy greens, grapefruit, etc.), 5) Umami (miso paste, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc.), and Spicy which is a sensation rather than a flavor (hot sauce, peppers, herbs and spices, etc). Where many people get issues is the fact that they are used to a higher fat-containing diet before switching to a WFPB diet meaning they are suddenly not eating as much fat and stimulating that type of nutrient receptor as much. Also, animal-based products contain identifiable addictive compounds that lead to a true psychological dependence, and oil and sugar are obviously addictive too. For the first month on the WFPB diet, people often do not feel as satisfied as before because they are not feeding their addiction or stimulating their fat receptors as much anymore, but after being consistent for a month (and you should be consistent or else it’s way more difficult), most people’s psychological dependence on those less desirable foods ease up and those healthier foods tend to become more satiating and pleasurable (especially as the gut microbiome changes, but that’s a whole other discussion). That is why you see all these doctors and scientists pushing 28-day or 1-month WFPB challenges. Because afterwards, the person has learned to love the food and be truly satisfied with it and has been able to feel the difference in their energy levels and quality of life and are then so much more likely to make the choice to make it a long-term change.
I struggled with the suddenly lower fat diet myself, but I found that eating a little peanut butter here and there or making creamy dishes out of nuts and seeds to increase my fat intake and continue activating those fat receptors helped a lot to ease into the diet. Personally, I think you should eat to be satisfied for the first month to get used to the diet, then you can worry about lowering the fat intake by reducing those nuts and seeds and avocados as discussed in the video if you really want to lose some weight, or don’t if you’re at a healthy weight.
As for “eating more and more veggies,” I would recommend sticking to dietary recommendations. The Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine has recommended a fourth of the volume of your diet being vegetables, a fourth being fruit, a fourth being grains, and the last fourth being legumes with a small amount of nuts and seeds tossed in there, if any. This is based off of evidence that suggests consuming such foods in such proportions would reduce one’s likelihood for chronic illnesses and nutrient deficiencies. I would recommend a varied diet rather than putting too much of a focus on one food group, especially if it’s vegetables. To piggy back on Shari T’s comment, a diet too high in very-low-calorie-density foods such as non-starchy veggies will just not allow you to be satisfied because you will continue to be hungry.

I have heard that the b12 is actually from dirt. That industrial farm animals are also "fortified" with it, because we no longer have the trace dirt in our diets. What is your take on this info?
I had been vegetarian a long time before I realised I had not purchased meat for a long time. I continued to drink milk and eat cheese. I have always had whole meal granary bread and cook fresh. I don't add sugar or salt except when I make jam from fruit I grow and use 20% sugar to fresh fruit. Some friends suggest they made the most gain by stop eating bread and stop having dairy. They lost weight, a little, where I have managed to increase my weight by a kilogram a year for thirty years. The advise I still get from the doctors etc has been "eat less, exercise more" and then to eat white meat and fish and not red meats, not to drink alcohol and reduce sugar from the diet i.e. no help to me at all. I have tried to remove bread from my diet but the alternatives I have tried leave me very hungry mid morning. I also find advise that we can find conflicting and confusing but the solution is down to the individual - one size does not fit all and what works (to loose weight) for one may not for someone else.

@@CT2507 I can't say for everyone and it's not just vegan, it's whole foods, plants only, no oil. So nothing processed at all. I gave up healing from Lyme and coinfections. I was nearly unable to walk. Switched gears to work on my diabetes and went to the Barnard clinic. The diet inadvertently put my lyme in remission. Not only am I walking, I'm literally climbing mountains and hiking for miles. I'd shout it from the rooftops for any lymie to give it a try if I could.

@@lisajones8730 just wanted to let you know i haven't had meat for 3 days. strictly vegan and only the fat from avocados, no oils. i have had high blood pressure for years. it was between 147 and 170. after just 2 days with no meat and oils it dropped to 129!! am no longer in the high blood pressure group. :) im still dealing with thyroid problems, but i don't get out of breath like before.
4 weeks ago i stopped with alcohol, coffee and sugar. that of course helps too.
i'm simply amazed of what a difference a few days on a vegan diet does to the body.
now i'm building up strength for some serious liver cleansings to flush out the stones. feeling hopeful again. not going back to meat!

We've been eating meat since we crawled out of the trees but we've been getting type 2 for a whole forty years. People are dying from type 2, heart disease and mental illnesses only for the past fifty yeas or so and vegans have the cheek to blame what we've been living on for millions of years. From home cooking SAD to vegan, just remove the animal foods without replacement. Slowly introduce beans, lentils, etc.

I went all in as well and it was a bit overwhelming. It was hard to be with myself for a while🤢. I thought I would have to live alone forever do to the gas😂. It did go away and I eat beans and lentils everyday! 😊

People always think that veganism is a natural diet but it isn't. People have never been natural vegans in the whole of history and couldn't be until the 1960s when they started chemically making B12 tablets for human consumption. Man can't live without it and it wasn't discovered until 1948 so before then when people got sick they would be given liver drinks because doctors knew there was something in it that kept them alive.
So you see, there isn't a living vegan yet. No one has ever been born and died a vegan. It's dangerous. It's insane.

Yep, being vegan is not enough. Oil/fat, sugar, highly processed foods, drugs, alcohol, chemicals, and additives will take you out too. VEGAN-PLUS and SUPER-VEGAN-PLUS seem like wimpy terms for a healthy WFPB diet, but honestly, they are the best new terms I've heard for a while. Also, Lee Crosby, RD is awesome. BTW: For an all-out gas attack, make a meal of Jerusalem artichokes. :)

Being vegan is nothing to do with whether or not you consume oil, junk foods or smoke, it's a philosophy on ending the exploitation of the other animals by humans, nothing more.

Super plus is great but vague. But no less vague for the majority than the academic WFPB term. IMO, we should call it what it is in the simplest terms: "whole plant vegan".
I ate vegan/no grains for 6 months - I gained weight & my blood sugar got more & more uncontrollable. Is there an explanation for that? ( I didn’t eat ‘junk’ vegan foods & no added sugar. )
I would say you messed up by not having grains .

@@AlexMonajemi The meat-industry-funded study you are referring to found that people with a vitamin B-12 deficiency experienced permanent shrinkage of the brain and therefore irreversible brain damage. Unfortunately, because we live at a time that our water and vegetables are so clean and free of dirt and bacteria, vegans may tend to be more susceptible to B12 deficiency, although it is still quite rare. Of course the meat industry would lie and say that veganism causes brain shrinkage when in fact it is a B12 deficiency. Fortunately, you can buy a bottle of B12 tablets for five dollars that will last you a whole year if you are in the United States or use supplemented nutritional yeast much like how omnivorous dieters as well as vegans use table salt supplemented with iodine and milk supplemented with vitamin D to prevent deficiencies.
The funny part is that people think veganism is an “unnatural” diet because vegans may require supplementation with B12 every once in a while because of modern-day living. What about a long-term omnivorous diet that leaves you with a shorter lifespan and chronic illnesses up the whazoo, not to mention the fact that the omnivorous eater may be more likely than the vegan standing next to him to need nutrient supplementation because of the nutrient dense nature of a plant-based diet. Fortunately, the CDC, the USDA, the U.S. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Cochrane database, the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine, and many other of the world’s most renowned nutrition research groups agree that plant-based diet’s are not only adequate for all stages of life including pregnancy, childhood, and old age but are exceptional at decreasing rates of chronic illness.
Speaking of brain health, through mechanisms still being researched but no doubt linked to the inflammatory nature of a meat-containing diet, about a third of people diagnosed with clinical depression who switch to a whole food plant-based diet end up not having depression anymore. Also, a person eating meat is way more likely to have Alzheimer’s later on than a person on a low-inflammatory whole food plant-based diet. If you’re worried about brain health, I’d switch to a plant-based diet if I were you :).

😂You stated you eat N/yeast as part of your b12 consumption, I watched NutritionFacts.org &b12, & learnt from pod cast, that not all Nutritional Yeast has b12, they tested about 6 brands for b12 content, the best brand was Bragg. Watch the vid👍 All the info you will ever need.
Yes, you say That's right. A vegetarian / vegan diet is the best solution to the problem of loss weight. I would say avocado eat well 1 fruit a day. And nuts should be minimized to 5 nuts per day. But excluding meat, bread and sugar to 0 is necessary. These products will help you gain weight.

Byproduct NO it is their food, when honey is taken away, which they worked hard for all summer, it is replaced with sugary chemical slop, so they won’t starve over winter😱

What about processed vegan food.? What do you use for protein .? I have IBS and a lot of vegan diets cause issues
Try a vegan protein supplement. That’s a good way for an alternative
Consult a vegan nutritionist. It's likely IBS is caused by microflora from previous diet. Beans are likely the solution, but the transition may be tricky.

Went healthy whole foods Vegan recently and i love it!! However Im so confused about the oil! I was always under the impression that olive oil was super healthy. Nuts are bad 2?

Oil isn't healthful, but nuts are. Some evidence that if you use any oil, olive is a better choice, but still pure fat high calories high Omega 6 : 3 ratio (harmful). Nuts are healthful but can lead to weight gain for some or prevent loss - basically, if you're struggling with weight, greatly limiting or temporarily eliminating nuts and avocados as well as (whole grain) flours can help because these are a lot more calorie dense than other whole foods. One more note on grains is that, unlike with chickpea flour or bean purees, which retain all the whole-bean benefits, grinding in-tact whole grains into flours affects digestion somewhat detrimentally, especially with regard to the (beneficial) gut microbiome. They get a lot out of farro, rice, oats, quinoa - any in-tact grain - but much less out of the flours.
No processed isolated oil is healthy. But many oils are less healthy than others. The ONLY essential fats for adults are ALA and LA, and you (we all) very likely already eat too much LA. Cold pressed extra virgin olive oil is less unhealthy than cow butter or coconut oil, of course, but none are beneficial (except in impossibly contrived theoretical circumstances). All extracted oils (particularly the "healthy" unsaturated oils) go rancid rapidly. Thus the unprocessed whole plants and nuts are the best source of the few necessary and beneficial fats.
Every study that demonstrates a benefit of say olive oil is based on the reduction of other fat sources. The famous huge PREDIMED studies (sponsored by the Spanish olive industry) gave thousands of participants large quantities of fine olive oil for free. Of course, they used more olive oil, and of course they used less butter and probably less of many fatty foods unreported. // Nuts may be different. It seems that even controlling for total food intake, nuts still demonstrate benefit, including perhaps weight loss. However, the evidence is inconsistent.
