I never heard of him until one day I was out in Abilene, TX with my son who was about 7-years old then. It was morning, a Saturday, the music store just opened and I was there to browse. In walks Chris, and he turned on an amp, plugged in a strat. I was blown away. Minutes later in walked Ted Nugent. I knew and recognized him immediately. Didn’t know they were in town to play. They both signed the back of my T shirt. It has long since faded. Wish I had thought to buy a pick guard and had them sign that instead.
Love Chris to death....but just some of his leads I don't get....maybe just a lot of self expression, don't know. I'd still go see him anywhere tho. Very underrated but super talented guitarists today.
He's reaching, creating on the spot, and, yes, some of the melodies, such as they are, end in cacophonous places, which he realizes, and puts himself down verbally immediately afterwards. But that's who he is; as Steven Tyler says, You have to dare to suck, if you're an artist. Unless you want to play the same old same-o time after time, and there's a place for that, too. He's an amazing musician. From watching this incarnation of the Chris Duarte Group, I gather that they don't practice these songs or even tell each other first; Chris just starts playing. It's up to the others to jump in an hold on. That's jamming to the max, y'all.
@@jimmuncy5636 well said! Chris can take into the deep water, that's for sure. I have realized that some people aren't prepared to go out into those depths. That's what draws me in though, true depth being expressed in it's truest essence.
Grim, I disagree. Perhaps as a casual listener expecting another Born Under a Bad Sign song, yes you are right, some of the said parts are surely not "melodic". Definitely not. However, if you play or have an appreciation for what is going on, you do realise how absolutely mental this is. This is next level skill, no other words needed! (I wish I could stray like this from a 12-bar blues and go on such tangents!)
Oh yeah!! My friends and I used to go see Chris Duarte on a regular basis at Riley's in Wayne, NE in the early 90s! Still got the fire!
