This character is hilarious, instead of being a generic wise mentor or something like that, he is an absolute maniac who screams at his adopted son for screwing up an answer and an entire ep is devoted to him slowly going insane. King Dice, Chalice and Mugman were all cool, but Kettle is by far the funniest character in the show for me.

I like that this show has an identity separate from the game. Like a lot of the characters appear but they don't act exactly like they do in the game and the world is set up differently. It allows the show to have them in funny scenarios and not be restricted by the relatively straight-forward story of the game. I think Elder Kettle is the best example of that because whereas in the game he seems calm, collected and wise, here he's straight-up insane and half the time doesn't know what he's doing any more than the brothers.
I think the creators said that it was like an "au" thing, so yeah, it's pretty neat

Honestly, when I first heard Elder Kettle's voice I thought it was super unfitting, but it quickly began to grow on me, and now I just think it makes him even funnier XD
The only thing that bothered me is that he isn't a brownish color like in the game.

I think my personal favorite bit is just how irritated he was at Cuphead not knowing 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'. He didn't even seem to care about the fact that he was a contestant on his favorite gameshow.
As much as I love Elder Kettle, I can’t stop wondering where the heck Cuphead and Mugman’s mom and dad are in all this. Did Elder Kettle adopt them? Is he their grand-kettle? How did he end up raising them?

I think he's either related to the family or at the very least knows their parents. Perhaps something happened to their parents, there is a theory that the Legendary Chalice is their mother. My theory is that their parents disappeared either intentionally or due to unknown circumstances and they asked EK to take care of Cuphead and Mugman should anything happen to them. It's possible we'll learn what happened in the cartoon since the cartoon seems to be focusing on expanding the overall lore and universe of Cuphead.
Hopefully next season shows what happened
In the Italian adaptament he's called "Nonno Bricco" and that's literally means "Grandpa Jug", he even calls Cuphead and Mugman "grandchildren" So I guess it's their grandfather

Was watching the show with a few friends. Eventually pretty much everyone left and just two of us remained. Was fun considering I'm the "hehe look at funny cartoon" person and he's the guy who tried to analyze capitalism in cuphead. Not even sure if it's satire. Eventually he brought up the idea of Kettle being an abusive guardian. And i think he was being serious too, mentioned it at least a few times. Does make sense to an extent. Tho I think I will continue defending the funny cartoon man. It's all in the name of comedy after all, this isn't really a show with serious themes for now.
