David Gillen was the monster that raped the elderly lady in Carlisle and was jailed for 12 years. Unfortunately, the murder of Melanie Hall is sadly unsolved.

That's mainly because of the quality of the recording, not the actual broadcast. There are videos from the 1970s that have a clearer picture than this.
@@racheldoesacrylic4089 Not as simple as that i'm afraid. The original reconstruction didn't show Melanie behaving entirely, shall we say, as a paragon of virtue. Of course this in no way gives anyone the right to murder her, but her boyfriend ( who was German if memory serves me correctly ) came across as being the more decent person. This episode chose to change both character portrayals presumably for the sake of Melanie's relatives.
@@racheldoesacrylic4089 Melanie's boyfriend apparently saw her dancing with another guy at the club which she shouldn't have been doing when she had already had a boyfriend. He apparently decided to leave most likely because he was bothered by what he saw. Still, what happened to Melanie was sad and tragic and the creep who did this needs to be caught and dealt with accordingly..
The programme goes behind the scenes with detectives hunting the killer of Melanie Hall, whose remains were recently found by the M5. Plus appeals on the sexual assault of an elderly woman, and the gang of robbers who held up a mother and her four-year-old child in their own home. 9pm Wednesday 28th October 2009.
Melanie Hall possibly picked up by suspected minii cab, keys possibly to do with car for sale or sold recently its usually the only time all keys would be on the same key ring.
@@rutter1ify Agree those keys look they are from a brand new car at the time, i'm sure you only get tags on them like that when they are new, plus the red key. Intriguing, possibly a hire car? The solved rapist story. The Exeter Friendly shirt was an error which wasted a lot of man hours. The CCTV was not conclusive but detectives wrongly believed the shirt being worn was a football one. Wrong.
52:35 the gentlemen is smart at investigating crimes because he was involved in Ingram case when they cheated on Who Wants To Be A Millonaire back in 2001.
Crimewatch gradually ‘transitioned’ from being an honest and albeit earnest attempt to help police fight crime (with mixed results) to being a sensationalised ‘show’. The BBC described it as ‘a revamp’. The reconstructions were awful, made worse by the wholly inappropriate and unnecessary music overdubs. Kirsty Young referring on occasion to a studio full of ‘coppers’, constantly stating the obvious, her angry and accusatory stance was, at the very least, irritating. The cocky, arrogant Rav ‘the Chav’ Wilding further detracted from the programme’s original, serious remit with his commentaries full of stupid puns and lame attempts at ‘humour’. His post CCTV footage demand, “names, please,” was both tedious and predictable. Matthew Amroliwala brought nothing significant to CW. He often seemed unsure of what he was saying, with occasional pausing and grinning while staring dreamily at Kirsty Young or indeed, any female. Alternatively, he almost seemed at times to positively relish the often horrific cases he ‘dealt with’. The overall tone became ever more patronising especially with the over-emphasised ‘pleas’ to “do the right thing,” “pick up the phone,” etc.
In the first case although it is still really upsetting what happened to Melanie it is still no excuse for her boyfriend to leave her in the nightclub without telling her or anybody else as if he had stayed in with her in the nightclub at all times as expected then at least that way she would still be alive and well to this day
