I think 9’ is the ticket because when the line gets wrapped around the tip of the rod, you can reach it to unwrap it. And it casts a mile. And it’s light weight. And you get a little better leverage too. 9’ seems to be a really nice balance. You could go 10’ or 10’6” if you want but consider those point I made. I like the daiwa north coast medium weight. Also consider the okuma hawiian custom 9’ it bends really nicely that helps keep the perch pinned and absorbs the powerful head shakes of striped bass
By the way, for TX RIG Swimbaits - I use a MEDIUM HEAVY Rod. It’s stiffer. It’s more sensitive. It saves me a ton of evergy. I don’t like the mushy rod tip when I fish swimbaits I want my rod to feel kinda like a broomstick, very stiff. I use the north coast medium heavy for swimbaits.
Pair it with a 4000 series reel like a daiwa fuego 4000 or better yet the daiwa ballistic MQ 4000 or I also really like the shimano vanford 5000 it is compact and lightweight as well.
Get 30# braid - any brand will do. Power pro super slick 8 is a great choice

That’s so cool, so you never got into fishing before, but it’s always been in your back yard, and then one day you saw my fishing video and started fishing? That’s rad man! Have fun out there, good luck! 👽🎣🐟🌮
