- Many people hear the words ‘compression socks‘ and immediately think, ‘I’m too young for those!’ What they don’t realize is, no matter your age or activity level, compression socks can provide immense benefits to many people. To understand how compression socks can help you, it is important to know how circulation affects your legs.
Your heart constantly pumps blood through your arteries. These vessels act like a hose, carrying blood at high pressure to your entire body and providing cells with oxygen and other necessities.
This, of course, includes the arteries and vessels in your legs, as well. Unfortunately, getting blood, lymph and other fluids out of your lower limbs is a bit more difficult.
Your veins and lymphatic system are not pressurized, meaning they have to work against gravity to move fluid back up your legs. Your calf and leg muscle usually do this, but they don’t always work efficiently enough to prevent blood from pooling in the feet, causing that dreaded ‘heavy leg’ feeling.
Compression socks assist in circulation by helping push blood and fluids out of your legs. They create a ‘pressure gradient’ by fitting snugly around the ankle and tapering off in pressure towards the top of the sock. This creates better venous pressure, and prevents swelling and increased fatigue after a long day of work or activity.
If any of these following situations sound familiar to you, compression socks could help you greatly!
1. You sit all day at work
Some refer to the calf muscle as the second heart. This is because the calf acts as a steady pump during movement and pressurizes veins in the lower leg, allowing blood to flow back to your heart. If you sit at a desk all day, these muscles are doing very little and can cause blood to pool in the lower legs.
2. You stand for long periods of time
Walking encourages more blood flow by using the calf as a muscle pump for your veins, but standing in one position will greatly reduce the effectiveness of this system. This is why trades workers, retail employees, and hospitality staff are all great candidates for using compression socks! Your legs will feel less fatigued and have more energy when your shift is done.
3. You exercise
Realistically, wearing compression socks probably isn’t going to shave minutes off your half marathon time or get you to squat that extra 20 pounds. What compression can help with is post-exercise recovery and reducing soreness. Studies have demonstrated that wearing compression socks during exercise and recovery can lessen muscle soreness in the legs.
4. You travel
Remember earlier when we explained how sitting for long hours can cause blood to pool in your legs?
Travelling far distances on an airplane can have the same effect. Prolonged sitting while flying increases your risk of developing deep vein thrombosis - or blood clots. Using compression therapy is a great tool to prevent this. As well, it will help keep your legs feeling fresh when you finally arrive at your destination!
5. You like cool socks!
From business casual to fashionable or athletic, both medical and off-the-shelf socks come in a variety of materials and styles. Whether you need something sharp for work or enjoy the ‘athleisure’ aesthetic, compression socks will look as good as they feel!

I’m on feet all day at work in work boots and I just got 2 pairs. My feet and legs hurt all day but I still walk after work, about 6.2KM and I’m so tired of tired legs! Family is predisposed to varicose veins I’m starting these at 31 hoping I can keep nice legs well into my 60’s!
And for varicose vein peeps like me!
Just ordered some basic black toeless compression socks. My insurance was billed $105 for one pair of socks! Who knew socks could be so pricey? I don't even wanna know how much the fancy argyle socks cost if basic black was over $100. Yikes!
You got ripped off, sorry. MOJO brand is one of the best & reasonable. I have pairs that have lasted ten years, I rotate them. Good luck, they work.Buy one pair at a time till you have the proper fit..

Is there anything sheer for when you’re wearing shorter pants
This was a commercial for compression soocks manufacturers.
So what...they work. Most people have never tried them & could benefit by using them, any age group.
Are they supposed to be right under knee ? I feel like they are cutting off my circulation. ?
You should look into thigh high socks instead
K Armstrong thank u
If you feel like they are cutting of your circulation you should try a loser sock
Then sizing is wrong. They are snug to firm.
Where to buy green e sock
OTC/Amazon compression socks are nearly worthless for medical needs. They are a fun fad for the average person and come in all colors at about the same price as any other socks. Knee high socks are great in the winter!
Medical need is completely different. If your feet and legs are swelling due to disease or medications, you need to be fitted for real orthopedic compression socks at around $100 per pair. These are made to fit your feet and legs, will target the areas you need and will be very difficult to get on. If you can easily slip on a pair then they are not tight enough to be doing you any good.
So no matter what you do....... Wear compression socks. 😊
Sorry is it for information or music
I tried wearing compression socks yesterday and they left my feet and ankles with red rashes that now, two days later, are only begining to fade.
Is used for kidney swelling patient...
Not sure if you meant this as a question or a statement. I apologize that I am just now seeing this As I just clicked to watch the video for the first time today. Off you intended that as a question the answer is yes. My ex husband (God rest his soul) had kidney failure and wore them.
This can be work to calf to reduce size?
I suffer from edema in my lower legs, I have one calf that is nearly double the size of the other. I work on my feet for about 9 hours a day. I can tell you that I can tell the difference between when I do wear them and when I don’t. I’m working to reduce the size of my left calf to be more proportionate and wearing the compression socks it is slowly helping along with exercise
As a hairstylist who regularly stands 10+ hours a day, these are life savers. They helped me with recovery from both ankle fractures, and torn achilles. They remove the build up of lactic acid & fluid build up.Your legs will feel 10 years younger, too!
And i noticed inside my thigh a varicose vein😩
Start taking copper. 4 mg. a day. Takes about 6 months for them to shrink. ua-cam.com/video/AhTChWQgVFc/v-deo.html
Charles Coker I Appreciate That☀️🥰
You said 5 reason. You only stated 2. Would compression socks help with math?
Does it help people with swollen legs due to diabetes?
Hello, yes our generic compression socks do help people with swollen legs due to diabetes. If it is more severe you will need a doctors referral for our higher grade medical compression socks. You can find out more information at www.kintec.net/blog/5-reasons-why-you-need-compression-socks/
I know this is a year old comment, and you already got a reply, but I'd like to note that compression socks actually originated in part for people with diabetes! Depending on severity you may need to consult your doctor, but getting a good pair is pretty much guaranteed to help at least a little bit, considering that's literally what they were made for in the first place. :)
YES
I know compression socks is worth it for me so I don’t have to take anti-inflammatory drugs for the rest of my life because of a surgery.
Anything compressing on my legs makes me dizzy and lightheaded
May not be good for people with diabetes., or pre diabetes. It cuts off the circulation to the feet.
It shouldn't if you get the correct size
What if they are to tight ?
Gabos Podcast the
research what compression to wear and overall don't go higher then 15-20 mmHg unless a doctor says otherwise
