This track is still so emotional, even after all this time. I can't really describe the kind of feeling I get when I play Risk of Rain 2. Tracks like this really bring to life the feeling of a desperate struggle. Fighting, clawing, just for an inch to forge a path in this unforgiving hellscape of a planet. This is the track that made me fall in love with this game. It's been a hell of a ride honestly. And the new stuff that was added today, man... This game is a masterpiece. Thank you Chris. Risk of Rain really wouldn't be the same without you.
I think this song just fits Risk of Rain as a whole beautifully. The way there's almost always something going on, the way that the action never stops, and how it blends so wonderfully together just works so well for the theme of the game.
I remember an interview where you said that 'The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky' is the first song you composed for Risk of Rain 2 while having any idea of what stage it's being composed for. While you can definitely hear it in that song, and just how well it fits the thematic and atmosphere of Siren's Call-- there's something to be said about how well 'Into the Doldrums' combines with Rallypoint Delta. The song doesn't necessarily scream 'ice level', but it still meshes fantastically with the stage's tone. With the album commentary for Risk of Rain (2013), you also said that Coalesence was written without the intention of being 'this is the final stage song'. Chris, are you sure you or your music aren't just psychic?
Pretty sure he said the menu theme was the first in his commentary Edit: this comment was written at 2am, I barely read the original comment at all (I'm a dumbass)
I really love the name, into the doldrums. It perfectly encapsulates not only the song, but the journey of the survivor. The doldrums is a region in the Atlantic with calm waters, sudden storms, and everything in between. It also means stagnation, or depression. I interpret this as sitting in the eye of the storm, lying stagnant in an endless ocean, surrounded by chaos and destruction, and all you can do is cry out. However, we are not there yet, we are heading Into the doldrums. What lies ahead on the ocean, on this planet, is uncertainty, danger, and most likely death. We are afraid, and we scream in fear and agony, but we have to go there. We have no other choice but to go Into the Doldrums.
it doesn't matter how many runs I do, I get excited every time rallypoint delta shows up because that means I can listen to this song again for another 5-10 minutes
This song feels almost like a dark reflection of Coalescence. Which not only fits the scene of Rallypoint Delta fucking perfectly, as many have already pointed out, but, it being used for the Gilded Coast also, feels *incredibly* appropriate. Both in how well the song feels like it fits the atmosphere of the environment, and the thematic parallel between the remnants left by those who remained trapped on the planet, and the place where The Guardian has remained imprisoned for far longer.
Listening to your music has taught me a lot about creating tone in my music, as well as how to utilise time signatures and poly-rhythms to create a more organic feeling in my pieces. I'm an amateur composer as a hobby, and your albums just have so many juicy little details that I always love listening to them. Thank you.
I swear, this song just doesn't get enough credit for how...spectacular it is. I wish i had a better word to describe it. Magnificent, divine, transcending, ethereal, whatever, none of them come close.
The only way I could describe the guitar solo at 3:30 is orgasmic. It sends such a primordial feeling, something that can't be described, and it's one of only a few songs that have felt this way too me. Amazing work, as always.
It's less refined, and more primal. The howling of an animal, screaming in all languages "I will survive". It's the sound of an electric ukulele, not being used to play for an audience, but as a weapon against an oncoming tide of death. It's the sound of life, and not the happy kind.
I legit can't listen to this song without crying at the guitar from that timestamp and so on. It has so much feeling, so much soul, it screams so hard and it takes my breath away. Absolutely beautifully cathartic. It makes me so passionate about doing music
This is undoubtedly one of my favorite tracks in this game, I absolutely love the mood it sets for the barren place of rally point Delta, given that when you get there, there's evidence of there having been people, but there's not a trace of anyone left.
Sometimes I take more time on Rally Point Delta just so I can hear the whole song. I typically have a better run when I get Scorched Achers because I actually go fast lol.
Chris I absolutely love the way your music just builds in the most subtle and yet groovy way, and then just EXPLODES in this eruption of excellence before you even realize that the song had gotten you to the point where it would land so well. I listen to your music for RoR 1&2 and Deadbolt SO much. Definitely my favorite composer. Thank you for your work.
NOTHING can explain how much i love the guitar that kicks in at 4:00 . it is just filled with so much emotion and i cannot put into words just how amazing it makes me feel. NEVER STOP COMPOSING CHRIS! your work is amazing and i wish to be able to create powerful music with so much feeling and emotion into it as much as yours does.
You know, Gilded Coast is an odd stage for me. Ive been there countless times to claim my Halcyon Seed. But i also think its such a beautiful stage, and that beauty is only elevated by this also beautiful but mysteriously melancholic track. It reminds me of snow falling (Rallypoint Delta moment), and evokes a sense of yearning for something - to travel, to discover, to leave everything and everybody and just go and never come back. The gilded coast being in the middle of the ocean gives me exactly that feeling. The starry night is truly gorgeous; the rings, both on the island and in the distance make for an amazing scenery. The atmosphere is so nostalgic, somehow, and it makes me want to build a boat and sail across the infinite ocean, calm, reflecting all of the colorful stars, with gentle ripples making them vibrate, like a hopeless dream, in the night that never ends. I cant say ive ever felt the same for any other track or videogame stage before.
Besides if you enter the water you only see how deep the ocean truly is. I have thalassophobia, but i feel a sense of peace and excitement by seeing such depth, for some reason. It is scary, but thinking about the journey to new unknown places through such alien- gorgeous- massive seas makes up for the fear completely. I even explored the stage a bit better with noclip on! Feels amazing
The amount of times your guitar solos send me to another plane of existence in this whole soundtrack is astounding. Never stop making such amazing music.
@@AstronautDown Into the doldrums is such an iconic track from this game's days in early access, it was in the teaser trailer and it's prominently used in Rallypoint Delta and Gilded Coast. I have no idea how anybody COULD dislike this.

this track is so especial, it captures really well the feel of progress in the run of each player, because I always get to this stage and this track, when my survivor is just getting his items, and thinking "almost there, should I gather... this kind of items?" overall how the player is preparing for the endgame.
The drums are so crazy and flawless 🔥🔥🔥 this is definitely my favorite one, you deserve more credit man, amazing flawless work, it's a shame people who compose amazing things like this don't get the credit and notice they deserve, you deserve it all!

This song takes me back to when my friends first showed me this game, the late nights of discovering the secrets while we mimic and sing this tune together. Playing single player and realizing how beautifully made it is and the sort of sense of dread it gives (to me) as if I was the only survivor left and the music only amplifies this. Thank you for these kickass tracks!
An unexpected but fitting track for an ice level. The synths glide so peacefully behind the icy lead and rattling percussion. Snowy winds between shaking trees and glistening permafrost. This would sound great over some figure skaters performing.
2024 and still coming back for this on youtube and spotify , i love all of risk of rain sountracks but this one is my absolute favorite . this was the soundtrack i heard a while ago and found myself pulling my cc to buy the game XD

god i cant even begin how much i love this song, 100% one of my favorites. its amazing not just video game music wise, just all music in general, extremely re-playable and the entire song is just easy to get invested in! I love your work and i hope you do well in future music endeavors!
I tracked this song from the first time I heard it in the Gearbox EA trailer, I would listen to it over and over again in every single possible version, because it just hits every emotion in my body that fucking hard. The way it just flows, and a bunch of other musical jargon I don't understand but I know you do it and you do it so well. Back then, I always still loved the trailer version of it the most, it had that sound to it I liked, and I'm happy to see it's back in action. This to me will be the Risk of Rain 2 song that shows just how fucking awesome you make this game. Thank you for all the work you do.
Don't know if you'll see this Chris, but I'm genuinely curious about how you come up with your music. It's an absolute masterpiece, and I can see the love and passion you put into it. I just wanna understand how you think of these tracks, because I can't even imagine coming up with pieces like this. Love the music man, looking forward to more
I don't think I can go into it in a comment... How music (and I guess all art) is made is at the same time almost unexplainable and extremely simple. The best way to describe it is that it's the accumulation of knowledge and practice. This is something anyone can learn, it's not magic. Every time I sit to write I come up with something because that's what I'm trained to do. But the little decisions that go into it and make my music different than someone else's are often inexplicable even to the creator, and, I suspect, come from that thing that some people call talent, others soul, others mind (as opposed to brain, which is the pure craft part). The latter is my preferred terminology. I could talk about the craft for days and weeks and months, but I could not explain how I do it because not even I fully understand.
Chris you probably will never read this, but your music is awesome! I can't start my day until i've listened to this or "The Rain Formely Known as Purple" or "A Glacier That Eventually Farts". You inspired me to grab my guitar again. Thank you!!
I absolutely love this theme, really makes it feel like your living in a strange dimension. I know it's used in Rally Point Delta but it matches Aurelionite's Pocket Dimension more. Being locked away in a strange water and gold filled floating island realm with no way out. Rather sad he was trapped here but at least the Lemurians worshiped him and made him feel of value. Hopoo giving him the ability to help out in the final phase against Mithrix is a life saver for certain characters where you'd have to approach a powerful item heavy boss.
I just can't get enough of your music, I truly can't, there's something so strong and deep about the feelings and kinds of sounds that this soundtrack has that really clicks with my heart, I hear them when I shower, while playing other games, even while I sleep. This feeling of frustration, desperation and depression mixed with those mysterious and unknow sounds really make wanna close my eyes and imagine I'm in another world totally different than ours and completely merciless. It really helps hearing this and somehow seeing my anguish fade away for a few moments and seeing this spark of greatness inside me that can be achieved.(Btw I've only played the first RoR so far but your music really seted my mind on buying it as soon as I can)
I never played Risk of Rain until only a few weeks ago when I picked them up as a bundle for Steam Summer Sale, and let me say I am absolutely HOOKED. Rallypoint Delta is probably my favorite stage in the game because of this BGM. I remember mentioning it to my friends I was playing it with that I was really impressed by the soundtrack of the game in general, but I really do think this is a standout even among standouts. Great work, very much looking forward to your future tracks!
Finally got around to playing the second game. I didn't think I could enjoy this song more than I already do until I got to listen to it while kicking ass in the snow. So damn good!!!!
A fantastic touch up from the Early Access version. Used to be my number one favorite before The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky came out, but still an excellent track.
Even after all this time, Rally-point Delta remains my favorite stage, thanks in large part to the music. It's just such a perfect fit, and easily one of my favorite tracks in the game
Chris, i went a whole day begore i knew Risk of Rain 2 was out for early access. I basically cried listening to this song, and when i saw the magma worm, i cried. I’m pretty sure i rewound to watch that exact moment when it climbs into the sky and comes barreling toward the camera, then there’s the Clay Dinestrider explosion, and then the mercenary went at the Elder Lemurian. That’s how i knew Risk of Rain was back, only your tunes could have made that moment so special. Thank you for enriching my life for the past 4 years, i only wish i had discovered risk of rain sooner.
Holy shit dude, you somehow took the feeling of psychedelic space exploration and condensed it into a kick ass emotional song. I feel like I should be off my ass on shrooms in the 70's at Woodstock listening to this. Physically gave me the stank face when I was playing the game. I've never had an OST do that to me.
This song has just stuck with me since playing RoR2 for the first time in 2019. To call it stunning seems like an understatement. It's one of the most hard-hitting videogame songs for me, like, ever, and it will very likely stay like that the rest of my life. The whole atmosphere it builds up in symbiosis with the cold, frosty temperature... It makes me feel hopeless, but in a beautiful way. I stopped playing RoR2 in 2020 or around that time and started again from scratch just a week prior to writing this comment. And this song... It's by far what stuck with me the most. And I think the game in itself is fucking brilliant. So for this song to be what stuck with me those few years... it just shows how hard it hit me. Whenever I think of Risk of Rain, the first thing that comes to mind is that snowy level (don't remember the name) and the song attatched to it.
This song brings back memories of being stuck on Gilded Coast cause the director was bugged while my friend playing MUL-T accidentally figures out how to dupe strike drones and damage themselves with them simpler times really
Risk of Rains atmosphere would be lost without this music. This soundtrack really sells that you are on another world. If I could describe this whole thing in one phrase it would be "organized chaos"

It really helps hearing this and somehow seeing my anguish fade away for a few moments and seeing this spark of greatness inside me that can be achieved.(Btw I've only played the first RoR so far but your music really seted my mind on buying it as soon as I can)
I keep coming back to this track whenever I give the album a listen. It's perfect in every way.
Chilly weather and cold nights approach. This is gonna be my night time theme, always.
Every time I hear this song I get cold from chills so I'd say it fits the stage quite well.
Proven that listening to this once per day makes you live longer.
No, now there's just lava worms outside my house.
I don't know how they got there, and less importantly, how they are real. But I am scared
@@talisinium.channel You stocked up on Ukeleles, right?

HELP IT DIDN'T WORK THERE IS IMPS IN MY HOUSE
I always enjoyed this stage, along with the music god its so HEAVENLY to me
Woah holy shit, those guitar sections are way more defined now
I never played Risk of Rain until only a few weeks ago when I picked them up as a bundle for Steam Summer Sale, and let me say I am absolutely HOOKED. Rallypoint Delta is probably my favorite stage in the game because of this BGM. I remember mentioning it to my friends I was playing it with that I was really impressed by the soundtrack of the game in general, but I really do think this is a standout even among standouts. Great work, very much looking forward to your future tracks!
thank you for your service ... what else can i say.. this will go down in the best OSTs ever...
I like how desperate and dangerous this song sounds, like you've just entered a deathtrap and need to leave as quickly as possible
I still think this is the track that got the most change, and lemme tell you that change was absolute ear candy.
This is one of my favorite songs ever
Finally got around to playing the second game. I didn't think I could enjoy this song more than I already do until I got to listen to it while kicking ass in the snow. So damn good!!!!
A fantastic touch up from the Early Access version. Used to be my number one favorite before The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky came out, but still an excellent track.
I agree, once raindrop dropped [ get it :^) ] , this song took second place.
Chris you're such a legend
Glided coast goes hard with this theme after you kill Aurelionite and just admire the background of the map.
Always loved how even tho one's a synth, the solo sounds like two guitarists tryna 1-up each other 👍👍
This track is absolute fire.
This is one of my favorite tracks.
I love this song, I always get reminded by the song In The Rain by The Dramatics.
Getting goosebumps every other time when listening from 3:28 to the end.
Really good stuff man !
Thank you!
One of the best tracks from the best map
so sick man so sick
I can't get this song out of my head in the best possible way.
this is a legendary sound track wtffffffff
This song brings back memories of being stuck on Gilded Coast cause the director was bugged while my friend playing MUL-T accidentally figures out how to dupe strike drones and damage themselves with them
simpler times really
I dont know what it is about this... it just feels like you're diving in an ocean trench deep beneath the surface, which is just freaking awesome.
You have been... Sequenced.
💀You have shattered into innumerable pieces. 💀
The sound of getting murdered by the starting enemies and absolutely destroying the boss
@3:30 is so emotional.. so intense... so perfect... it gives me goosebumps always I listen to..
The drums in this song are absolutely wack, I love how incredibly polymetric you managed to make a song in 7/4
Thanks! I do love this track, was a pleasure writing those drums!
one of the best tracks and levels in the game
Chris can somehow make an album with one instrument
Sure, if that instrument is a piano.
Chris can make an album with one note
love that solo ...really i was searching for this song
Risk of Rains atmosphere would be lost without this music. This soundtrack really sells that you are on another world. If I could describe this whole thing in one phrase it would be "organized chaos"
Me sloshed out of my mf mind: "PUT ON THE RISK OF RAIN TRACK BRO, I WANNA FEEL SHIT FRFR!"
I play this on my way to work i have the whole soundtrack its sound so amazing in a car with a stereo system
Literally one of the best soundtracks in existence.
Did you know? You cannot activate the Teleporter Event on Rallypoint Delta before this loops at least once!
emotional...
Love this song alongside Antarctic Oscillation and The rain previously known as purple. Love em all, but these are the ones that stand out to me
How is it possible for this track to make me feel cold while in the middle of summer
I dont think ill ever get tited of this music. No matter how much i hear it i cant stop loving every second of it. I dont even glance at the other stages in newts shop its always this one i choose entirely because the music is so damn good
