Well I know Paul Newman raced here in the UK at 'Silver Stone' but even if this was a 'real' Bob Sharp car it doesn't mean that this car would have come over here as well. I agree with you it would be strange for someone to build a replica of a little known car. A very nice car and it will be interesting to find more information though as we all know not everything is on the internet and not everything on the internet can be trusted! A great find nonetheless Steve well done for obtaining it. I will look forward to seeing more on this one. 👍👍
@ 👌🏻 keep at it mate. I know your pain. The truth is out there, but man it can be hard to find with old race cars. I have two myself from the early 70’s in Australia. Extremely hard to find information. Cannot wait to see this car recommissioned.
Looking at that nose piece, it doesn't line up particularly well with the doorline, which does make it seem like it had a bump and was only partially straightened before that piece was fitted perhaps?
Oh heck, that's my region, FLR SCCA. I've seen these cars race at Watkins Glen a bunch of times but don't know the difference between them or have personal insights into the cars, especially because there were more than a few of them over the years. Hit up either the Glen Region or the Finger Lakes Region SCCA club historians, surely they have details and there is probably a ton of archival stuff at the racing museum in Watkins Glen. There's a photo from Mid-Ohio with his name on it in the 33 car with "MACEDON COLLISION" on the window where Geneva Coach was on yours, Macedon Collision is just a few miles towards Rochester from Geneva and also active in sponsorships for quite a while in the area. Car looks similar, with similar telltales (gauges etc). But I don't know how many of these they created for people, more than four, apparently. I think the guy that owns Sharpsight Racing is literally Dr. Robins of the Robins Eye fame, a local laser eye surgery doctor who has a string of eye doctor offices in the area, I think he's actually lives in Hornell, NY which is not that far from Watkins Glen. I'm pretty sure he's still around/alive? but I'll bet he's in his 60s if he is, or even older. He's not in our local MG Car Club otherwise I would have a direct line of communications to him. (hence the name, sharp sight...) But do hit up the historians of the local clubs, and shoot Dr. Robbins an email for more info. Also, seems like there's a bunch of stuff on Facebook about the teams too. HRG (Historical Racing Group) has a page dedicated to Russell Cappa, who was probably the guy with the 510, right? Also a Rochester area guy. Hit the HRG up via their contact page too, might be good info from them. Of course, that transponder code will tell a bunch about the car as well, right?
I emailed secretary (and past president and about a million other roles) of the FLR SCCA Mike Toombs about this, he's been around a while and might be able to give you some insights.
@@ThisWeekWithCars They also produced a newsletter for decades called Top End that should have photos, a search of the names should find those as PDFs, I would think. They find my father's name in a bunch of old editions.
Far-out and funky. Lookin' forward to hearing you drive this in anger. Never heard NACA (knacka) ducts pronounced knocka ducts but I guess it's a mid-west thing. Neato.
Looks like the genuine article, but I have no idea who Bob Sharp is , or why someone would want to spend so much money to build a replica. Love your videos.
You can't guarantee a number you may have to change your number between races if someone else is using that number or you compete in a different region. Anything with 33, 38, 83, and 88 on a Datsun are probably a car that is running Bob Sharp Livery. 33 was usually Bob Sharps number, and 38 was Jim Fitzgeralds so if another Datsun ran with them they would have to choose another number like 83.
Can't wait to see this re-commissioned. It's a totally cool car.
I spent my summers at Lime Rock Park watching these cars race. I got to see paul newman and Tom Cruise also.
Great forensic project! Definitely will be interested to see what history is uncovered... plus getting the thing running, of course!
Beautiful Car Steve , Let's hear it run !!!!!
Looks like a really interesting car and I'm sure it will sound epic when you fire it up. Can't wait!

What a find! Hope to see more on this one!
Check the rollbar stamping for the SCCA numbers. That will tell you everything.
I looked for it couldn't find one. I hope the logbook is found some day.

Thanks Steve. What a grest car.
I am no expert, but it seems to be very genuine from what you showed to us!
Love this car. Hope to get my Z back on the road someday.
Cool tour
Awesome car, good luck with your research and can't wait to see it up and running.
What a find!
Oh my ❣️
I hope it sees The Glen again
What a cool car, im looking forward to seeing you getting it running
Reach out to Adam Carolla (the comedian). He owns bunch of the Newman/Bob Sharp racecars, including at least 1 510. He may have info on your car.
Let's start it!
such a fun thing to research (and drive)!

I would love to see that picture. Macedon Collision is the shop of Jeff Beckenbach who I think raced this car.

great stuff thanks, cool car
This thing is sick!!

I have not been a big SCCA fan but when Paul Newman raced with paint similar scheme livery. It was seen everywhere on advertising.
Steve no nothing about this car . But l do know , it's one hellofva car . It must of cost hundreds of thousands to develop to this stage ....❤❤

Are you going to race it?
Your car seems to have the number 83 on the front but the ones in the photo seem to be 38 !!…?????
